Lolita. Not into cosplay

Old school. I've built a capsule wardrobe of brand with very little money and a lot of effort tracking mercari ~.~ . I love old pieces and any grandma chouch-worthy look. I like simple coords featuring beautiful cuts and fabrics. (try to stay away from hoarding)
>Other hobbies and interests?
I love drawing, cooking, learning about nutrition and health, creating and going on deep internet trips. I'm currently learning how to sew.
>What are you looking for?
Friends to have a nice time with and talk about lolita, build coords, track down lolita blogs on the wayback machine, hunt for deals.

watch her other vlogs.
old schoolers didn't just hang out on the streets. they went to themed cafes/restaurants, shopped for clothes/accessories...this has always been a fashion about indulging and spending money as if we're royalty.
Wish I had it saved on this PC but there's an older spread called something like a day in the life of a lolita, and it shows a lady waking up early in the morning to get ready, take the train to the city, meet up with friends and sit about for a bit, then go eat at one cafe, then go shopping, then eat at another cafe, then get drinks, then they go clubing. she gets home at like 1am, puts on her lifestyler kawaii nightwear, then starts at her sewing machine to finish pieces for the next day's coord. I remember thinking, damn that's not a lot of sleep lol
It's nice to see what Misako enjoys and indulges in with her mom on this little getaway. I like to enjoy and buy things already, so it's not like Misako is planting major advertising brain worms. it's just coffee and gelato and green tea. she's not telling me what panty liners to buy lol. these goods are relevant to my interests because I personally dress up to go out and treat myself to good food and drinks.

>tfw thin, barely 21 and have cellulite
>gf is chubby, mid-20s and no cellulite

Life isn't fair.

On-topic feel:
>legit think I'm becoming a bit of a hoarder
>only wear lolita a couple of times a week, don't even post coord shots for the efame points any more because there's no blank wall for photos in my apartment
>still buying new stuff (mostly casual/nonprint to fit my lifestyle now), bought 50 dress/bag/shoes/blouse and 45 smaller accessories since July
>really want to cut down and get rid of stuff I don't love or feel good wearing any more but it's so much hassle
>normie clothes are easy because I only have to make a quick decision to give to charity, but sales posts take forever to make and longer to sell
>longer stuff sits and the more I have to reduce it the more tempted I am to just keep the item, even if it fits awkwardly and I haven't worn it in two years
>justify keeping things I never wear by telling myself it's a waste not to get a nice coord shot in it before I sell it, since I'll lose money on the sale anyway
>never actually have the get the motivation to wear those old items because my style's changed, so they just sit there making me feel guilty
It took me over six hours to photograph, edit, measure, weigh, research and write up sales posts for only a dozen items last week, and I still have at least twenty more things I want to get rid of. Send help. Most of my small local comm don't wear my style or size and we rarely get new blood so I only sold two things at the last swap meet, and online sales are really wearing me down.

I keep thinking about how much I'm investing in lolita. I always try to justify the amount I'm spending to friends and family by saying that, unlike fast fashion, it has resale value. It's kind of true, but it's disingenuous since I buy to keep and have no intention of quitting until my late 30s (unless I have kids or go into a field where even toned-down classic could affect my career prospects), by which point my stuff might not be worth anything.

Essentially I'm committing to spending several thousand a year on clothes for the next 15+ years, which doesn't seem like such a responsible decision. If I was constantly swapping in and out new popular pieces I'd worry less about my wardrobe losing value, but I'm trying to build towards only owning wishlist/dream items. Since I got rid of most of my filler pieces and got more rare stuff I never want to let go of anything, even when money is tight.

Having to plan my entire life around my clothes is making me anxious. Before I got into lolita I didn't mind living in the sort of area where it's not safe to wear anything you can't run away in, but now I pay a premium to live in a large apartment in the good part of town. I can't spontaneously move cross-country or abroad because it'd be too hard to move my wardrobe (I don't have a car so even putting stuff into storage is extremely difficult), and I'm extremely fearful of living with people I don't know in case a bad roommate damages my stuff.

I love this hobby, but it's all beginning to feel like a burden. Friends who live abroad keep making offers for me to come and stay with them for the summer, but I'm worried about leaving my wardrobe. So many of my pieces would be near-impossible to find again second-hand that I don't want to downsize, but I kind of want to stick most of it in storage and live out of a suitcase for a while.

sorry for wall of text but I needed to vent, can't talk to my normie friends as they lowkey dislike lolita and encourage me to quit

>What's your most expensive item?
I accidently bought a Moitie bolero for 21k, because I thought it would be a set with a JSK. Other than that, the Day Dream Carnival Set for 42k...

>What's the best deal you've found?
Purple St.Mephisto OP for 16k, VM Lace-UP Doll OP for 12k, Meta's Hakuoki JSK for 13k, an AP Nun OP+Headbow for 12k and the whole white Hospitality Doll Set for 18k yen.
Also a lot of dresses under 4,000 yen of pretty much every brand. The best one was a beautiful Meta cross OP for only 1,700 yen! I will never understand people who insist that lolita is super expensive. Nowadays even AP dresses go for less than a half of the retail price a few months after their release.

>How much would you estimate your wardrobe at now?
I'm a cheapskate and the majority of my wardrobe is old school but I own over 60 main pieces, so that's hard to say. It's probably worth between $4000 and $6000.

>When it comes to a lolita wardrobe we're all agreed on the basic basics (petticoat etc) but what are your personal essentials?
I think parasols (more accurately, umbrellas that look like parasols) are an underrated accessory these days. I think coats are an essential as well if you live somewhere where the climate requires it, but I get that they don't seem worth the investment when they cost so much to buy and ship and you're only going to need them for a few meets a year.

>What can you not live without?
Lolita shoes. Shoes dictate substyle a lot of the time.

>What are you planning on adding to your wardrobe over the coming year?
Some better-quality wigs, a peignoir (I know, years too late for that trend), some more accessories. I've just done a big shoe and legwear haul so I feel pretty satisfied with my basics now, and even though I'm keeping an eye out for wishlist pieces, I'm not prioritising new dresses since I already have like 50 main pieces. I'm trying to collect at least one piece from every brand I like as well.

>Let's chat wardrobe expansion!
For the first time in years I'm thinking of downsizing instead of expanding, since I'm probably going to be moving soon. It's hard because the only things in my to-sell pile are dresses, blouses and jackets, but there's no urgent need for me to sell those items since my current wardrobe still fits in one (wide) closet. I don't want to sell any of my 20 bags or 25 pairs of shoes since but they take up so much more space. I already sold the stuff I didn't love earlier in the year, so now it seems like the only way to make space is to quit wearing some substyles and colours entirely, which would be kind of a shame. I know my style's all over the place but I like everything I have too much to phase anything out. I'm the same with normie clothes but after a failed attempt to streamline down to one or two styles last year (just made me feel boxed-in and unhappy) I gave up and just embraced it.

Lint rolling or ironing my dresses gives me some strange sense of satisfaction and it kind of feels like "bonding" with my dresses. After that, I feel deeply calm and happy.
