>tfw compulsive skin-picking as part of my OCD

people ask me why i haven't tried Accutane or seen a dermatologist at all. i don't know how to explain that my skin problems are self-inflicted.

>mfw compulsive skin-picking

fuck this illogical bullshit, been trying to stop for a decade and i keep giving in. the more time goes by, the more new ways of picking i find.

i am on an anti-anxiety med for other things and it hasn't helped. i will never have smooth skin. there will always be bumps. feeling a bump does not mean i need to remove it.

why is it so hard to think logically about this?

>face picker

iktf.

for me, i have added nice skincare products gradually to my routine. i try to get that shit on my face early in the day, including sunscreen and BB cream. then i am scared to pick because i will mess up my nice and costly (for me) layer of sun protection.

it does not always work but it helps to try to refocus obsessive habits into constructive ones...

also, there is some split in the psychology community over whether to classify skin picking as an impulse control disorder, an OCD type of thing, or an addiction. this classification is important because different reasons for picking will need different treatments. i have read that those who have a more OCD style of picking respond well to SSRIs (antidepressants), but for those in whom it is more like an addiction SSRIs may exacerbate the issue.

but in both types, picking is likely a way to manage stress. try learning some stress reduction techniques and stay away from a mirror if you are worried about anything, have something important you are dreading, etc.
