ah jeez seagull, somehow i missed it! the wire advice is really helpful. i was hoping to avoid a visible spiral of tape, but was worried about paint flaking off of the cords. combining tape, then paint, then a matte clear spray might work???

thanks very much for the inspiration cause it's much less trouble than trying to coat with silicone or some other prosthetic method.
