I went to hobby lobby for everything.
buy a square wooden dowel, carve a small trench into one end
glue together 3 wooden O's, then glue them into the trench. (I also used some small nails to reenforce). Use wood filler to fill any holes.
i them got papercraft H's and I's (the I's were used to lengthen the H's)
glue and stable the H's to the other end. again, use wood filler to fill in if it doesnt lay flat against the dowel and to strengthen the H's for painting and wear and tear.
I ran out of time a bit so mine has some seams on it, that'd I wish I had gotten rid of, but on well.

then prime, then paint. (sand as needed).

wasn't difficult.
