Has anyone here ever worn a full ballgown before?

Are they heavy? Is it hard to walk around in if you're not used to it? Do you have to left up the skirt to walk properly, or is that something only old dresses have an issue with (due to advancements in crinoline)

Is it hard to move around in a dress like this? Is it hard to reach past the width of a dress? Is it hard to tie down, or does it depend on the material used?

I'm trying to write a story about a lady wearing such a dress ends up getting tied up, but I've been told that ropes would eventually just slide off silk and such. And of course, the reason I'm asking is because I've never put on a dress before, but I have a thing for them.
