Loose, flowy lines and lots of layers tend to make fat girls look fatter. Defining the smallest part of the waist, tailored shapes, and not layering thick, bulky things on to make you look even more like you take up all the space in the universe.

That's why anorexics who are trying to hide the fact that they are dangerously underweight tend to wear loose, baggy clothing and why when the fashionable thing was for women to be chubby by modern standards at different points in history, those points tend to favor more fitted bodices and lots of shaping garments that create an hourglass figure.
