Their first Dutch edition last year was surprisingly positive. Lots of dealers and artists, there just wasn't much in terms of content "to do". The only real issue people had as far as I can recall was transportation as the venue is annoying to get to without a car. My take, if you like what Heroes offers with DCC you'll probably enjoy MIA too.

Gorinchem is on itself a pretty good venue as long as you don't have to rely on public transport. This is an issue that they have to solve for MIA.

Seems like conventions aren't the only thing having a hard time after 2 years of nothingness. Aniway, a Dutch anime, convention and cosplay magazine, had to postpone their latest volume due to money problems. Seems a bit weird though, unless many people cancelled their subscription they hardly should had been affected by the last 2 years. Or did they lose large sponsors?

I think a lot of their sales also depended on conventions, and without cons, no sales.
Maybe now is the right time to donate some money to aniway and demand them to write an article about highly critical european herring gulls.

They also sold their magazine through bookstores and other shops, everything was affected by the lockdowns of the last two years. A lot of more specialized magazines are in a rough place at the moment.

Nishi is still a mess, but if they manage to fix their shit I think they still have a change to become the 3rd weeb weekend con besides abunai and animecon.
I liked it when they had a con in the winter. I hoped that they would try to become the winter con since that's usually a period with not that many cons except small ones. I understand that most cons are in summer because the weather is better and since it's vacation more people are able to go, but I wish that there were more cons in the winter period. Maybe place a con somewhere during the christmas season or spring break in february?

Without sounding too much like 'please spoonfeed me' can someone give me the rundown of AnimeCon in June? Friend and I are currently wondering if it's worth it or not compared to Dokomi. We are currently leaning towards AnimeCon as it is a 3 day event, but everything I see online is quite polarizing as to if it is good or not. Equal distances from both so it's not really a debate of 'which one is easier to get to', just wondering what to expect since it appears us going to AnimeCon for a 3 day event at this time.

>> No.10743878 [View]

>>10743875
It's in a new location and a smaller one that usual and the ongoing pandemic probably changed a lot of the usual program, so nobody really knows what to expect.
From my experience animecon feels (usually) like a very high quality event with lots of things to do, workshops and lectures to attend, international guests and concerts, AMV and cosplay competitions, a huge gameroom, and I hope the maid cafe will also be there again this year.
I always have a great time at animecon, except that one time in ahoy where there was no daylight and they went through my bags and confiscated my food even though I bought it at the event. Fuck ahoy.

It is going to be two events, the one in June in Rijswijk, just a bit more adapted to the new location which is a bit smaller than Ahoy, still the Broodfabriek is an excellent choice so I wonder why Acon did not look at this location when they where leaving the World Forum.

The other event will be Acon Classic in THA that we all love, I am looking forward to that one, it most likely will sell out because it is much smaller than Rijswijk.

>> No.10744145 [View]

>>10744128
They probably wanted a bigger location than world forum and went with ahoy. They could have also picked MECC in Maastricht but maybe they were worried that one was too far away and that they would lose congoers from the randstad?
Broodfabriek is a lot smaller but like you said, there are now two animecons and they're trying to split their audience across two events. We will just have to wait and see how that will turn out.

Exactly. You joined and haven't send even a single message, nor replied when reached out to. Then today, almost a week after joining and nothing but silence, you drop in on an active voice channel with your microphone muted. You've been called out several times during that voice call, each time without any response. You were even reminded your microphone was muted in case you hadn't noticed, but again no response. Not in voice, not in text.

The server rules are pretty clear about lurking not being allowed. And while we tend to be lenient with that rule unless there's drama taking place, this was just creepy behaviour that really made you stand out hence why the rule got enforced. Just imagine you're chilling with friends irl and some stranger keeps following you around, listening in on everything, yet ignores you when you call them out. Wouldn't you feel weirded out? Because in this situation, that stranger was you.

Don't worry, I was kicked out too for having a objective discussion that the discord server blew up over, for having a different opinion.
It's better not to be there and getting triggered, so that people pull you in a discussion where most of the people try to be smart-asses, and loosing the conversation, and starting to attack you personally, until some admin kicks and bans you for having a different opinion, while the rest of the people afterwards start to harass you...

>What did you all think of DCC?
At first it was weird being around so many people for the first time since the pandemic, but things quickly went back to feeling normal. I definitely noticed there being fewer dealers with artists now taking up their space with new items which was nice. The actual artist alley was placed a bit out of the way, but that also made is less crowded and easier to browse. Seriously, at times the dealer hall was so full you could barely move forward.

One of the two things which made me sad in the dealer room were the insane amount of lucky "unwanted junk and unlicensed prints and trinkets" bags. I've gotten so used to them being banned or heavily regulated at other events that I had forgotten how much of a problem they actually are. The other thing which made me sad were those stands that only sold well known Ali Express items at a massive markup. The stand with the LED masks and glasses first comes to mind, but the stands that really took the cake were the ones selling those golden bank notes with popular characters on them. €35 for a bill with (likely) stolen artwork and case that goes for less than €10 on Ali Express including shipping and taxes... Yikes!

Aside from that I really enjoyed watching the cosplay catwalk. It was very refreshing to see all those excited and somewhat anxious cosplayers walk up and have their 15 seconds of happiness. Liked it more than what I've seen from the actual compo oddly enough.

There wasn't much else to do, just a few games and Q&A's. I've never been a huge fan of these type of comic con style events and probably won't return to DCC for a few editions, but it was a nice starting point after such long drought. Also loved this diorama at the PlamoDX stand.

Although, it sounds familiar that some person was doing that, and that person should gtfo, so I agree with you on that totally.
As for the harassing, I was harassed, until I doxed the person back spamming me outside the whole ordeal, and the person shut up afterwards. I guess it's fine to harass someone over a different opinion, it's retarded.

I contacted the person through my own chat board that I knew who was harassing me, and that he/she would do good to quit it. That actually did the thing. I never actually "doxed" the person, if that makes sense ? The person just was dumb using her working internet to do the harassing.

The Discord server is almost 5 years old, way past its peak, and there have only been around 20 bans (excluding alts, bots, approved ban appeals etc). The fast majority of these banned accounts were trolls from /int/ looking for cosplay pussy, as well as a few stalkers chasing their victims online. Looking at the ban list, only 1 user fits what, who I will now refer to as "Angry Anon" for the sake of anonimity, has described. It appears I'm not the only one who has connected the dots, but keep in mind name-dropping here is against 4chan rules.

For full transparency, everything said back then is still up on the Discord server for anyone to read. We don't delete messages unless deemed necessary. As far as I can remember and have briefly read up on, there was an incident back in September 2019 when Angry Anon joined the server and shortly after started to harras a few female server members. It started with hot takes such as "all woman lie about sexual harrassment" which eventually spiraled out of control with mud throwing from 2 sides, despite efforts from others to keep things civil and on-topic. Matters quickly escalated further with Angry Anon threatening to use old connections get everyone con banned if they wouldn't play nice. When called out on this Angry Anon proceeded to make threats of doxing and us being the target of "600gbit" DDOS attacks. It was around this point where the banhammer got dropped, and rightfully so. The main server rule comes down to "just don't be a dick", and by then it had been violated countless times with the threats being the final straw.

After the ban 1 server member, who has been mostly inactive since later that year, did harrass Angry Anon elsewhere. When we as mods found out we repeatedly told that member to stop and leave it all behind, which they eventually did. And that's that. I hope this clears a few things out regarding the ban and helps you move on with your life.

I'm somewhat mixed on the writing, but the outcry I've seen on social media feels unjustified. This is an opinion piece on the Comic Con experience written from the POV of an outsider. As such it's not intended to be a positive pat on the back article the greater community only wants to see.from the press.

Reading between the lines the article manages to capture the essence of a comic con just fine. You have fans getting together, enthusiastically celebrating their oddball hobbies, some dedicated enough to wear costumes and enthusiastically presenting themselves. For outsiders such as the author and "mom's who tagged along" this definitely seems weird, but it also explains how for insiders it's a form of positive escapism where they feel safe and accepted in an open community. Some of the quirks with cosplay, photography and use of business cards was added, again something outsiders would consider weird. I also truly respect how the author also didn't pretend it's all roses and unicorns after all the super positive takes and quotes and included the darker side of things such as sexual harrassment.

To me there were only 2 questionable parts in the article. The first was the unnecessary intro on Ukrainian refugees who could be afraid of costumed nerds and usual weapon prop request from the police. The second was how the only POC in the article was described as being black and working at KFC, where everyone else was just another name. But aside from that, it's all fine by me.

That explanation is so much taken out of it's context, it's funny how you keep out the whole discord server harassing Angry Anon, and you let it all slide off as "normal behavior"?
Yah, it's going to be a tough action to ban the whole discord server for violating the "don't harass people" rule...

As for the DDoS, that wasn't even said, you made that up. No threat with DDoS was made, it was a explanation how the Angry Dude got a DDoS of 600gbit on his modem connection, don't try to reverse the whole explanation, that's just sad.

You are allowing your discord group to harass and bully a guy on discord for having a other opinion, which you also seem to put completely out of it's context....

Like I've said, everything is still up on the Discord for anyone to read if they want to evaluate the situation themselves. The original DDOS threat, and I quote was "heb je wel eens 600gbit op je bek gehad?" or "Have you ever been hit by 600gbit?" for the English speakers. Pretty clear language, especially under the circumstances. There is nothing else for you gain here. The choice to ban you after going full dick mode and mentioned threats is final and will NOT be reverted as you clearly haven't changed at all during the past 3 years. Have a wonderful day!

>>10747794
The main language of the server is Dutch, but we do occasionally get Non-Dutchies looking for information on specific conventions. They are welcome to join of course, but do know things might be hard to follow once people switch back to Dutch. We use separate joinable ranks and channels for each convention, so if that's your primary goal you could join them and ignore everything else.
