Natural sunlight and a light backdrop.
Observing how small time models take pics (especially taking note of what they take advantage of in their environment) helped me a lot desu
Other than that I think it’s easier to say: avoid using flash, dark environments, and taking the pic from directly above the bag (bc the vinyl will glare).
Oh and desu if the pic has glare and doesn’t look good, no matter how excited you are just wait for better pic taking conditions. It breaks my heart seeing an actually good bag but it’s an awful pic of it

How do you attach a rosette to the outside of a bag without pinning through it? It’s not the end of the world if I do have to pin, but I’d rather not damage the cloth.

Depending on material, maybe try removable fabric tape? If you're planning to affix it near an edge, you can glue it to a clip.

Fling Posse has a pretty nice colour scheme to work with. Though but I feel you on the Ramuda bit.

I personally want to do Shinjuku or just Jakurai. the problem with doing Shijuku is that Hifumi and Doppo are so popular and go for so much (here in Japan esp second hand stores) its hard to get matching merch for all 3.

The only nice thing about it being so popular is that splits and getting rid of merch you dont want is pretty easy.

I actually gambled and bought a Thailand import on ebay called Dollarz. It's big enough to nest my large Salus messenger bag in it, and seems like a nice size to bring on the plane as a carry on. I haven't actually tested it in the real world yet.
The build quality of the bag itself is very good, and it comes with a velcro insert, but the straps and gold hardware are kind of low quality for the price. I plan to swap them out later.

Anon is right, these look like cluttered messes. Try mirroring merch with similar sizes and colors and it’ll improve the layout a lot. Switch the background for the 4 boys one to something without a pattern or a much lighter pattern and do the same mirroring. You have some rows with color on one side and black on the other so it feels unbalanced and awkward. 4 boys bag is the most cluttered and congested but I’d say the striped background is to blame for most of that. Just some advice but if you don’t want it well you do you man.

look like they were strung up there like a dad stringing up lights on a shitty Christmas tree.You should start out by having all matching merch with the merch of both of the characters in the middle of the bag so it doesn't feel overloaded, I'd say also get rid of the fairy lights since they do nothing for the bag. Its massive both in height and depth but one of the best bags I have for practical use honestly. It has so many pockets and I like to go to draw parties so its perfect for carrying supplies and sketchbooks. Definitely needs an insert for support at least. The material was pretty stiff at first but a bit of wear has made it relax so without an insert it slouches. Indefinitely want to get another later but I'm probably going with the smaller arched version next time. The wait was worth it. Like I said honestly one of my favorite and best bags.

Not an in depth review but a quick overview for peoples reference.
The Melty Bag was a gift from my SO because he saw I wanted it but really didn't want to pay for it cause the creator was an art thief. He meant well but this kinda negated my whole wanting to NOT give them money. [Whatever, it was a gift.] The whole waiting and communicating was an absolute shitshow with this girl comparing her preorder to AmiAmi and telling everyone shes not going to answer their email if its answered in her FAQs. While fair, nothing in her FAQs has to do with receiving updates on shipping if they're not subscribed to her instagram. Had to cheat the system to get a basic idea on what was going on with the preorder. Really, really, not worth the headache or the cost for her shitty attitude and the state of the bag.
Now while the bags were in limbo for 3 months and all I finally got mine and its just below mediocre. Yes I have my drippy cutout window, but it came scuffed and dented in some small places, probably because it was shipped in a plastic bag and not a flat rate box..The bag has a laptop pocket but it wont fit any laptop bigger than 12". The straps feel like they're going to stretch and snap eventually but because of how they're sewn on to the main bag, replacing them seems neigh impossible. The window is sectioned off by its own zipper which is nice but the fabric between the window and the rest of the bag is thin and semi sheer so an insert is mandatory. The zipper pulls are large stars, which is cute, but has nothing to do with the drippy theme and makes it so I can't hang extra merch of them unless I pry the stars off. The BlueRoboto bag sports a massive 12x9" display window while the Drippy bag is 9x10" at its least obstructed top part, and the BlueRobo measures about 16x12x6" while the Drippy bag, looking similar in size, stands at 14x12x4.5".

What kills me most about this is that whoever made it clearly put effort into it. The paint doesn't look streaky, they made an insert, pinned the charm in the middle well enough, etc. But no amount of effort would make it look good, because all the choices that went into this bag were flawed from the start. kind of crap pics since it's late, but both bags are GREAT.

white bag has glitter in the window, but it's not super noticeable. PU is more off white than pure white, is thick, and the (adjustable) strap is backed with cotton webbing, so it should be strong. i lengthened the strap all the way and it sits comfortably on my hip if i wear it as a crossbody bag (which was my plan). it's lined with off white satin and has a velcro-closed slot for an insert (the satin is really thin, so i'd use an insert with this). it also has an extra pocket on the backside for flat things that closes with a magnet.

the black bag is unexpectedly awesome. i was worried that the fur would be scratchy, but it's SO SOFT. the handles are a good length for actually using the bag as a bag, not just a mobile display. no glitter in the window on this one, also lined in satin, with a couple built-in pockets on one side and the velcro-closed slot for an insert on the other. the bag overall is pretty floppy, so you'd have to use an insert for this one. it doesn't stand up on its own, so don't expect to be able to sit it down without it collapsing on itself. it's still a great bag, and a total steal if that WEGO sale is still going on.

I'm quite lucky and Rom has generic anime boy hair, so I could use the hair pieces from YoI Yuri and didn't need to modify it beyond a paint job. I'm also making a Shuu nendo to match him, and have had to modify his hair pieces a lot. I use apoxie sculpt and a lot of trial and error.

Quite expensive, at least $100-150 once I factor in the different face plates, body parts and equipment like apoxie and dremels. I've also been using the nendo face plate maker since they have a tanned skin option now, and have ordered those nendo dolls as making clothing will be a lot easier than modifying bodies all the time.

Black tends to kill visibility with clear charms. If you could find something that screams phantom theif, even like a crushed velvet, the texture alone would reduce the plain. You could probably get away with a plaid that matches the uniform, plaid patterns if they're large enough and mutual toned tend to fill space nicely. as someone who just got two rare-ish usagi acrylics for my bag today, this almost physically hurts.

I've had an itapouch for a while and I've been slowly accumulating enough merch to warrant moving up to a bag but I'm not used to working with so much real estate, so to speak. There's a previous incarnation of the May bag but I couldn't find a photo. Guess I disliked it that much. As for my progress, I'm neutral about it. On one hand, I feel like I definitely upgraded in terms of showing off my love and devotion. On other hand, I realized I'm pretty terrible when it comes to craft and design. Even though my previous bag had sparse merch, I still liked it because it incorporated different kinds of merch compared to my current bags, which are pretty much just can badges.

Personally not a fan because the vast majority don't have any sort of content like a webcomic or a non-fanfiction based story where other people can grow to like them too. I see a lot of people I knew back when this hobby was just taking off are barely working on more bags/their activity has slowed these days because they've finished it or want to cool it with the spending. Hell, I've even seen people just sell their entire bag and merch collection because they're just sick of the hobby.
I finished my bag a couple months back and happy that I did but as of recently every time I look at it I feel anxiety/regret. I put way too much money into it, and I'm probably going to sell off most of it once I show it off once or twice.... honestly I'm just not feeling it anymore. This hobby can really grind you down with all the hype, pressure, and money spending. And like anons above said, taking a good break/go on hiatus is a really good idea if this hobby is wearing you down or you've lost motivation.

Exactly, I have found and bought most of the available merch so now I just check the secondhand websites every now and then, and sometimes I add a rubber strap to my order. I got pretty much everything that's been released (not that impressive because he doesn't have a lot of merch) so all I can do now is get extra stuff or look for fanmerch. I commissioned some art to make acrylic charms, and I also backed a Kickstarter for character pins a while ago but they look horrendous and I'm really pissed about it.

I think part of the reason why it's gone so quiet, is like a lot of others anons have pointed out, there are only so many bags and merch you can buy until you start feeling like a hoarder, and you start getting that buyers regret and want to sell things. First of all, welcome!

Second of all, it was for a good while. It was during the time where there was a major boom of itabags popping up at cons because some of the kids wanted to be a part of the “cool kids club”, but didn’t have the money to back it up. It resulted in a lot of shitty bags in a hobby that required at least some effort and left most of the people who actually gave a shit to drown in “look at my one charm in this bootleg heart backpack I got off eBay!” posts in the main fb group. It didn’t help that these people were coming in by the droves with the hobby growing too big too fast.

The result is what you see here today. Burnt out from trying to correct newbies, to spoon feeding the same question over and over again. Also the overall competitiveness of it to combat the shitabags like other anime mentioned above.

That was me. I actually saw this while I was browsing the pages and wanted to update in case anyone was still worried.

I'm actually doing really good now. My family got concerned and rounded up everything I had thrown out (literally 90% of my belongings) and kept it in storage. I just recently came out about my mental breakdown and my shopping addiction to them so I'm letting my siblings take whatever they want from what's left over.

I've remained downsized and I feel SO much better for it. I never realized how bad it was until I went from having everything to having pretty much nothing and what few things I do have left are packed up in boxes that I haven't even thought about in my closet for over two months now?

I'm sort of lapsing into my bad habits though like picking up Uta no Prince Sama app again (long story with that one) but it's a relief to know that I don't feel as attached as before. I'm slowly getting back into anime but it's hard because I'm worried it'll trigger me back into wanting merch so one step at a time. I still can't look at Tiger & Bunny though so I don't think I'll ever rewatch it or get into the new releases.

I've invested a lot in clothes since then (instead of trinkets) and I've actually got a credit card and savings now! I'm trying to regain the money I lost to my spending and set them aside for financial goals like going on trips and eventually moving in with a friend in a year or two (hopefully!).

tl;dr I'm ok mentally now and I went from depressed weeb to somewhat content basic bitch.
