the jacket is extremely unfitting on the person (chest loafing plus shoulders), the hat looks really lumpy (is it flopping over intentionally? what's the feather there for?), there's little to no cohesion in the coord, the belt is making the shape of the jacket even more absurd (this is very much not a belt I would ever wear over an article of clothing like this) and while the gloves slightly help colour cohesion, they look fucking stupid in the rest of the coord context

This is a good start for the fashion. But if you’re really wanting to look cute and acceptable, I would suggest not wearing black cat ears with an all pink co-ord. The dress is also made with some stiff looking lace that looks cheap and almost cosplay like. The bodice half looks like it’s fitted poorly. Is it properly lined to prevent bunching around the waist? The fabric also looks pretty plastic like and cheap. This is very bad if you want to be serious about this style. You need higher end fabrics that flow nicely and are not stiff and unmoving. Also accessories are very important to pulling a minimal detailed outfit like this. Angelic pretty makes some cute purses that you can find for fairly reasonable on LM. A cute fluffy pink head bow might look better then the black animal ears. And try not to do the overly anime eye makeup. This is a fashion. Not a cosplay. Nice try darling, but you need to work a little more and research the fashion a bit more.

So I think they did at least have decent dresses, they just .....fucked up everything else. Starting with the fit, but all three of them basically look like they dropped money on the main piece and maybe one accessory and then cheaped out on everything else. Holy shit, old egl always warned about not using square dance pettis but by the time I got into lolita it's long past the time where anyone actually tried to use them so I never really saw the disaster that comes with them. The explanation is that square dancing skirts are circle skirts, so the petticoats are extra, extra, extra poofy -- not only that, but they're apparently meant to flash as you twirl during the dance, so it's quite normal for so much poof that the skirt practically looks like it's trying to turn itself inside out.

That’s because malco modes 580 (Zooey) and 582 (Jennifer) where used. Malco mode’s is used mostly for square dancing but have very durable petticoats that can take a washing. The 580 was mainly used for long aline skirts to give it a balanced poof for its length. The 582 was top layers pinned up to make a cupcake shape. Otherwise it was an aline. But any other petticoat from the company was far too poofy for the fashion.

You've literally pointed out major differences. Yes, the shape can be similar but the material choice and the styling/style of said dresses (which you didn't mention) is pretty key. The printed fabrics and bright colours that people often use in square dance skirts, for example, look fine when you're dancing, but would look awful in lolita. There is crossover with some lolita outfits in terms of similar shape, but that's like saying "50s day dresses with full skirts are lolita if you change the accessories".
