Off topic but I’m another America anon, wood paneling is definitely a (super ugly) thing, especially for older houses/rental properties that haven’t been rennovated. Used to live in a rental townhouse that had a basement made of paper thin wood panelling. It’s even uglier in real life, and you can give yourself splinters if you’re not careful. If I was her I’d pick another place to take any pictures, the wood makes taking good pics hard because it messes up color balances and tends to look really yellow.

Wood panelling isn't an American invention. It was done in Europe for hunderds of years. Generally it's quite beautiful when done well (like pic related), but cheap ass panelling like that girl has just looks bad. Wouldn't be suprised if that's made from plywood. Panelling is common in historical European houses, especially expansive houses from Renaissance era. But even now it's not impossible to get a nice panelling job done. Restaurant at top middle is a more modern USA one.
