I think lolita fashion is just niche and I'm not sure what's going on with Japanese lolitas anymore. They seem so overshadowed by Chinese lolitas that I bet a good majority of the candidates were Chinese and maybe didn't speak fluent enough Japanese or live in Japan.

There was a BtSSB design contest not long ago and almost all the entries were Chinese. I think that was pretty telling about who is making and applying for designing lolita these days.

I really wish some Western Moitiefag would apply, but I think their standards are high. They could very possibly be inbetween designers.

As a separate note, many brand umbrellas have metal parts and metallic screenprints on them so you have to properly dry off the umbrella before putting it away or the metal bits oxidize and change color, which can stain the fabric. Drying it is as easy as running a paper towel over the surface but you just can't forget.

As a Catholic, I agree that that's what everyone says. I'd say that irl too if asked directly. Like it's not meant to be jewellery. But that is really not how we act about our rosaries haha. If you got a swarovski rosary for your first communion, you show it off to the other girls. They can be family heirlooms. My aunt wears her carmelite-made one visibly so it's both a symbol showing her religion but also because it's pretty, pic related is a similar one. They're definitely dual purpose both spiritual and mundane to many people even if they don't want to admit it. But you're right this is a fashion discussion, it doesn't really matter

Raised Catholic here. Rosaries are obviously not designed to be worn, and many don’t even fit over an average head or have the tensile strength to suspend the crucifix without breaking. As long as the rosary fits and won’t break, go ahead and wear it, though technically it’ll be kind of similar to that ita who wore an extension cord as a headbow.

Catholic here, I personally don't care and most people wouldn't. They'd probably just assume it was jewelry, and on that note plenty of Catholics wear jewelry with crosses on them so it's not really much of a big deal. Obviously don't go into a church and flaunt it but if you're just out with it I doubt most people would notice, much less care.

>rosaries aren't designed to be worn
What? Just... What? That sounds like the kind of white lie parents tell kids so they don't flaunt their rosaries like jewellery. For your average Catholic's rosary though, that's just not true. Your standard 5-mystery rosary is literally shaped the way it is so that it can go over a head or looped around a wrist and be transported easily, it would also have made it hard to steal back when a rosary might be the only valuable thing a person owns. 1-mystery rosary bracelets are very common too, and you can't say a full 15 - mystery one wouldn't fit over someone's head. Yes, there are heirloom rosaries out there that are old and possibly too jewelled or valuable to be worn. But that's just not true for your average rosary, even most fancy ones.

How many things are on your lolita wishlists?

How do you decide what gets added or removed from your wishlist?

I tried cleaning up my wishlist folder after letting it accrue stock photos for years and still have 50+ items (~30 are dresses). It's easy to rule out things that aren't my style anymore, but my list still feels overwhelming!

I've been in lolita for more than 10 years, have about 75 main pieces, and have narrowed my wishlist down to 10 items, 8 of which are dresses.

Just look at your wishlist and think about if a listing were to pop up today, would you buy it? If not, then maybe it's less of a priority and can be removed or at least reorganized for the time being. I used this mindset to clear out my wishlist; there's only 10 pieces that could make me jump for them right now, everything else is just a "maybe someday, but if not then no big deal" item

Update on Atelier Pierrot shop marking down packages, as promised.
Ordered the 21st, arrived today (free ems shipping).
The box was neutral, had nothing to grab attention like shop stickers, etc. only the customs/address form.
They declared it under 2500yen as asked and I didn't have to pay customs.
It was well packaged and I received a large coated canvas AtiePie tote and a card with a thank you note.
Very pleased with my purchase and will definitely order from them again.

So if you want to order directly from them and want them to mark your package down, fill in the desired amount in the comment box.

I’m not into religion now but my family is catholic (one of my favorite memories from childhood is my great grandmother teaching me the rosaries, and I went I catholic school).
The rosary is kind of like a prayer abacus and not a necklace, each bead is a a prayer. Some rosaries have more variety, like an extra metal part, different beads, etc. and that’s so you can say different prayers. You put it on your wrist and count the beads as you pray. You keep them in a little pouch while you’re not using them, some people wear the pouch.
Anyway the only people I used to see actually wearing the rosaries might be a nun but that was rare. In recent years though you see a lot of hipsters or jersey shore types wearing them (though I’m sure their grannies would give them side eye at least).
All in all I really don’t think you should worry though! Personally I think they look better if they’re tailored to your outfit and the little pendants are switched out for something matching your aesthetic. May Mana be with you, amen.

Pretty much every physical shop in Japan will give foreigners tax free if they can show their passport. They do have to fill out paperwork and calculate stuff, sometimes you'll have to go to a seperate part of the mall to get your cash back in hand.

It's understandable that baby and AP don't bother because it's probably a hassle to do for online sales when they get bloodbath releases anyway. AP doesn't even ship directly overseas or take paypal which is fine because I guess they're not really catering to the western market over other markets. AtePie probably gets few enough online international orders that it's worth doing the paperwork and offering to mark down for customs. Not sure how they don't lose out on the shipping though.

I assumed that they're getting it at a slight discount so that it's still profitable for them to sell.

>> No.10093921

>>10093908
I imagine they get their stuff from brands at some kind of wholesaler/supplier rate so they don't run at a loss from buying the items themselves. They would likely make less profit than other retailers by discounting the 8% tax and shipping but since it's just for international orders it probably isn't too much of a big deal to them. It all depends on how many international orders they actually get compared to instore or domestic orders where they charge the 8% to Japanese residents.

It's also important to keep in mind that AtePie has other retailers like Wunderwelt to compete with for a lot of their brands so they need to provide incentive for overseas customers to buy from them. If I were to buy a new Baby dress I could likely only get it from Baby, so they don't have much reason to give tax exemptions because they have no competition. But if I were to buy say, a Moitie dress it'd probably be stocked on both AtePie and Wunderwelt which has the advantage of getting every release thanks to shared parent company. AtePie is a physical store and their own brand first but I guess they want to have something to offer overseas online customers so they can make those sales on the side. They also order in stuff if asked so they're pretty hard to beat. I can't imagine that the international sales make up a huge portion of their customer base though. Many people don't even know they exempt tax and shipping.

I think you’re confused. AtePie would certainly not be paying the retail price for items they stock for other brands. They receive it at a discount from the manufacturer (cost price) and sell it at a markup and keep the profit, the same as any retailer which stocks items from a number of different manufacturers or suppliers.

Also for anyone who is confused about the 8% tax, AtePie doesn’t loose any money by not charging this tax on international orders. They’re not required to charge it for those orders because it’s not considered a domestic purchase. The 8% tax charged on domestic orders isn’t profit for the company, it goes directly to the Japanese government.

So the only possible part they may be losing money on is the free shipping, but considering the discounts japan post offers to businesses I’m sure they’ve worked out a way for it to be a cost-effective promotion

Realistically, aside from the rare meetup on convention I only wear the same 20 dresses for day to day type stuff, and then there are about 10 Dresses I choose from for my fancier date night outfits. The rest are things like Puppet Circus, my showcase items, sailor Lolita OPs just in case there’s a sailor themed meet, and a bunch of older printed AP and AatP dresses that I love but just don’t wear anymore because I don’t really feel comfortable wearing big prints out daily anymore.
Besides, I may be moving to a smaller house soon and I’d have to move 2/3 of my wardrobe into a storage unit. I just have too much. Everything feels crappy and cluttered and it gives me anxiety.
