Does anybody have scans that resemble early / proto lolita fashion? I used to have a few scans on an old hard drive but they're long gone. I've tried to re-find the images many times over the years, but I'm starting to think they're now super-rare. I think they may have come from a very old, long dead egl post back in the day.

I'd be interested if anyone has then too! I always read about how lolita kicked off in the 70s/80s but there's so little in the way of recognisable history to be found. Novala Takemoto claims to be working on something like that, but I don't know if anything will come of it.

>Angelic Pretty ( autrefois Milk & Pretty ), par contre, a été créé beaucoup plus tôt ( en 1979 ) mais n'était au départ qu'une simple ligne de prêt-à-porter mignon, bien qu'inspirant déjà les lolitas.

Yep, Okada Yukiko.
She won a talent show but developed some mental problems after falling in love with somebody.
She was found in a closet with slashed wrists after trying to gas her apartment and taken to hospital. She threw herself off a building while her management were trying to cover up the scandal.
She was 18, and “Yukiko Syndrome” was extremely popular for a whole afterwards (where her fans would copy her and throw themselves off of buildings to kill themselves)
Sadly her dead body is all over the internet because some Japanese newspaper published a photo of it.

>The reason for the suicide is still unknown, though it's been speculated it was due to Okada wanting a relationship with Tōru Minegishi, who had previously rejected her. This is due to Okada saying "I thought of someone" when replying to why she tried to kill herself at her apartment and to her manager discovering notes written by Okada describing her longing to be with Minegishi. Some of these notes ended with: "I wanted to see him again" and "My heart has nowhere else to go."

If any of you happen to be in Tokyo and you want to try and find some of these magazines, I highly recommend a store called Magnif in Jimbocho. I bought some really old Kera, Zipper and So-En there.

Condition varies a lot though, most of them were a bit musty but ok like old magazines usually are, but one of them stank of cigarette smoke so bad when I opened it up I couldn't finish looking through it.

If you can read Japanese you can read part of AP’s history with how it started in 79. This article is from street mode book.

This thread is absolutely fascinating. Thank you everyone who contributed!

NAYRT but this is pretty interesting! It says Pretty was a general cute select shop for Lolita items.
It was only when the customers asked “Why aren’t there any Pretty original items?” that they started their own brand which became Angelic Pretty.

I very much enjoyed the nostalgia and history in this thread.

THANK YOU

>the original Kyary?
I know you were just joking but that title goes to Tomoe Shinohara.
Kyary's whole career was based on her.

I was thinking about posting her fashion but this is an 80s thread and her stuff is mid 90s/early 2000s

Yes you can! There is a photo app for that. It's also called google translate, it's up on app store and play store.

Nayrt but that app doesn't work on my current phone, and isn't available for computer. I used to have a different phone that it did work on, and I used it to translate idol magazines, but it didn't work most of the time because of the Japanese fonts. If it works for you, can you please post it?

Images like >>10092546 and >>10092549 don't work in that app

Ah darn it! I can try and sharpen the pictures in ps and see if it will work. Might not but gotta give it a go! Otherwise I have a friend who is japanese. Can ask him to translate it.

It’s not worth it, the picture that the original anon attached was just an interview with the model about her time in the magazine and how she’s graduating high school.
Olive has otome (the word otome: girly, maiden) vibes but it isn’t actually called otome.
Nowadays Otome Kei would refer to the genre of anime/games/manga. If you said Otome Fashion people would understand the vague meaning (girly, maiden-like) but they wouldn’t think specifically of the style we refer to as Otome.
I’ll look over the other images but don’t expect much.

Are literally just a scrapbook, has cuttings from magazines stating where stuff is from and also has a pattern with notes.
>>10092551 states that all girls love bubbles and small flowers.
>>10092554 is classic and romantic.
