From what i've heard, it's socially acceptable to wear lolita in places like tokyo on weekends, but the idea of a daily lolita in japan is pretty much unheard of. Even if it may be more socially acceptable in the sense that people know lolita, japanese people are much more likely to cower to society's demands and seek to fit in, because of how demanding society may be. I remember a few years ago a female teacher got fired for wearing rather masculine clothes at work. Not entirely sure if she was a university or a high school teacher though.
