I think if you live somewhere with an active comm, it would be better to go to a smaller meet first as this one will be crazy. Also there’s no reason you can’t ask for tips at a smaller meet and therefore look better for the special occasion of an international meet, and you can get to know people in a more relaxed environment. And if you ignore local meets but show up for an international one the people organising the local meets are going to wonder why. Obviously if you don’t have a local active comm you haven’t got much choice.

Well I'm not too sure but from what I remember, when I was in Tokyo in 2013 it was still the cool WC. I think 1~2 years later Chinatsu sold it and opened a web brand called 'Kumatan Japan' that keeps to this day to sell kumatan stuff but the brand name WC and the shops belong to Wego.

Is it too late to get into the style I like?
I know the immediate answer will be no, of course not. But I always loved ko-gal, and I fear dressing like that at my age will come off as fetishistic (not because of gyaru itself, but because kinksters have associated older woman wearing uniforms with kink in the public eye) rather than gaudy and fun. I don't think I look old, but I certainly don't look how I did from 14-18, which is the age I see when I look up japanese street snaps.

Is there a similar style I can wear that makes me feel a bit more secure? Or am I making a big deal out of nothing?

Also I think baddies follow almost exclusively whatever is in fashion right now but gyaru take what's fashionable and make it gyaru or give it their own spin but that is more on an individual level than commentating on the fashions themselves.
