I have some ugly scars on my forearm recently (not cutting scars). It's starting to bother me. Would covering them with a bandage draw more attention or less? In general I know moisture and avoid sun exposure, both of which bandages might help with. I wear long sleeves at work so no issue there. But for walking around town etc? I've never used such a thing before so I don't know how realistically practical it is. Looks nice in anime imo.

>> No.10138884

Bandages are DEFINITELY going to draw attention. Are they deep scars? If not, consider covering it up with primer + a matching foundation. And wear sunscreen so the scars don't darken.

How old are your scars, how many are there and what size? Like the other anons said, your scars will fade with time. Mine are practically white now and not visible unless you're close up. Have you ever considered treatments instead of covering them with make up? Laser might be expensive but it may be worth investing in if your scars really bothers you. Been looking into that option myself. I tried Fraxium Fusion for my acne scars and was told the treatment worked on regular scars too. Jett Plasma might also be something to look into. Getting a tattoo would cover them up too but that definitely isn't up everyones alley. Sorry I can't give you any make up tips.

I'm going to assume 'skin stops producing collagen and starts dying at 25'

Skin does not 'stop producing collagen' completely and 'start dying' at 25, otherwise we'd be completely skinless within weeks if all skin did was die from age 25. Skin cell renewal DOES start slowing down at age 30. However, you can definitely still slow down the aging process by avoiding extrinsic factors that can damage the skin, such as UV rays. Sure, she may not look as good as if she started at 18, but it's still much better than doing nothing about it.

Start small, get a day cream and night cream to target your worries( in your case anti-aging, elasticity, plumping are target areas to look for) as well as a good facial sunscreen to prevent sun damaging.
Then move onto adding in serums/ ampoules. Use them daily along with a gentle cleanser (many people use cleansers that are doing more damage than good like ones with heavy exfoliations on a daily basis which will scar up your skin microscopically- nobody needs to exfoliate daily it’s best left to once a week or whenever necessary to get dead dry skin off)
I will say that once you see a wrinkle, nothing will fully remove it from existence but you can minimize the appearance of it by keeping your skin plump and moist with good skincare and doing that will prevent it getting worse/more.
Masks are a good idea once per week as well, use them especially after exfoliating days.
Just doing that should keep your skin in as good of a shape as it can be

Any good sunscreen recs for face and body for sensitive combination skin? Can be separate recs for both. I'm using pic related right now for face, it's the only one so far not to make me break out (Biore Watery Essence wrecked me) but it's a small amount for the price point and reapplication drains it fast. I haven't been using anything for my body, I wanted to get a body lotion with spf but all the ones I see are chemical and I'm scared they'll age my skin. In Korea there are these tinted creams that are popular that can make you look a about a shade whiter, but I would make sure you exfoliate (and consider removing the hair there too) first to avoid looking strange or ashy. The two that I know of are the tony moly panda's dream hand cream (there's one with the same effect but a thinner consistency and made for the face called magic white cream, I've used both of these and liked the results, I'm half latina and half white so my skin tone is a little odd too) and the secret key snow white milky pack (which I have not used).
It doesn't really rub off in my experience, maybe a little bit on dark clothing if there's a lot of friction, you could always hit it with some setting spray if you're worried. If you're willing to spend a little more or looking for something that won't look as white/ashy, there's alcohol activated paints, but these are expensive and you need 99% alcohol to use them, and taking that with you for touch-ups isn't ideal in my experience. However, it really does not budge until you re-activate it with alcohol.

Also, I just noticed today that when I use sunscreen on my face (I skipped during winter) that I look visibly older. I'm 23, and usually get told I look like a 12 years old (not as a compliment), aside from a few small pimples my face is smooth and has that baby fat too it, no creases or anything. But when I wear sunscreen, after a few hours my face looks like it has that grainy texture that middle aged women get and small fine wrinkles everywhere. My face is usually greasy too (t-zone) but instead of the usual 12-year old kid going through puberty kind of grease, I look like a shiny grandma. What gives, is it damaging my skin? I thought it might be showing preexisting damage but the rare times I wear foundation it doesn't have the same effect (it'll cling to dry spots though).

>> No.10141870

No, it isn't. It's just enhancing greasiness and texture. Nothing will age your skin in a day except maybe baking in the sun or the tanning salon and getting sunburnt. Try a sunblock that is not greasy. I'm not sure because i have the opposite issue (dry skin) but other anons can help you. I personally like the shiny skin and not being mistaken for a teenager for once is a relief for me.

Also as far as I know avobenzone is not supposed to age your skin. While it can break down, it is often combined with stabilizers and is fairly stable. Here's a pretty well referenced article:

https://www.aad.org/practicecenter/managing-a-practice/media-relations-toolkit/dermatology-issues-in-the-news/frequently-asked-questions-about-avobenzone

Personally I prefer physical sunblocks since due to their nature, they have less tendency to break down. They last longer and need less reapplication. Chemical sunblocks need more reapplication generally as they may have a tendency to break down more despite having photostabilizers applied to them.

Okay so my friend is in Hong Kong for a week and I asked him to bring some Asian make up for me and he said sure. Problem is, I havent been checking up on brands for a bit because I was too poor untill recently. Do you guys recommend any make up stores in Hong Kong? I wear eyeliner and mascara daily and would love to try false lashes and eyeshadow.

If you're willing to test Korean or Japanese brands, I can vouch for Majolica Majorca's Gel Liquid Liner and Mamonde's Long Lasting Liquid Liner. Majolica Majorca's is a pen-type, while Mamonde's is a brush-type. They're both waterproof and won't budge at all, I've taken showers with them intact and not smeared the slightest.

Essentially in korean makeup the emphasis in contour is to produce a more defined jaw and a sharper nose. The areas of concentration are 'lining' the jaw and defining it, and on shadowing the bigger portions of the nose and making it look smaller.

Most people don’t do every step every day. The more complicated stuff like sheet masks or exfoliating are typically only done every few days or once a week, and are usually part of the nighttime routine. If you can block off some time before you go to sleep for a longer pampering session, and then just moistuirize and sunscreen before work, you should be in a good position.

I've just started my new skincare routine this week thanks to the gulls here. My skin is usually dry, but it took an even further step in the direction of all kinds of fucked up and I've been finding dry skin on my eyelids of all places. Three days into a decent routine with products aimed at dry skin along with a serum and I've already dealt with the problem.
The real test is seeing how my makeup applies. It used to highlight all of the flakes even though I thought I'd exfoliated properly. I'm hoping I can actually wear make up and feel proud of it. It doesn't even feel like a chore, it helps me relax and focus on myself; something which I think we all should do more of.

The way it works is instead of coating and sticking completely it forms a tube around the eyelash and just slides off instead of it taking your eyelash with it. Think of it like tubing mascara is wax, you can usually peel it off, while regular mascara is closer to paint.

I'm about to essentially go into puberty again and my doctor warned me my skin will probably become oilier and develop acne.
My skin on my face, in the past and currently, is extremely dry and flakey and occasionally breaks out with some pimples. But on my shoulders and back, it's already pretty oily, and it has pretty bad acne.

Any korean skincare products recommendations for this? Face wash? Moisturizer?

I got an Etude House sunscreen months ago and for some reason it has been working wonders on my face to the point people compliment it all the time, but I still have pimples here and there.

I just wanna be a pretty boy, not a pepperoni pizza face.

I meant to reply to you earlier, but your question hit me right in the heart. I'd say it really would depend on what the scar looked like, and you did mention it isn't cutting scars. I wear a self-adhesive bandage on my arm now. It's from the elbow to right above the wrist. I wear the bandage because it draws different attention then what it's covering. People notice my arm is bandaged, but they don't stare or ask questions. When I tried leaving it without the bandage, people were given it horrified, prolonged stares. I'm sure had it just looked like a bad wound from an accident or surgery, it wouldn't draw the same attention.

It's practical. The cost is about $6 dollars a week. I use the Coban bandages. I wear neon ones at home, and have beige ones for work. It's not just other people... I hate looking at it too. So, I cover it. Ask yourself if your own scarring really warrants wearing bandages daily.

Oh, adding to what I said. The bandages aren't reusable whether they're self-adhesive or not. I spend about $25 a month on the bandages. A bottle of foundation made to cover tattoos is $36. I was hoping to have my hair a nice lavender color by this weekend but the girl that was helping me do my hair had to go out of town.
I've done 2 bleachings with 40 vol developer and then 1 more bleaching with 30 vol developer.

Pic related is the current color of my hair. I've been using purple shampoo in between bleachings but it's still pretty brassy but it is also much lighter than when I started this process. It's also pretty frail now but I've also used some olaplex which has helped with less breakage.

So I'm wondering if it would be a bad idea to do a purple shampoo treatment as it's only been one week since the last time I did the bleaching with 30 vol. Should I hold off on that since it can make your hair more dry?

Also, should I just attempt to put in the lavender or do you think it wouldn't take because it's still not light enough?

How bad would it be to do the purple shampoo today and then put in the lavender tomorrow?

>> No.10151961

>>10151957
That's way too dark for any pastel color. It needs another to be bleached 1-2 more times to get to be light enough. Before toning, you hair has to be light blonde, and your hair is medium blonde right now. Purple shampoo is for maintaining ash blonde, it's not a toner.
You can try dying it now, but it's going to be medium purple, not lavender. You could bleach it again, but I don't recommend it.

In general you will have to bleach again to light blonde, so that it'll be light enough to be lavender.
Purple shampoo, is for maintaining blonde hair, and is not a toner for brassy hair. You're not supposed to use it often either as it is very drying on hair.
If you want lavender hair by this weekend, you have to bleach it again to light blonde, tone it to remove brassiness, and then dye it.
I don't recommend it, because you're hair will likely break off after the additional bleach.

I agree with this anon>>10151961. Be patient and keep moisturizing your hair. In a week you can lightly bleach again. After bleaching, deep condition. Give yourself a few more days then use a toner on your hair to remove the brassines. Try one of the Wella brand toners like T14 or T18. You can mix an additive into your toner such 050 Cooling Violet.

If you're a U.S. anon, wait 24 hours before dying. Bleach it with a lower peroxide like 20-30 depending on whether or not that's hair dye residue. Just be patient, and cover it. You can reapply more if it starts to dry out. Wash it out once it's evenly a light yellow to pale yellow, and try One & Only Argan Oil conditioning toner in Ash. It's a hair mask. I like Wella's too, but it uses peroxide. You can then use Arctic Fox's Girls Night Out. Leave it it overnight. I've had mixed results with other lavenders.

>>10152942
To start with, don't starve yourself and try to get in at least half an hour of exercise per day (ideally a combination of cardio and resistance-based) and eat around 1200kcal/day - you need to commit to this over a period of weeks to months as this is much better for your body than doing something like starving yourself which tends to fuck up your hair, skin and hormones. Keep your protein and fat intake high enough to meet your minimum daily requirements and take a multivitamin. I aim for a minimum of 1g per kg of protein, 0.5g/kg of fat and the rest carbohydrates from non-refined sources. So what that looks like in practice is no bread, rice, noodles or pasta, lots of chicken, eggs and white fish with leafy green salads or steamed/stir fried vegetables, making my own dressings and monitoring how much oil I put in. Stir fry is pretty much a staple but instead of drowning it in oil and sauce, I use a non stick pan, spray on oil, garlic and ginger and a small amount of onions and sesame oil. It's very easy to NOT eat enough protein when you're trying to calorie restrict and 'eat healthy', since you get more volume from a giant salad than a chicken breast, but protein is vital for muscles and things like your hair and skin. Egg white omelettes with a ton of spinach and a small amount of parmesan are good for getting the protein in and still being delicious.
If I'm not exercising, I tend to go down to 1000cal which is okay for me (short, 50kg, sedentary job and in my late 20s so I have a lower metabolic rate than I did in my late teens) but that means no nuts and red meat and I always take a multivitamin if I'm cutting down that much

Dealing with sebum issues caused by androgen hormones is difficult as you'll be adding the testosterone to your female hormones and then dealing with all the others that are produced by your adrenal glands and sub-cutaneous fat.

As long as you are increasing your androgen count, you will have to deal with hormonal acne. The only way to reduce hormonal acne is to reduce the circulation of androgens, which is why birth-control pills are a effective option for women (Gotta have the estrogen and progestin for it to be effective).

Here are options
-General skin care: Anything made for oily skin and then adjust as your testosterone usage changes.

-Over the counter medications for the acne only help with 3 causes: bacteria, breaking down sebum in pores and increasing skin cell turnover which results in very dry, thinning, sun-sensitive skin.

-Prescription medications will be limited as FTM means that options for hormonal acne control measures like birth control pills and spironolactone which are only suitable for women. Sure you could take them and seriously fuck over your liver and undo all the effects that the testosterone have had on your body.

Only option on script is Accutane but that is a high strength retinoid related to Vit A that works to breakdown sebum and increase skin cell turn-over. It does not reduce the amount of sebum being produced in relation to hormonal changes, only in conjunction with bacteria, fungal and inflammation in the skin. It is also has an effect on your liver cells and their function so any other medications you're taking will need to be considered for their liver metabolism and hepatotoxins effects.

>>tl:dr your skin cannot escape it's acne fate unless that acne is caused by poor hygiene and bacteria. Go talk to a professional about it.

I started with alpha skincare 0.15% retinol. The reviews on it seemed good and I personally got some shedding and then noticeably smoother skin from it so I'm assuming it's at least a little effective as a babby's first retinol.

I've been trying the elizavecca retinol cream and I don't know its long term effectiveness but it ended up being a little too much when I was using it daily (more skin shedding and then dryness and sensitivity), and now I'm trying to acclimate to it more gradually

It depends how you heal and whether you are prone to scar. My understanding is frequently the pigmentation is deeper compared with something like PIH so the laser will be hitting more tissue = more likely to scar.
So... if you ended up with a scar the same size as your mole would you be happy with that result? If not, don't do it.

I'm very late to the birth-control pill party, but I'm planning on seeing a doctor to get started. I know it's probably different for everyone, and it probably also depends on what kind of birth-control you're using, but does anyone have a general timeline for how my skin will probably progress? I have a con in a couple of months, and I'm worried about the initial flare-up happening during the con. Does it take a long time for your skin to clear up at first?

I have a cystic zit by my mouth that's so deep, I can feel the bump inside my mouth with my tongue. It was very painful the other day and is slowly going down, but the deepness is concerning to me.

Birth control is very individual and it depends which type you are started on. Most people start on the combined pill rather than the mini pill, but if your doctor says you need the mini pill it has a much higher chance of causing breakouts. Some people have no effects, some break out more, some have their acne clear up really well. Unfortunately, the combined pill did nothing for my skin and it wasn't until accutane that it really sorted itself out.

If you can, I'd really urge you to go for an IUD as opposed to pill BC. Pretty sure your moisturizer counts as a cream in this case. The retinoid is supposed to be used PM and usually, people roll with something occlusive for PM, like an oil/night cream, and a moisturizer in AM, like the day cream, but the day cream is still occlusive.

If you're in doubt, just check the contents of the moisturizer. If it has oils (that aren't just there for the sake of perfume or so), then use it after the retinoid.

whenever I wanted a successful pastel, the only thing that ever ever truly worked was bleaching once or twice heavy(40 volume), to a blonde almost as light as what you have, then immediately dyeing a dark version of the desired pastel - a full rich purple, or rich blue, or hot pink - immediately, before shampooing or any kind of treatment; like bleach, gently dry, apply dye;

then, a couple of days or a week later, one more bleaching with a 30 volume all over for 15 minutes. That always left me with a really really permanent very light and bright pastel.

But you already bleached your hair three times, wouldn't do it again now.

your hair looks like mine! I agree with other anon - you are washing too often, with something a bit too harsh. Also with type 2a/2b hair like that, you will want to dry it slowly. Wrap it to dry in something like silky polyester. It will help immensely with that dry static-y frayed look.

Go to a makeup store and ask to be matched for a foundation. Ask which primers they’d recommend for your skin type and that foundation. Those are the two things I’d personally say to splurge on good quality if nothing else because it will stay on longer than lesser quality brands (although, this really matters to me as I’m athletic and from a very hot and humid area so both those factors will melt your makeup fast). Ask if they can show you how to apply them. If you have very dark circles or blemishes you may want to ask about concealer too.
As long as you have foundation application down, I feel like other things like blush and eye makeup can be learned fairly easily (and with some practice) from online tutorials on YouTube or blogs. Just have fun testing things out whenever you have some free time. Makeup washes off, it’s ok if you mess up.
Any more specific questions you can always come back and ask here!

I have quite some uneven acne scarred skin from acne in my teens (dumbass), it's especially noticeable in sunlight/strong lights. It could be worse, but it still affects me.

What can I do about it other than professional stuff like laser treatments? I've heard about dermarolling, but I also heard it's not safe to do at home... should I give it a try?
