fri was pretty calm. comicpalooza is getting ready for emilia. lots of hot girls and lots of cops. started to hear from guests that many of the volunteers really don't know what they're doing.

They got me, paid $100 for that stupid ass plus upgrade because I’m not going to stand in any lines for my goddamn badge. I’m only going because I had already made concrete plans but unless they move somewhere else next year or lower their damn prices I won’t be back.

they really need to crank that ac. i was just in denim jeans and shirt and it felt humid and warm.
of course the plus side a lot of titty flesh was glistening.

there were people out in the front hall (lobby) just sitting down looking exhausted.

i could just imagine the heat all those cosplayers must've been feeling.

also the parking garage was filled up by 10am (the one on polk next to grb).

Akon is good for cosplay usually, but that is a little up in the air after this year's weird situation. Bonus, usually they have good concerts. I am meh on this years bands, though.
Afest usually has good industry guests and a more chill atmosphere. To the point it can be a little dead in the party area, but if that doesn't bother you there is good cosplay.
Don't bother with ANT unless you are into that idol stuff. Really expensive and not much to do.
Ikkicon was fun, but I am from Dallas and have mixed feelings on if it is worth traveling in for. I would say it is worth it if you live in that area.

That's extremely rare and those events weren't solely Lolita (in case OP's looking for a Lolita heavy comm), but were open to a more general j-fashion crowd. One of the events was really part of a Okashicon J-fashion float for a parade to advertise for the convention. It's not a dead comm, but if it's not ILD or their Valentine's meet, the actual Lolita meets tend to be scarce and low in attendance. The comm tends to be older and the mods are pretty hands-off.

I didn't always agree with what panels were chosen, but at least it was organized and panelists knew in advance if they were accepted. Day passes are pretty cheap, has anyone been before? Would they recommend? I'm local so the whole ordeal seems like it'd be worth it, but by the same token if I have no intention of doing stuff like BYOC and just want to be there to do my [nospoilersoncgl]first con[/nospoilersoncgl] so I can just get a feel for what they're really like. As such, should I worry about not getting the whole "con experience" or will it still be pretty comparable to others? (There's still an alley, cosplay competition, etc.)

I haven't seen any talk about dreamhack on /cgl/ at all so I don't know much about it.

Because it's more of an esports tournament, like a giant LAN party of different games. If you're not doing any gaming or watching any tournaments I'd imagine there wouldn't be a whole lot to do. There will probably be cosplayers but not as much as a normal con, and they have an artist alley but I don't think they have a proper dealers room where you can buy all the usual goodies like figures, manga, etc. Try looking at videos on youtube to get a vibe of how it goes.

I think most people were waitlisted because of the automatic acceptance send out overwhelming the programming team. A-Kon has never been discriminatory towards meh panels in the first place and it looks like they brought back in character panels. I think they’re cancer but apparently lots of people complained about them being removed. I did see some people in the Facebook group complaining they got rejected so not everyone got in at least?

Fort Worth has NOTHING. At least as far as I know. The only cons we have ever had have been ANT, Yulecon, and A-kon and all of them have either moved away or aren't around anymore. Every cosplayer I know in Fort Worth (me included) has to drive out at least to Dallas, which isn't a huge deal, but it is a lot more convenient if we have some cons of our own.

I know people hated it but as someone who doesn’t attend a lot of programming, especially the kind they had at the outlying hotels, I felt like it was very convenient. Plus free parking on the weekends.

Personally, I'm super excited to have a con back in Ft Worth, and I'm from Dallas. I really loved the location, and I'm gladly going to replace my yearly A-kon trip with this con instead. Already even got my ticket!

Long Answer : Yes, there are people going, and they seem to have decent acts from what I can see, but they are highly controversial and while most of the people going may not look into it that deep, the runners are the type of people who chain closed a fire exit so people couldn't sneak in without badges.
