Think I'm going to have to pass. I really dont want to pay $100 to eat shitty sandwiches. Plus too hot. I'll just go to a cute spot with my boyfriend instead since I really only care about lolita not the other crap there.

I bought one before the announcement, so not technically. I'm still going, but it'll be only in shirts/open shirt costumes and sun screen. Also, protein bars instead of shitty food. Just have to have them not melt.

Was really disappointed by the hotel-situation. I still plan on getting a badge just to check out a-kon this year, but no hotel for me. I just wanna cosplay and have a good time.. Sad about not being able to have a hotel party, but I'm gonna go ahead and check out the after-hours stuff going on. Just gonna set my expectations as low as possible to avoid being too disappointed.

>Did A-Kon convince any gulls to buy a badge since the location announcement? What made you change your mind?
Nope. Im not putting up with the hotel situation and the fact that none of the after-hours stuff is in any of the hotels. That plus the heat and long walks that are going to severely limit what costumes I would have worm had I gone.

I'm gonna sit this one out and hope they get a better venue next year.

I gave up on trying to get a refund from A-kon... I'm just gonna do a bank charge back. AM just announced Apink, and the concert is included with the badge... I'm seriously considering going to that instead.

They got me, paid $100 for that stupid ass plus upgrade because I’m not going to stand in any lines for my goddamn badge. I’m only going because I had already made concrete plans but unless they move somewhere else next year or lower their damn prices I won’t be back.

they really need to crank that ac. i was just in denim jeans and shirt and it felt humid and warm.
of course the plus side a lot of titty flesh was glistening.

there were people out in the front hall (lobby) just sitting down looking exhausted.

i could just imagine the heat all those cosplayers must've been feeling.

most cosplays this year are:
denku (my hero academia)
ochako (school uniform/superhero outfit)
various incarnations of spiderman/
spider gwen (saw a couple anti venom gwen and 2 gwen carnage)
lots of midnight (by very hot girls).
lots of lebowski thors.

also the parking garage was filled up by 10am (the one on polk next to grb).

Afest usually has good industry guests and a more chill atmosphere. To the point it can be a little dead in the party area, but if that doesn't bother you there is good cosplay.
Don't bother with ANT unless you are into that idol stuff. Really expensive and not much to do.

That's extremely rare and those events weren't solely Lolita (in case OP's looking for a Lolita heavy comm), but were open to a more general j-fashion crowd. One of the events was really part of a Okashicon J-fashion float for a parade to advertise for the convention. It's not a dead comm, but if it's not ILD or their Valentine's meet, the actual Lolita meets tend to be scarce and low in attendance. The comm tends to be older and the mods are pretty hands-off.

Hey gulls I just found out about Dreamhack Dallas
Day passes are pretty cheap, has anyone been before? Would they recommend? I'm local so the whole ordeal seems like it'd be worth it, but by the same token if I have no intention of doing stuff like BYOC and just want to be there to do my [nospoilersoncgl]first con[/nospoilersoncgl] so I can just get a feel for what they're really like. As such, should I worry about not getting the whole "con experience" or will it still be pretty comparable to others? (There's still an alley, cosplay competition, etc.)

I haven't seen any talk about dreamhack on /cgl/ at all so I don't know much about it.

Because it's more of an esports tournament, like a giant LAN party of different games. If you're not doing any gaming or watching any tournaments I'd imagine there wouldn't be a whole lot to do. There will probably be cosplayers but not as much as a normal con, and they have an artist alley but I don't think they have a proper dealers room where you can buy all the usual goodies like figures, manga, etc. Try looking at videos on youtube to get a vibe of how it goes.

Going by people posting about their panels gives me more than enough evidence there's been little to no quality control. I mean the person with the fugly dog they force cosplay on got their panel accepted. It's literally a panel to show off their dog that they think has a shit tonight followers. Not to mention said dog is not a service dog but got into the con anyway.

Anyhow yeah, it was super competitive for all. >>10182163
Unfortunately this guy is wrong about novice being maybe alright because last year in novice there was a guy who did an overwatch costume, the scraggly explosive dude, who even did the voice and looked pretty much exactly like him. So, basically Anime NYC saw an opportunity with A-kon leaving Fort Worth and swooped in with starting this new con next year. A $750 table

>>10194256
Yeah dude, that one picture beats actually being there. Believe what you want, I even said it’s closer to 25k and that I’m not seeing everyone. The main room is huge and spread out so there is never big crowds and a ton of people hang out on the second and third floor.

Lines for bigger events can get pretty long last time I went, although you can still hear and stuff even in the back. Downtown Austin has decent food if you know where to go. It will be almost certainly hot as fuck. Just stay hydrated, especially if youll be outside a lot, and plan for what you want to go to.

Never been to AM and don't have a stake in their drama, but that is one spacious hall. Just look at the huge gaps between booths. There's no reason for people to congregate there, so of course it's going to look empty.

Why the fuck are people shilling this hard for such an awful convention?

The anons shilling it are probably the stakeholders.

Yeah, right. My friends in the gaming community said it's dead af, the game room is a joke (and closes when the main hall does, wtf), the only things worth seeing are the cosplayers and the cars. No good panels, no celebs worth interaction. Practically zero fashion. And the reason the city hasn't bought it yet is the attendance numbers issue. If the CoH isn't getting accurate attendance info, no one is, least of all this board.

LOL you mean John said the producer canceled and then IA also said yes we canceled because they couldn't be assed to provide the proper equipment?

This had nothing to do with accusations against John, this is all about how every year they fail to provide what they promise because they're piss poor at planning and managing their shit.

Anime Matsuri estimated attendance according to the GRB is actually 24k instead of the 40k that they've been quoting https://twitter.com/MichaelToole/status/1140265103142596613

Don't bring community vendettas onto this board. Singling out individual cosplayers for the purposes of trolling them will not be tolerated.
