Korean skin care and k-beauty is becoming a lot more accessible here in the west these days huh? I remember back in 2015 it was damn near impossible to get stuff like sheet masks and air cushions in brick and mortar stores in America but it's everywhere now.
Anyways, I'm starting isotretinoin (accutane) soon. My natural skin type is oily and I know it's gonna dry out. Has anyone tried the Hado Labo Gokujyun lotion and liked it? I've heard it's the most moisturizing lotion on the Japanese, if not all, markets. I remember a full a few years ago disappointed that it felt sticky and glue-like though

I'm using this hyaluronic acid serum day & night, retinol+ceramide nighttime and spf moisturizer daytime. Basic mild cleaner, toner and moisturizer to complete regimen. Main concern is skin texture. When would be the best time to incorporate c-vitamin? Every other night instead of retinol? Or during the day? Should I try to get some topical e-vitamin in too? Serums? Or in other products?

Here you go. Quick summary;
The objective of the present study is to investigate the effects of CPs from bovine bone on skin aging based on the chronologically aged model. Bovine bone was employed as a raw material to prepare different CPs using Alcalase and collagenase. Then, the effects of CPs from bovine bone on chronologically aged skin were investigated in chronologically aged mice by analyzing the skin histology, skin components and antioxidative indicators. The results showed that oral administration of CPs from bovine bone has beneficial effects on chronologically aged skin by improving the skin laxity, but it had no on moisture retention of skin. CPs prepared by Alcalase performed better than CPs prepared by collagenase.

In summary, the present study demonstrated oral administration of collagen peptides from bovine bone could improve the laxity of chronologically aged skin by increasing skin collagen content and ratio of type I to type III collagen, but it had no effect on moisture retention of skin. The beneficial effects of collagen peptides prepared by Alcalase (ACP) were slightly better than those of collagen peptides prepared by collagenase (CCP). Another action mechanism underlying the beneficial effects on aged skin of collagen peptides may be involved in increasing the antioxidant properties in the body. Proline intake also improved the laxity of chronologically aged skin but it did not affect the skin antioxidant capacity. These results suggest that collagen peptides from bovine bone and proline are potential dietary supplements for use against skin aging in chronologically aged process.

Also sugaring is so fucking cheap. Its two, three ingredients tops and all you need to make it is a pot and a candy thermometer. Water sugar and lemon juice(optional). The ratio I use is for every two cups of sugar you need 1/2 cup of liquid. Cook the sugar and liquid until it reaches the hardball stage on the candy thermometer(121 – 130 C (250 – 266 F.))

After that let it cool because you don't want to burn yourself. Don't be a fucking idiot pay attention to the temperature keep the candy thermometer in if you have to. It can be used for strip waxing(I just cut up a clean cotton shirts for my strips and these can be washed and reused or thrown away) when its on the warmer side and hard non-strip waxing when its on the cooler side(however this takes getting used to because its much trickier to do than a hard wax).

My rec is learn to make your own product so you know what you are putting on your face and you can also adjust the ratio of ingredients or add other goodies (royal jelly is great to spike your diy crwams with for example) to suit your skin best.

Why does it need to be bulk? You don't need a lot. I do know a good source for cold press rose hip oil however, since I use it as a carrier oil (unlike olive oil rose hip oil is very light and allows your skin to breath and wont clog pores plus high in vitamin c which is vital for collagen) I like to have that in bulk along with beeswax.

Gelatin is not a base, there is only a tsp in my recipe. The gelatin aids a little thickening, but more importantly its full of collagen. Rose hip oil and the beeswax make up the bulk aka base. Rose hip oil is light, lets your pores breath and is high in vitamin C Beeswax retains moisture and makes the oil into a thicker cream. The Carrot oil is for vitamin A, pumpkin seed oil for vitamin E and omega fatty acids.

I'm looking into starting on retinoid, I'm in my mid-20s and have acne-prone skin.
My routine has been cleansing with the COSRX low ph good morning gel, toning with Naturie's hatomugi skin conditioner, Tiam's Vit C serum and then moisturizing with COSRX nourishing rice spa mask (I know its supposed to be night cream but it feels so nice on my skin). At night I use the CORX BHA.

My acne has calmed a lot, once in a while I get a breakout, which are mostly a couple difficult-to-get-rid-of pimples. However, I cant seem to get rid of the irregular texture and am starting to obcess over the fine lines I'm getting on my nasolabial folds.

What would you recommend as a good starting point for retinol? Any other products you'd recommend?
Preferably that don't break bank, as I'm currently job hunting but if something is super good, I can consider shelling out a bit.

Thank you in advance!

I wouldn't worry about the loose skin, a lot of people who report this go ham on losing weight - they go from the worst eating habits and being sedentary to eating celery and doing more than their body can usually handle out of the gate, and their skin can't keep up so it becomes loose and their faces look gaunt. This is exactly what happened to my brothers girlfriend and while she did an amazing job in losing a lot of weight, she wasn't able to maintain this routine and even put some back on.

I've learned from her mistake and I'm doing this slowly. It sucks because you want the results right now and it keeps you motivated but it's better on your body to make gradual changes. Phase out your bad eating habits so you don't fall off the wagon, let yourself have a cheat meal or a treat every now and again.

I started off with a summer sculpt program which has done a decent amount of toning and I'm definitely stronger which ended yesterday. The numbers on the scale haven't dropped but I feel and look very different. I'm going to keep elements of it up but now switch to doing cardio to start losing the weight now that I'll most likely be able to do the whole video without feeling like I'm about to die.

Remember, you don't have to be in pain to be getting a good workout. I never had the next-day burn with the program I was on before and remember this has to be something that can last and you can maintain, this isn't a quick fix.

I don't use either. I have a soft fluffy face cloth that I use to gently (emphasis on gently) buff away my cleanser once its on and follow up with rinsing off the rest with my hands and water. I switch it out and make sure it gets washed frequently too so I'm not just shoving all of the filth back on.

Up until a few months ago I had horribly dry skin which would flake and peel, and while I tried scrubs (and stopped for the same reason as you) they never made much of a difference. So that with the addition of basic skincare I now have it completely under control.

You just need to find products that are safe for your face, I buy all mine but you might be able to look up tutorials for more face friendly scrubs. I use The Ordinary's retinol in squalane. Cheap and effective - $5.30 for 30ml.
I started with the 0.2% to get my skin adjusted and once I've finally finished this bottle I'm going to move up to 0.5%.
Keep at it with the vitamin C serum as well, alongside retinol it's one of the best-proven anti-aging ingredients. Use your vit C in the morning, then retinol at night, and make sure you're using a high PA sunscreen for the face, neck, and hands. (Especially with using retinol, it will make your skin more susceptible to sun damage.)
Make sure to avoid applying exfoliants (BHA or AHA) and retinol to your neck, eye, and hand areas. Those areas do not have oil glands and will end up dried out by those products, thus aging more.
If your skin feels rough or dull, it's worthwhile to do a weekly treatment of AHA exfoliation. CosRX makes a great AHA. I've also used an oil cleanser (Kumano Pharmaact) to the same effect.

Shift focus. Focus on panning all your products, ie- finishing everything to the last drop. the hashtag is #panporn, you're gonna slow down naturally when you realise it'll take you three months to finish up the current bottle you're on before you can post #panporn, so it doesn't make sense to buy three new bottles in the meantime because you'l never be able to pan that many before they hit expiry date.

Go through your stash and dig out the bottles of stuff you didn't like and repurpose them, usually lotions, scrubs, cleansers can be used on the body instead. If anything is too old, seperated, or just super, super bad, toss it out.

Also helps if you start writing down notes, reviews, or keep a beauty diary -- you'll consume things slower and more thoughtfully if you figure out what kind of products do better for your skin, which brands seem to do nothing, and if you find your holy grail you can pretty much stop buying other brands because most of them won't even work as well.

Diet is really nine-tenths of the law and the long term solution. I suggest replacing most of you meals with eggs or tomatoes for an extended period of time. That's how I lost my weight, they all really low calorie for how much food you get out of them and the can do them up in different ways. Intermittent fasting has helped some of my co-workers as well.

I’m exactly halfway to my goal weight (down 30 lb, 30 to go) and 90% of it is just watching what you eat. I don’t do keto and I’ve ordered McD’s three times this week out of laziness, but my weight consistently goes down over time because I stick to a rough calorie limit.

I was literally to lazy to keep properly counting (home cook without a scale) or keep up on exercise (workout partner moved too far to keep up with) and I’ve never regained any weight at all. It’s just being mindful about intake. Try eating slower if you shovel your food in like a starving dog, you probably frequently overeat and don’t realize because your body figures out it’s full too late.

I don't eat too little. I get about 1500-2000 cals a day, but I'm running in ketosis, so it's mostly fat and a bit of protein, and a little carbs. it's definitely not my favorite way of eating, but once I get back down to where I want to be I can add more veggies and occasional fruits and stuff in, with more focus on protein and a bit of carbs with less fats. You just have to get ahold of yourself and stop overeating. if you aren't overeating then you won't gain it back.

>> No.10211975

Not that anon,

I eat about 1 meal per day, sometimes a very small meal for lunch (tuna, maybe some veg). Once your body is in that mode and you've dropped specific things from your diet such as sugars, excessive starchy carbs, you don't desire them. The key is not reintroducing them back into your diet after an extended fast. If you must eat them, saving them for special occasions when you do consume them is ideal, and then go back to your regular eating habits afterward.

Your body will get used to eating at a specific time of day and you will fill up faster even on less filling foods. So it's important to make sure you're eating nutrient-dense meals.

Also, if you are feeling hungry, you should in general, eat something. Not a pile of food, but keeping things around the house to curb hunger will help. I like cheese sticks, tuna, snap peas, hummus for a quick meal.

I don't count calories, and I don't intentionally restrict them. I'm more concerned with keeping insulin levels low. I've just fallen into these habits. I've lost 25lbs since April.

That's great to hear anon! I hope it works for you!
So retinol CAN be used in your eye area, but you just want to be very sparing and gentle with it. Since retinol can dry out and sensitize the skin, and your eye area doesn't have oil glands to re-moisturize itself, it can cause wrinkles and aging. So just make sure to be gentle, don't over-do it, and moisturize the area really well afterwards.
You can totally use AHA, BHA, and retinol as long as you're using them on different days and your skin is not too dried out! Your skin gets used to retinol over time and stops drying out, so I would do a trial period with your retinol, see how your skin responds, and continue with it until your skin calms down. (I personally haven't had any issues with the 0.2% however since it's such a low amount.)
In my routine I basically just swap out the nightly retinol for AHA or BHA once a week depending on my skin's needs. So my nightly routine would be like:
> Oil cleanser
> Cerave gel cleanser
> Retinol or AHA or BHA
> Moisturizers, serums, sleeping mask, etc.

The purpose of retinol is giving yourself chemical burns, honey. It can be a good chemical exfoliant for people with more resilient skin, but you're eroding your (already fragile) skin away and making it more susceptible to sun damage.

This isn't actually true. It irritates your skin and can make you flake the same way chemical exfoliants can, but this is more like vitamin e on steroids than that.
The issue is that your skin can only do so much with it if you're not acclimated and don't have receptors for it, so it just sits and reacts to the sun and air, breaking down on top of your skin.

I have, I used to be around 16 and am now up to 19. I also get full/uncomfortable easily so adding frequent small but calorific snacks into my meal plans helped a ton. Also don't underestimate how much drinks contribute to your intake, swapping water or tea out for soup and smoothies can be great.

If you do home cooking then adding milk powder into sauces or desserts is an easy way to increase the calories without changing the taste too much. Maybe experiment with protein powders too if they're more in your taste range, there are savoury ones out there that can fit into Asian home cooking if that's what you're into.

If you're strapped for time and/or don't make your own meals often, cheat mode is to take nutrition supplement drinks. A dietician might be able to prescribe you some, otherwise they're usually available in pharmacies. Seeing your doctor can't hurt either, in case you have some rare malabsorption condition or something.

Will look it up!

I've been given this advice before and it simply doesn't work because all of the items listed are very typical for a western diet and rare in Asian diets. None of the foods are comforting to me and I never eat them outside of having it show up in a restaurant menu item occasionally.

>>10221770
Milk powder would be difficult to work into cooking since I usually do onions sauce based dishes… Desserts are unknown to me. I usually just eat chips and Cheetos whenever I feel like it between meals. I did try the protein shakes and supplements once, it got expensive fast so I couldn't keep it up.

The same rules apply to you as they do to fatties. If you aren't willing to change your diet, your body won't change.

1% is wayyyyy too fucking much. My dermatologist put me on 0.025 for acne, and even with that I need to stay out of the sun. You need to take your lifestyle in to account when using retinol, stay out of the sun, period.

What should I do about my Fenty Beauty concealer looking a bit cakey? Is it because of my skin, because I use a liquid hydrating primer or because the product is this way in the first place? I also don't use the Fenty foundation because I have no idea what my shade is and even my concealer is a bit too light so I just know I'm between the 235 shade and the 255 shade. Is the foundation known to be cakey too on some people?

By the way the reason why I hesitate is my undertone. I just can't figure out if it's warm, yellow, olive, or neutral. I think I'm more yellow but some neutral undertones suits me sometimes. The reason why I ask about Fenty products is because I found my shade several times with other brands that are way more expensive and I hate the texture of MAC foundation. For example my foundation shade in one of the Nars foundation is Santa Fé.

I use the foundation and it's not cakey, but it is pretty heavy. The concealer was too heavy along with the foundation imo so I use Smashbox concealer instead. Ask the girls at Sephora or Ulta to match your shade.

>> No.10222174

>>10222156
I've had several people try to match me at Sephora and they matched me with way too many different shades and none of them was actually good. I think there are 50 shades now instead of 40 now that I think about it, maybe one of the new shades will be the one? There's no Ulta in my country but what's annoying with Sephora is that the lighting is shitty so I'm never sure and I used to buy things that looked like shit with a natural lighting/under the sun.

Then I would get samples from Sephora of every shade you think might work and try it on in natural light yourself

Like this hairstyle? I think it's less about how you cut the bangs and more how you part them, but I think Asians do cut their bangs differently than westerners do. I remember there was a great Google doc about it that I would see posted here sometimes, but I just looked for it and I can't find it!

>> No.10222346

My hair does that, but it’s because I went from side swept like #4 to bangs. You could probably achieve the look by using a hair straightener to define your part if your hair isn’t used to it.

It really comes down to how your hair lays. You can’t do much about the grain of your hair but you can blowdry them in the direction you want them to lay to help achieve the look

And 3 just says bangs/parts commonly used by AKB members

For those who have dry and sensitive skin, what do you use after taking off your makeup? I use miscellar cleansing water to take off my makeup but still feel a bit oily residue left over. I use an American facial cleanser and mango seed as my moisturizer. This is already part of my skin care and has worked for me so far.
I will admit I think i need more of a skin care routine.
Do I need another routine after taking off my makeup?
What other products can I use, in a budget for sensitive and dry skin?

Secret weight loss tip: eat a tablespoon of virgin coconut oil a day.

Adding calories to lose calories, friends. The reason being is that its a saturated fat (vs unsaturated fat). Saturated fats increase metabolism while unsaturated fats decrease metabolism. Some people have lost weight just adding a tbsp of coconut oil to their diet without cutting any calories.

You need to part it like that yourself when it's wet and let it dry like that. It's about the styling not the cut.

>>10227275
Your cleanser should take away the residue from your makeup remover. I use Banila Clean It Zero and then Cerave. If you feel like you need more of a skin care routine then think about heavier occlusives or serums.
