Old thread hit image limit >>10281032

This thread is for ouji and aristocrat (aka "boystyle") discussion. "Boystyle" is shorthand for "boystyle lolita" and refers to the masculine counterparts of Japanese lolita and, often, aristocrat fashions. There is a lot of overlap between these styles, and different people use different terms to describe them. We usually just use "ouji" here.

I like how happy it makes the lolitas at events. Oujis are rarer than lolitas, and oujis who actually dress okay are rarer still, so lolitas get really happy when you show up in a half-decent coord.

I moved into wearing sex pot revenge since I was getting a little tired of lolita and i was the person a thread or two back who asked for punk ouji inspo. I think I just want to make the dive fully now although I'm scared i'm not going to be able to look decent.

I started wearing casually a somewhat ouji look weekly some months ago around friends/school/family and only got positive feedbacks so far, though I think I could really use some concrit from actual lolitas since I still fell like a larping normie wearing more historical than japanese fashion, but I know none irl or online.
Is there a good place to dump a few pictures and get some crit, possibly more extended advice about hair/makeup ? Maybe an ouji dedicated discord would be nice if that exists. Otherwise I might try BSoLF, or even CoF if i can get a few good pictures.
I could also post here if /ouG/ can bear my shitty bathroom selfies, but I'm a bit wary of selfposting on 4chan.

>> No.10327637

I don't think selfposting is as harmful or whatever as people think, but this early in a thread it will be up here, up top for months with how slow this topic is. Something to consider. I wanted to do that, but I thought it might be a bit weird and intrusive to just ask someone I don't know about fashion advice. I'll send some dm on insta.

Here's an imgur link: / a / S0EEPlp if anyone wants to take a look.
Sorry for the quality, I'll try to enroll a friend to take a nicer full body pic if I find the time. I could use any general advice, but the main thing that bothers me is the lack of hair accessory. I don't find hats practical, so maybe a small bow/ribbon ? Though I feel like my hair could have enough volume to not need any. That's also pretty much my out of bed hair, so any styling suggestion is welcome.
Also I've never tried makeup, but it doesn't seem that mandatory for ouji compared to lolita. Some eyeliner and concealer wouldn't hurt I guess ?

You look great anon. Imo no makeup needed and I'm boring but your hair looks good as it is, styling tips would be hairstyles like link below and then bow/flower clips to your taste. I recommend IW bow clips. Personal taste nitpick: I think that knitted socks look better than tights-material for boystyle, it's more masculine, but it does exclude a lot of cool prints.

While we're on the topic of hair: I personally think ouji looks best with short hair, but I don't want to cut off or hide my long hair with wigs (at least, not yet). Are there any hairstyles that you all could recommend that aren't too feminine looking? (I once saw an ouji with twintails, for example, and it really didn't fit the ouji aesthetic.) Haru is an ouji character that you can date in CoCoPPaPlay's dating sim side game. he is the first fictional character i have seen that explicitly names his style as ouji kei. CCP Play is a modern fashion game, so unlike other characters in media that are sometimes seen as ouji style icons, Haru is not a "historic" character. he is just like the lolita character in the game (Momo) or the goth or rock-style characters: he is committed to his fashion style, and it's obviously based on IRL ouji.

sometimes it is difficult to judge whether old snaps are ouji or not, when they are not wearing ouji/lolita brands. there is crossover with schoolkid styles, punk, and gothic. velvet and lace help make this coord read as ouji to me, but at this point in the dump >>10335615 now seems more like regular punk or school punk rather than ouji.

For starters you're better off looking at the actual Japanese brands for basis and inspiration. Look at Atelier Boz, Moi Meme Moitie's EGA side, and a number of the other brands listed in the guides given at the top of the thread.
The huge issue with too much of the men's sizing side in the West in attempts at ouji and aristocrat fashions is that they take far too much of an 18th century menswear look, or normal formal attire. You're better off thinking more along the lines of Victorian gothic styling with a dash of Japanese glam rock. That gets you closer to the aesthetic.
Also for footwear honestly I'm not even a fan of seeing normie dress shoes with the style. I'd suggest looking at more of the smarter end of men's gothic footwear.

Inb4 tried that. Twice. The thing is that the branded ouG doesn't fit very well the western man. It sure looks great on woman or an asian man, but the bodyline doesnt look good at all on a western man imo. That is why the inspo instagrammers ive posted before doesnt use brand at all, and make their own. Also buttcape itself is a very old and outdated source.

I will try and look once more though. maybe i've missed something. Thanks.

About the footwear, i completely agree with you. But for man, its difficult to find shoes. I will try to get some custom made for me when the time or the money allows me.

Your reply actually comes across as rather rude desu. I wasn't saying to look at those brands as sources for where to shop necessarily, although they do fit some Western men, but as inspiration for how the fashion looks. Even if the tailoring doesn't fit getting an understanding of the aesthetics right first kind of helps.

As for the description I gave if you think those pictures you suggested look like that you're completely wrong.

Regarding footwear I suggested to look at Western gothic men's footwear brands. They are out there.

As you can see here Western men fitting into Atelier Boz. And much as i loathe mentioning it, AM have held Boz fashion shows with Western make models fitting in Boz and rocking it.

Western men tend to suit far better the more mature aristocrat look than the more cutesy and youthful end of ouji, which means far more feminine looking. The big issue here is that due to fit issues and trouble understanding the style properly defaulting to historical fashions outright just makes it not look right and just like historical costuming, which ouji isn't. Ouji is anachronistic. Btw I'm saying all this as someone is a historical reenactor.

>>10353308
unfortunately, yes, a lot of people associate youth with femininity. i think this is something ouji has the power to push against, as an alternative fashion. as lolita liberates femininity from cultural norms of "sex appeal", ouji can liberate masculinity from the norms of "bland old man in a serious suit".

i also think, as Japanese stores are now carrying chinese brands that originally took their labels from Western customers, words like "aristocrat" or even "kodona" may filter over into the Japanese side of the fashion. tag spammers on social media also may be accelerating this depressing feedback loop. but calling a macaron a "macaroon," no matter how commonly it is done, is still incorrect. we don't have to perpetuate the misnomers.

Christopher Nemeth has had a cult following in Japan since the 1990s. often, oldschool oujis or proto-oujis wore Christopher Nemeth in their coords. i believe Ryutaro of Plastic Tree was wearing Christopher Nemeth in the infamously misinterpreted "kodona" photo.

occasionally, the brand still releases some oujiable items. three-quarters-length trousers are a staple of the brand. these go up to 115cm hips in the largest (LL) size, and 92cm at the waist (compared with the 76-80cm waists of men's sizes for brands such as Boz).

Depends a lot on your specific body shape/quirks. I have a potato-shaped friend who always looked way better in pants than skirts, and she looks way better in ouji than either aristo or lolita. Also have an hourglass-shaped friend who always wore skirts because she has so much trouble finding pants that fit, and she looks way better in lolita than ouji or aristo.

Basically, if you already look better in pants than skirts, go ahead and give it a try. You'd probably want to avoid things like jabots that puff your chest up even more, that's about it.

If you're already having trouble with pants, though, or if you're an uncommon size and need everything custom made, you're going to have a pretty rough time -- it'll be harder for you to get an item made/found one in your size, and then when you get it in you're not even sure if it'll look good despite fitting into it.

If you don't already know what you look good in, it's better to get that sorted out, and then choose your jfashion style according to what flatters your body.

>> No.10354563

How uncomfortable is it to be an ouji currently? Is the fashion still hypocritically sexualized? Lolitas are fetishized by outsiders, but oujis used to endure it from within the community itself.

Is it still common for masculine oujis to get creepy attention from within the EGL community?

Furthermore, are weebs still using ouji as a way to live out their gross shotacon kink?

Don’t worry I am not planning to do anything tight/short/ero. But I am trying to figure out what would look good and not. I was thinking about making them in the style of AatP’s Schöne Rose von Schwestern Pants, but I am struggling with how I would coord it. Since I don’t think I want to make a vest/coat with the same fabrics, as it might be too leathery. I was thinking about maybe getting some inspiration from Vkei artists who wear leather pants, but they are often more Aristocrat if you know what I mean.

need help

Not new to the fashion because I’ve wanted to get into it since I was a teen but I was too poor. Now I’m an adult and I have the money but I’m fat. I’m steadily losing weight but I don’t want to try to squeeze myself into EGA and look disgusting and make a mockery of the fashion.

Any suggestions besides sticking to the weight loss?

Seconding learning to sew, there's some oujiable patterns from the big pattern brand's costume/formal sections that may go up to your size. Start with easy stuff and if you're unsure which fabrics are "good" and which are "bad" cotton corduroy and velvets are fool proof albeit a bit difficult to work with as a beginner

What are some core factors that make ouji different from lolita aside from just not wearing skirts?
I find that it's far easier to work nice "normie" items into ouji without looking super out of place, as well as accessories being generally fewer but each more significant to the overall look.

Modern ouji looks more like historical cosplay rather than its own fashion thing. It was much better when it was more closely related to visual kei and jpunk.

>> No.10360784

>>10360670
Like most menswear-related fashions, the devil is in the details. Lolita is more obvious with its silhouette, prints and matchiness - ouji can fall over VERY fast if you don't have enough of the details to make it its own style (see: retarded historic-anon upthread) and also has less examples to follow.

Keep working on your weight loss goals, anon! Good luck!

Even with the best tailoring, a lot of ouji looks just don't work well on an overweight frame. Puffy pants add 20 lbs visually, and the knee-length cut of most pants doesn't help in lengthening illusion.

Even if you can't learn to sew your own clothes (because this takes a long time and is EXPENSIVE), at least look for a good seamstress in your area to help tailor your clothes pieces.

>> No.10367687

The most important thing for glasses is to suit your unique face, so don't feel pressured to pick something that is less flattering on you just because it's more style-appropriate: it won't be worth it. With that out of the way, maybe small round glasses a la Ozzy or Hellsing?
