I really admire Misako because she doesn’t try to cover her age and is really upfront about it. That is a hugely brave thing to do in a culture where a woman is considered to be old at the age of 25 and has to be married with normie hobbies and job to be accepted in society. She also doesn’t try to change her fashion style just because men don’t like it - she recently openly stated that she will wait to meet a guy who accepts her as she is and won’t be changing her style in exchange for a husband.

Black hair often gets judge as “unpolished”, it’s not really acceptable in the fashion industry, that’s why Raimu was black hair was black hair model before when she’s the type of “Harajuku rebellion culture”, but now that she’s more mainstream she dyes her hair too. Met a full blooded Asian dude once who had naturally light brown hair. Got into trouble in high school as the headmaster immediately assumed he was dying his hair, until his mother showed up at school. Turns out his mother's line just somehow has lighter hair for no apparent reason. So.

Anyway. When red hair was starting to trend in like... 2000? Or so? It was praised for making a lot of Hong Kong/chinese girls look fairer (which was why it was trending. I may be mistaken about where the trend started from, in my small town the hairdressers said it's a trend with Hong Kong girls). So. She may have stuck with it for that.

Yes, I'm stupid for acknowledging Asians are not a phenotypic monolith when it comes to hair color. Misako dyes her hair cause it's cute and she likes it (hell, even the color name is something lolitas would find adorable) not to look white.

To assume otherwise or claim it's modeling industry culture makes little sense in regard to Misako when models like RinRin have dark hair (she may dye it darker since she does get streaks in it, or it may be naturally dark) and harajuku models typically deviate from normal Japanese beauty standards at least a little and are often unique looking/chosen because they like and wear the fashion, not because of their looks.
