hear me out. I think it's possible to get a good Lolita coord on Aliexpress. Here is my recipe:
1. Google images is your best friend. Search by image to avoid replica
2. Look at the material for the love of god. If there is polyester abort mission
3. Ingnore stars. Look at images posted as a review. Zoom in on that shit.
4. avoid patterns. Sewing shapes will most likely not be art theft however a lot of the time the pattened ones are.
5. Lolicals is best store
6. Any Bell skirt does not equal lolita
7. If the shop sells cosplay run
8. You could buy the main peice as brand elsewhere. Blouses, accesories and tea parties are usually decent
9. Just because it has a bow doesn't mean it's lolita
10. All things that sparkle are not gold.

I know I will get called jelly poorfag for this but does anyone else feel gross or sorry for someone that buys tons of brand all the time but still live with parents or room mates in their mid to late 20s and sometimes even older? I used to like lots of people with content and posts showing off what they buy but now it just screams loser who can’t be responsible. It makes their posts feel cheap to me like they are too engrossed with clothing to care about where their life is going. Am I the only one annoyed by lolitas who can’t stop sucking mommy’s teet?

you need to step away from social media - it's making you think too hard. go on there to enjoy the cute items, not to get caught up in the community drama. social media should be for fun, sharing creative photos, not for making you bitter at the world. that's how media sucks you in, outrage news. if you get upset at things that don't concern you, pretty soon you'll be in a pit of depression.

Nah I find it gross too. As someone that's turning 30 soon, younger people in the fashion (younger than 21) kind of weird me out in general. Like, you haven't even found your identity yet, how are you pouring hundreds of dollars into this fashion you'll probably throw away in a year?

I also don't really understand the whole "my boyfriend bought me lolita aww it's so sweet" thing. I guess that seems nice, but everything I want is swiped off CC/WW/Mercari/etc if you're not paying very close attention. It would be super stressful for my significant other to lurk on sites waiting to buy me a gift like that. I'm probably just jealous that the people who get lolita things as gifts want easy-to-buy/ready-to-buy items.

This. If you live near the capital you either have to be rich as hell or have connections to buy or rent something decent. Also you aren’t really expected to move out as soon as you can, if you’ve a good relationship with your family, don’t have a spouse and a need to commute long distances to work or school, you live in your family home.

I had something similar. I used to be jealous of young people who could hit multiple big cons a year until I shared a discord with a girl who splurged on multiple cons and bought a ton of merch but constantly bitched about not being able to afford rent or veterinary care and mooched off of people to make it up. Not that every frequent congoer or large wardrobe lolita is like that, plenty of them budget their finances to responsibly splurge on what they care about, but I do think that after a certain age it's good to start learning some financial responsibility.

Depends on the area. If you live somewhere expensive, its cheaper to buy an extra $300 dress a month than spend $1.5-2k a month on rent. Even if you save that 300 for the whole year that's only a few months rent, and it'd be better to just wait and improve your job situation

In my culture, it's pretty normal for girls to live with their families until marriage. It costs 2k per month to rent your own place and buying is out of the question if you aren't making 6 figures. I'd rather build my savings and help my parents pay their mortgage and bills than give up most of my income to some shitty landlord.

Why do care so much if some random lolita on your feed might not be financially responsible? Just unfollow people if you don't like their lifestyle choices.

Very american of you. In most cultures besides the US idea that you are 18 get out...most people stay with their parents for longer. There are whole familes that have multiple generations living together. Its normal for this to be the case and makes sense to share living expenses. Dont assume that everyone is mooching either, most adults living with their parents are sharing responsibilities or rent or both.

Really it is more financially responsible to stay at home as long as you can, you dont look better wasting money on rent to try to prove you are mature/an adult. Unless your job situation means you need to move away, it is stupid to rent anyways. And owning is crazy expensive in most big cities

Nayrt, but this is heavily pushed in America. Can you really blame us if it's been drilled into our heads since day 1?

Living with your parents == failure for us. So it makes sense why we view everyone else the same way. Just as you don't understand why it's such a big deal to still live with your parents at 25+, we don't understand how it's acceptable. America is all about "independence" and the strength of the "individual." This is one of the reason why I dislike being American. You can't really blame anon though.

I know my experiences are far from average, but I bought my first brand dress when I was 13 and I'm 21 now. My parents were supportive and helped me pick out and pay for the pieces of my first coord, which was all secondhand brand except I'm pretty sure the shoes were bodyline. I didn't have lots of other hobbies so they never complained about it being expensive and I almost exclusively bought secondhand. Once I got a job I could afford my clothes on my own anyway. I live in a big city in burgerland but my parents never believed in that "must move out, must be independent" nonsense so I'm going to a good local college and still live at home.
Again, I know my experiences aren't normal, but I'm sure I'm not the only one with supportive parents and consistent interests. Desu the whole "finding your identity" thing is really weird to me. You already are yourself lmao.

I agree with all the other anons who pointed out how staying with your parents can be a sound financial decision, and in my country it’s quite normal to live with your parents until you graduate university. However I also understand where you’re coming from. In my comm it’s really easy to tell which lolitas still live with their parents because of their attitude. Their parents do their laundry and get blamed for laundry mishaps. The parents do all the cooking and grocery shopping and get blamed for her weight problems. Sometimes the parents drive her to meetups and get the blame if she’s late. Any suggestion that maybe she do her own laundry, prepare her own meals or travel by herself is met with excuses. It’s so much easier to let her parents do everything, even if they do it wrong.

These are also the people who complain when their parents don’t get them the right gifts and make fun of ‘poorfags’ who would rather save for a rainy day than buy the newest AP release. They’re so used to their safety net that they have no idea what it’s like to live without one. I’ve never met a lolita who lived with her parents who wasn’t at least somewhat childish and entitled. Personally I didn’t move out until I was 23 and in hindsight, it really did change my priorities and made me much more responsible. I think moving out on your own (or with roommates/a partner) is a necessary part of emotional development for everyone whether you do it at 18 or 28.

I'm Latina too and I was kicked out at 18, but like you said I'm an anomaly. I tried moving back in with my mom when i was 22 and it did not work out for us. Now I'm living in a roomy 2 bedroom with my bf, granted i have some debt (car, school loans, etc.) but I'm happy and I can wear lolita without my family judging me for it. My parents are not supportive of my hobbies, but it's not like I live at home and have to worry about it. But it would have been nice if they were cool with me doing that and letting me save up some money and not have to resort to credit cards and loans

I don't have anything against people that have a good relationship with their family, enough to stay living at home. But I also think that they fall into two categories: wisely investing and saving up for something that helps them move forward in life (education, house, property, stonks, w/e), or they are leeches and have no clue how to save any money and waste it all on frivolous shit (trust me, i know plenty in both categories)

I can't help but feel like you are someone who is envious of other lolitas with bigger, nicer wardrobes than you, so you cope by thinking about how they MUST be below you for some other insignificant reason. People who live with their parents for a long time do have hopes and dreams. Parents just help them find their footing, help them save up, etc. Also living with parents doesn't mean that your parents do everything for you (although there are a lot of people who don't know how to cook/clean and are coddled-but living with parents doesn't 100 percent always mean someone is "sucking mommy's teet")

The government puts a ridiculous amount of pressure on small businesses with regulations even in the USA. Walmart is able to escape these restrictions because it runs overseas. Government needs to be more regulatory towards overseas issues, yes, but we don't need to have a socialist model to do that. Only absolutely necessary regulations that prevent destruction of competition and encourage a free market are needed.

Just to clarify. It's not that it's impossible to shop lolita on aliexpress. It's just inefficient.

Your other options are:
(a) use taobao. Although equal effort, it's cheaper.
(Bonus: being able to follow the original makers, so if you find the right brand shop they'll never make replicas and you never need to check)
Or,
(b) use taobao resellers. More expensive but cuts out almost all of the hard work.

Aliexpress is both more expensive and more work, not to mention less selection. It's not some secret treasure trove of undiscovered special snowflake lolita. Countless cheapskates before you already did the math and judged it useless. You might take a hint that the cheapskates already think using resellers is a waste of money but even they won't touch aliexpress because it's so inefficient.

Rectangular headdresses are the worst lolita headwear. They look stupid from the front they are flat and dont balance out the flyffy skirt and ornamented bodice

I genuinely like the look of Nymphet fashion when done right. The problem is that most people who post it are cringelords.

Agree. I'd like to start dressing more in the style but I don't want people to start assuming I'm the "wrong" type of lolita (I wear Lolita and Otome)

I like the look too but I'm rather petite and I don't think i'd be able to dress that way without looking like a literal child. I'm trying to go a little more mature and finding a balance between cottage-core/nymphet and office lady, which sounds more than a little strange now that I'm typing it out lol

The "Noli me tangere" belts were pretty dope IMO, because even though proceeds went to women's funds she didn't put anything explicitly about pussy power or whatever. I liked those belts.
