I ordered two overskirts from Glitter Tale on 4/12. They said it would take 35-55 days to make because of COVID. I sent a FB message to them over 24 hours ago asking for an update because it's been almost 60 days now and I've heard nothing.

What are other people's experiences with Glitter Tale? This is the first time I've ordered from them, but I'm annoyed now. I'm considering starting a Paypal claim. How many more days should I wait for them to respond?

>> No.10411781

My experience is that before Covid-19 they would state it takes 30 days to make the customized dress. That's to make it, only. That isn't waiting for them to order the fabric and shipping time to them, and whatever wait time they throw in for the hell of it. After over 30 days from order date, I received a notice that the print was out of stock, and I had to select a new print. Restart clock. It took 4 months to get my dress. It was absolutely off the measurements by 12 inches too big in the bust, waist was probably more than that. Absolute joke. Good luck Anon.

If you want to replicate a design from an existing piece for a handmade piece, for personal use, nobody will shank you. If it really worries you, shift up some small thing in the design in a way you like. Handmade is handmade, and as long as you don't try to sell them commercially it should be fine. If somebody is interested in the dress when it's done, redirect them to the original source. Not all of us are crazy enough to make our own dresses, but if you are good for you.

before I cared about Lolita, I would research about stuff like undertones, how I short people who want to look taller should avoid dresses/skirts because it cuts your legs in half and how I should stay away from pastels because I have olive skin (arab), and I felt like I didn't look good in pastels. Now I'm interested in Lolita fashion and want to get my first coordinate, however, I feel hesitant because I'm unsure if I should ignore the fashion theory stuff and I'm scared that I'll end up feeling ugly in Lolita- should I just admire Lolita from afar, or should I get my first coordinate (and if I end up not liking it, I can sell it secondhand)?

I would say just go for it. If you don't like it you can sell secondhand like you said. Here are the possibilities: you either end up loving how the dresses look and how you feel in them or you end up not liking it and selling it secondhand.

Anon, this fashion is made for you. Just look for dresses that would look good with your undertone. I'm white with
dirty blonde hair and wirey leg hair and eyebrows which means I look perpetually unshaved, that just means I went with classic lolita where I can wear burgundy stockings and the neutral colours bring out my face better.

I would like to start wearing lolita but I'm a bit lost on what first dress I should buy,
I sift through what style (classic) and color (mainly cream, brown, floral) I love the most, but I still have a dilema :

should I buy any bodyline dress that fit the color I like but I don't have accesories that match it.

or should I wait to get a hand brand dress that match brand accesories I already have ( navy headdress + socks ) but navy is harder to mix with the colors I mostly like.

I plan to buy white blouses and already have shoes that would match either of the two but I have no idea what to do about the accesories situation. Go up half a size and pad the shoes out with some insoles.

Don't bother with heels. A lot of lolita shoes are flat anyway, I'm not even sure why you think they need to be heels. Go for (small) platform shoes if you want some height. There's a sneaker thread on cgl at the moment, but I'd suggest it for casual sweet outfits only.

If you're gothic or classic you can usually get by with office shoes or some formal dress shoes from a normie brand.

Avoid simple flats at all costs. They're usually very thin and small, so it always looks strange when worn with a overly frilly poofy dress.

Anyone know of any good tutorials on how to cut bangs like pic related? I already trim my own bangs but I want to add in the longer side pieces. My hair dresser never really did those in my hair, presumably because it's not an American thing. Honestly, he looked pretty confused when I tried explaining it to him.

>> No.10414248

>>10414247
I kinda hope you want to look like Keanu.
But if you're looking at the bangs, you need to explain it as triangle bangs (there's a great diagram in the archive) that start from a single point on the scalp rather than being parted in the front. You can also show him pictures of a hime cut and explain it as "Cher bangs" if he doesn't get it. That's how I explained the hime cut to my hairdresser, and I got the results I wanted.
But as someone who has a hime cut, it's pretty easy to DIY the side bits as long as you already have the bangs. Just start longer and in smaller sections than you would expect and slowly work towards your desired look.

Oh, I don't mean a hime cut! (Those are shorter and more mid-cheek I think?) Just want the longer side pieces that so many Japanese women have. I do already have triangle bangs though! Just not the long side pieces.

I'll probably just try to DIY it and chop off little by little. It's just really nervewracking to cut hair more than a trim. I'm also trying not to work outside the triangle but I'm afraid I'm going to be stuck with hime bangs while the pieces grow out. Though it seems like Kyary has a pretty huge triangle on her head so I might have to make it wider.

Second hand brand for sure. Take it from someone who started off with Bodyline in my ita stage and graduated into brand. Also just learn to have patience. A lolita coord has a lot of pieces and you will never have everything immediately that matches a new dress. what people are referring to as 2010 is intense, sugary, pastel fever dream prints and nice, cotton fabric - milky planet, sugary carnival, merry making party, memorial cake, milky-chan the fawn, star night theater, etc.
modern is more toned-down and kinda low quality in comparison fabric-wise, ala horoscope carnival, chateau d'ecume, dream cat go round, fruity lemon, holy rosary, rose tea garden. basically everything recent but ice cream parlor.
people are just disenfranchised with AP's current direction and this almost exclusively refers to AP, baby and meta are still doing their thing.

There's no need to limit yourself at all, most lolitas don't stick to just one style. You do need to find some initial focus, though, or you'll just end up with a bunch of shit that doesn't match.

What helps for me is banning myself from buying a main piece until I've bought enough things to make a nice outfit with the last main piece I bought. Don't think of it as pigeonholing yourself, there's always time to make outfits in different styles later.

>> No.10417513

I used to be the same way in both lolita and normie fashion. I learned in lolita it was just too much to maintain. Enough accessories to make a different coord in a bunch of different sub styles/themes is just way way too much stuff and I lost my way. I just got overwhelmed and started buying a ton of different things and somehow still always seemed just one item short of the coord I wanted to make. I had to pare it down to a few capsules, if you want to call it that, that use a bunch of the same accessories and shoes. I have my pastel OTT sweet capsule, my navy/wine rosette capsule, and n old school capsule in black white & red. There are a few special dresses for holidays (Halloween and Christmas) but now it feels manageable. This bled over into my normie fashion too and now instead of having just one decent outfit in a bunch different alt fashions, I’m taking what I love about each and making it into a single cohesive wardrobe that has internal consistency and can be mixed & matched. It’s a work in progress.
I think the secret is learning to say “I like it, but I can appreciate it and not own it” and also to let go of the need to try to match my outer wardrobe with my exact inner state. Humans are too complex to make that realistically achievable without always feeling like you want more and need more to be happy and express yourself. Just find a lolita style that you think is cute and let you and your words express who you really are inside.
Hope it helps, I know my experience isn’t everyone’s
