Haven’t seen one of these in a while. Have you purposely increased a bid for chaotic entertainment? Or perhaps you sniped something from a friends wishlist?

Technically I agree, but the vast majority of lolitas simply don’t have the skill or eye for quality to DIY things tastefully so every time I hear “I could make that myself for cheaper!” I picture the fugly handmade monstrosities that people in my comm produce. The only people I know who have the skill to DIY something brand-level tend to be humble enough not to brag about how they could totally make everything for cheap. Dunning-Kruger effect in action?

>> No.10472207

Most of the time if you DIY something brand level it’s just not worth it. At least depending where you live. The girl who had brought it off me was new to lolita and very excited to have found a peice she liked that would fit as she was busty and this has good shirring. I repair bits for cash quite often with normal clothes so it was almost no trouble to repair this little hole.. but a seasoned lolita would have known and been mad. So for aesthetic cases only, it’s around 5k. Mine (F cup above) was completely covered by insurance because I was having severe back pain and migraines from disproportionate weight on my spinal column. If you talk to the plastic surgeon and tell him your symptoms, they can typically do an appeal to insurance and document medical necessity to knock the cost down for you. It just really depends on a case by case basis.

I think it's more important that a partner supports the interest by listening and being engaged, than simply throwing money at it. I would agree if it wasn't so hard to find headbows at least vaguely in the same color realm. I'm kind of minimalism so I would rather have 1 headbow that goes with three things, but it's not that easy. Just bought a new, plain headbow from AP I thought would match something and of course it doesn't remotely match lol.

Over the years I've removed a lot of small satin ribbon bows from mainly blouses and cutsews that imo either didn't have a flattering placement or made something a tad to sweet looking for me, specifically MmM items. I've bought a lot of items that I know are supposed to have these bows but previous owners had them removed so I'm not the only one. Even though I have a specific graveyard for detachable/removed bows/waistties etc from my brand some of these small bows wandered away and got lost among my fabric and notions. After a couple of years I've forgotten what items had these bows or not and grainy 2003 stock photos showing a black blob of a blouse aren't helping. Most of my wardrobe has since been sold off and replaced as my taste changed. The items which I did remembered and could find appropriate tiny MmM bows for got at least identical ones reattached before selling them, but I still now years later find tiny MmM bows among my notions.

I used to have a Melty Cream Donut replica that was pretty good, I'm sure if you stood next to someone in the real thing you could tell but on its own it was very convincing, the only thing it was missing was the AP tag. I bought it during the ita days and shortly after getting it I had my 'replicas are shit' realization. Anyways, I was at a general anime con and my friend had a spot at the swap meet and let me put out a few items on his table. I put out the replica because I no longer wanted it and wasn't sure of the best way to get rid of it, I had hung on to it for a while at that point. Some girl who looks about 15 in bodyline sees it and gets super excited. She asks how much it is and I intended to let it go for like 10$ because its a replica, but I don't know what came over me and I said 200$. She instantly agreed and handed me cash on the spot. On one hand, I feel bad because she obviously was new to the fashion and didn't know what to look out for, but on the other hand I had traveled out of state for the con so its not like I would ever run in to her again, and the fact that she was fairly young but instantly had 200$ to hand over to me without even thinking makes me believe she was at least somewhat well-off financially.
