I looked this up yesterday but it is also the same fabric as an older release of theirs called Maniera frill. Yes, not very breatheable, but it drapes decently and actually gives quite a royal vibe imo

Agreed that it hasn't been a great year for IW. Their releases haven't exactly kept up with the current trends and (I think) weren't popular with their current audience either. Then they also closed international sales for a period which probably hurt sales too.

Come to think of it, I don't see IW being mentioned much anymore in FB groups. I remember IW being recommended for tallitas, but now I see Meta, AtePie and MAM recommended more often.

Old IW also used chiffon though. Poly has been used for a while and doesn't in itself automatically mean shitty quality. Tons of 1930s and 1940s dresses are rayon for instance but give the piece a beautiful shape and drape.

Oh absolutely it will be polyester; I was just pointing out that it's "thin polyester" because it's chiffon rather than because it's poor quality (that being a main reason a lot of people avoid poly releases). Chiffon is almost exclusively synthetic these days because that way it's a lot more robust than when made with natural fibres (i.e. silk).

True, gothic lolitas also have it rough. Maybe it's because they're more intentional about finding other gothic lolitas/they're more likely to be lolitas into more than one substyle but for some reason I've seen more western gothic lolitas together in photos than classic. It could be more of an internal bias, though.

Partially related: what are people's thoughts on Alice and the Pirates? I feel as though some of their pieces are applicable to classic when styled correctly, but a lot of it gives the feel of "sweet prints and cuts but in brown".

I have some floral pieces like Time of the Roses that can give off a classic-ish feel when styled that way. I think that whole early 2010's era of AATP really lent itself to living in a weird inbetween space of sweet, gothic and classic.

AYRT, this makes me feel a little more sane. I've been spending too much time in the instagram tags and so much AATP is deemed classic (I know, tag spam, but still). I feel as though border prints never really caught on in classic like they did in sweet (and gothic, to a far milder degree). Even IW prints can swing classic or sweet depending on styling, it's hard to have purely classic border prints (that aren't florals).

I would say Grazia Crown (and probably most of their royal/crown prints in that vein like Crest Goblin) count as border prints that are primarily classic. Maybe even Palace Rose, I guess it depends on how wide of a print you'd still consider a border print.

OTT classic made me so frustrated for that exact reason. AATP gives me the "sweet but in jewel tones" vibe as well. Getting mad about substyle overlap is like splitting hairs, but it is disappointing when someone says they really like classic and then using something (imo) tacky as an example.

Yes, it happens pretty often. VM tends to match the fabric of their releases to the season, so you'll see more polyester and literal upholstery fabric around this time and more lightweight, breathable materials around summer.

It doesn’t. Some of the problem with the Himari skirt, at least with the original, is the ridiculously strong elastic. Even being nearly a good 10cm under the alleged max waist for it it’s a struggle to zip it up, simply due to how strong that elastic is. It’s a gorgeous skirt in person, photos don’t do it justice. But it’s really not an easy one to get to sit well. It was a common issue around then with their skirts. I can’t say anything for their more recent skirts, including the Himari rerelease.

I was a good 8 cm under the measurements for that chiffon flocky velvet print they released around that time (I forget the name) but it looked so terrible on me I resold it. On the other hand though I sort of feel like new VM is just so wearable.
