I know this is not classic but more of an every day wear but I stumbled upon an Innocent World Penguindrum collab which I never knew of. This is one of my favorite series and I always wanted Himari's outfit.

Cool, might get some stuff.

Agreed that it hasn't been a great year for IW. Their releases haven't exactly kept up with the current trends and (I think) weren't popular with their current audience either. Then they also closed international sales for a period which probably hurt sales too.

Come to think of it, I don't see IW being mentioned much anymore in FB groups. I remember IW being recommended for tallitas, but now I see Meta, AtePie and MAM recommended more often.

They used to do really nice "grown-up" (in my opinion) items as late as 2016, I think the issue is they've shifted more towards what VM does in terms of giving a polished, tailored look. IW, unfortunately, lacks the construction (those tube bodices) and material quality to pull it off.

I always wondered what made IW more 'cutesy' than the other brands even if they do straight up grandma wallpaper dresses like this, and the conclusion I've reached is their overall styling and not just the dress.

I've seen people put very elegant coords with IW and I've had to do a double take. Maijuline for instance had a lot of very elegant coords that made me want an IW dress for its elegance rather than its cuteness.

Old IW also used chiffon though. Poly has been used for a while and doesn't in itself automatically mean shitty quality. Tons of 1930s and 1940s dresses are rayon for instance but give the piece a beautiful shape and drape.

It could be more of an internal bias, though.

Partially related: what are people's thoughts on Alice and the Pirates? I feel as though some of their pieces are applicable to classic when styled correctly, but a lot of it gives the feel of "sweet prints and cuts but in brown".

>>10522695
Some of their pieces are classic, I would agree with that, but would also agree they lean sweet a lot. Like even their more gothic pieces are sweet but in black. AYRT, this makes me feel a little more sane. I've been spending too much time in the instagram tags and so much AATP is deemed classic (I know, tag spam, but still). I feel as though border prints never really caught on in classic like they did in sweet (and gothic, to a far milder degree). Even IW prints can swing classic or sweet depending on styling, it's hard to have purely classic border prints (that aren't florals).

>>10523145
These look so cute, but I wish the pink shoe was less bold.

>> No.10523205

>>10523203
I would say Grazia Crown (and probably most of their royal/crown prints in that vein like Crest Goblin) count as border prints that are primarily classic. Maybe even Palace Rose, I guess it depends on how wide of a print you'd still consider a border print.

Very weird for current lolitas to think AATP is classic, though. Even their OTT "classic" stuff was very sweet (imo the majority of the "OTT classic" trend had actually been just sweet in jeweltones or with rococo themes, though).

>> No.10523206

>>10523145
24 and 24.5 lol wtf why not just make typical L and then LL instead of the half cm difference.

>>10523007
The purple op is beautiful but like everything else it's 100++++ cm long. I hope that purple color way is used in more pieces in the future because it's absolutely gorgeous.

>> No.10523222

>>10523205
OTT classic made me so frustrated for that exact reason. AATP gives me the "sweet but in jewel tones" vibe as well. Getting mad about substyle overlap is like splitting hairs, but it is disappointing when someone says they really like classic and then using something (imo) tacky as an example.

(Not saying all of AATP is tacky, but I'm personally not a fan of the prints that are essentially "sweet but jewel toned/brown")

>> No.10523235

>>10523019
I'm actually digging this even with the high waist. I love toile like fabrics and the fact this is a cotton is making my heart go doki doki

>>10523222
Yeah, I mean I don't mind if it's one print but it's another thing when someone goes "I love classic" but all they have is AATP, BTSSB, and AP. They're usually also the same people who point at IW and go "isn't this, like, not lolita?" Absolutely maddening.

>> No.10523236

>>10523198
In all of these front button pieces there's weird gapping in the waist area. I'm not a fan. I think they're lacing the dresses too tightly or the construction is off. These are tiny girls and shouldn't be bursting the seams.

>> No.10523241

>>10523236
Probably waist ties are tied too tight, or else the dress would be hanging off of them. With a princess seam cut like this, I imagine it's hard for it to be tailored nicely to the bodice while having such a huge amount of skirt weighing it down.

>> No.10523242

>>10523235
Exactly! And usually there's a single, OTT MM release they point to that's on their "wishlist" but don't care enough to do the searching involved/won't fit into it even if they found it.

I agree, especially the sloped cut of the waistbands in a lot of their mid 2010's releases makes you look like you have a potbelly no matter what. I'm confused as to why the skirt sits like that because I don't think the Himari skirt actually has that cut.

>> No.10531421

>>10531412
It doesn’t. Some of the problem with the Himari skirt, at least with the original, is the ridiculously strong elastic. Even being nearly a good 10cm under the alleged max waist for it it’s a struggle to zip it up, simply due to how strong that elastic is. It’s a gorgeous skirt in person, photos don’t do it justice. But it’s really not an easy one to get to sit well. It was a common issue around then with their skirts. I can’t say anything for their more recent skirts, including the Himari rerelease.

>> No.10531425

>>10531421
ayrt- I have the too-strong elastic issue with some of my skirts as well, so that definitely explains it. I was a good 8 cm under the measurements for that chiffon flocky velvet print they released around that time (I forget the name) but it looked so terrible on me I resold it. Now that I think of it, it looked a little similar to this photo.

Finally, something I like! The earrings are very pretty, I'm thinking of grabbing them and maybe matching necklace in pink. Thank goodness the posts are titanium, I'm allergic to most cheap metals.

The question is do I want to go to the trouble of an SS for it as a murrican... I really wish IW was able to use DHL or Yamato.

I really need ems to come back to America, paying an SS more to pay for more expensive shipping is a pain in the ass.

She posted yesterday she'll be out of town of the 25th to the 27th, so she's out anyway if you want to use her for this release.

I just received my first rococo bouquet by VM and it's so beautiful I can't believe I didn't buy anything in this print before now. A bit tight in the chest cause I gained a couple lockdown pounds that went straight to my boobs, but it's nothing I'm not already working off. I want to go to a rococo bouquet army afternoon tea now

Wow... the other OP, too. I wonder why they're selling out so frequently lately, is it because they're doing much smaller runs after getting saddled with so many dresses previous years?

Mary Magdalene's Genoise coats have all arrived and they will begin shipping, according to their website.

At this rate we are getting 2 items a year. Can't they really not get their shit together and have regular releases again with multiple items that go together (dresses, headdresses, accessories, blouses) like it used to be? Is it so hard?

>> No.10549292

>>10549285
considering they are a hobby brand at best, I do think it is a lot to expect them to suddenly be able to do big releases after nothing for so long.

I much rather MM does it slowly and gets it done, or they may end up having to sacrifice quality for quantity.

>> No.10549323

I passed on the coat because I don't really need more. Praying that the next MM thing up for reserve won't be something with a 66cm waist because I'm old and flub

No they referenced before they're getting more orders than usual. I do think they found their niche which is older lolitas looking for more age appropriate pieces.

>>10547867
Ngl I'm a bit sad I missed this. I hope it doesn't become another regret dream dress.

This color is supposed to be mint chocolate - the collar is mint/sax I think (hard to tell) and the body is brown..

Is it just me or are the items from revival VM really boring for anyone else? I miss the beautiful details like the ones in lace up doll dress. This was the only nice recent release >>10518788, I want to give VM my money but I haven't found a hit yet.

>> No.10550053

>>10550040

I unironically like new VM but yeah I see your point. I also miss the overlay lace dresses with ruffles everywhere and rococo bouquet anything. On the other hand though I sort of feel like new VM is just so wearable. I've worn the check jsk the most of all my dresses this year for instance and actually would have worn it to a presentation meeting I gave if it weren't in the laundry. It's just very easy to combine with other items, plus the fabric is so soft.

Same. The designs are too plain.

>> No.10550139

>>10550053
Fair enough! I have a lot of older plain VM dresses I got secondhand, but the detailed stuff sells out so fast on CC and I wanted to support revival VM too.
Hoping for a few nice spring releases, I really regret missing out in the Valentines limited lace up doll dress when they did it years ago.

I guess so. Unfortunately that means I probably will never order a main piece release from them again. Surprised that older lolitas are willing to put up with that (low) level of quality.

>>10550040
I agree to some extent, but I did really like the summer releases, I bought the Florence OP. It's hit or miss, for me. But I do feel that there's more homogeny with cuts now, whereas you used to see a variety of shapes in each release, things like pic related.
