The fur on the upper part of the head and ears are unevenly shaven and the ears look like they have a patchy airbrush job. This is more of a nitpick but the color scheme is all wrong and looks noticeably worse than Raymond’s color scheme. It’s better than average, but that’s not saying much when the average is dragged down by the countless 14 year olds gluing two foot tall ears onto tiny raptor masks. The structure of the head is fine, but the maker seems to have neglected a lot of the basics of fur finishing work.

Magnetic mouths are inherently ugly looking because they quite literally look “tacked on.” It reminds me of those shitty handmade felt plushes you find at cons where the eyes and other details are hot glued on, it just looks cheap and not very cohesive. Swappable emotions on a fursuit is a fun, novel idea, but it rarely looks good because you’re usually slapping a 2d piece on top of a 3d form. And because it has to be removable, it never looks like it’s part of the head. It’s almost like it just floating awkwardly in front of it. I think the closest you can get to changing parts on a suit looking ok is with magnetic eyelids and eyebrows, but even then I personally think that they also look a bit strange for similar reasons.

Tl;dr this head is ugly even when you ignore the fucked up fur

Fuck off. If you're paying more than $1.5k for a partial or $2k for a full suit, barring you having a design that has a shit ton of colours or other special features, you're paying for the name, not the suit.
There's a goldilocks zone of "Knows their shit, but doesn't have an ego about it" with makers that can be a bitch to track down people in.

So fuck everyone who isn't in the low upper class and above "Have so much money I can burn multiple $1000's on $1000's for something that gets maybe a little less than 24hours of total use" income bracket, right? And don't give me the "Luxury good" bullshit, I'm not advocating actually genuinely 'affordable' fursuits (Hard, well under $1000 for a decent fullsuit) as it is genuinely a lot of work, and material to a certain degree, to make a fursuit.
But there's a world of difference between, say a gaming PC that you can use for a shit ton of other things that aren't strictly just gaming and you can get a lot of actual utility from because it's still a computer, and a costume that you get a few hours of use at a time from, typically at conventions or parties that only happen once in a blue moon. Unless we're the type to travel all over a given country or all over the world to use a costume constantly, in which case clearly money was no object for you to begin with. And on top of THAT, ignoring any current pandemic bullshit, guess how much a reasonably balanced high end gaming PC is? ~$1.5k-$2k.

Any rebuttal with "But living wage", I'm sorry to say but the range for reasonable price for what you're getting, and what you seem to deem in the range of "livable wage", simply do not line up. Like most art/craft based cottage industries, the massive influx of producers vs. the numbers of buyers that are capable of and willing to spend the money just doesn't line up. You don't see this because if you only look at the 'popular' makers where the 'tards are always wanting to buy from, you're going to see nothing but constant demand. For the rest of the market however, it's far closer to "I wish I could commission one, but they're so expensive." unless we're talking to someone where money is little object, or has shit handling of personal finances.

I mean the same goes for latex crafting. Catsuits from retailers and designers cost anywhere from 300-700 USD for a standard catsuit. Latex by the roll costs 9 bucks a meter which for my size if patterned correctly would come out to like 2m for a catsuit. Instead of complaining I'm just making it myself rather than paying a designer. Same shit goes for fursuits. Anyone can budget 1k and learn to make it themselves. Fursuit makers value their time and skill and with years of experience comes a higher price.

This isn't for me, I'm more than well capable of making my own shit, even if by my own admission my output won't ever be AS good as someone dedicated to it, as material and tools costs just don't add up doing it once or twice. It's for the larger group that would love to get one but because of the bullshit that is the "Work 70% of your existence away to live or fuck you" that is expected of 1st world countries, that the time and resource commitment to doing shit yourself is not practical (One time use tools add up fast!), and the amount of money made working said life away just doesn't add up to be able to afford both living and being able to have a semi-wide array of hobbies such that allows to not be unhealthily obsessed with practically only one thing.
I'm lucky, I'm not in a position right now where my own existence fucking sucks that hard. But many of my friends are, and I had been there for a while. Life was a minor hell of not being able to do anything because the finances just don't add up.
I get angry because the goalpost is ever moving. And tomorrow, after some s.o.b. saved for years to get the one thing he wanted so bad but couldn't realistically get otherwise without saving here and there, with the expectation the price would be in X range, suddenly it's "Lol nope, now the expectation is 2X-3X more expensive now to get even the most basic of basic bitch version of what you want, so keep saving forever you fucking wagie."

omg lmao anon you literally don’t know what you’re talking about. Sewing fur in a circle will cause puckers, they won’t be visible on the right side. And faux fur doesn’t “fray” but I’m guessing you mean the loose fur around the edges... which will be invisible as well as finished once the piece is sewn to another and flipped????

>> No.10591630

>>10591627
If you can make your own shit then do it and don't make it other peoples problems. Nobody likes working 70% of their life away but guess what that's 1st world countries. You sound like you are going through a crisis that most people have when they are 15.

Invest in stock market or change your priorities. Saving 4g's is doable if you stop buying fast food, cosplay and porn.

And before you say you or your friend's don't have money for stocks remember that people turned 4$ into 300 on GME. There's plenty of stocks out there that give good gains.

The big thing is that airbrushing does wear off of fleece a lot faster than it does on fur, but the fabric itself doesn’t wear out that bad as long as you’re using and anti-pill fleece. Even if you did have to replace it though, the cost of sewing a fleece bodysuit yourself practically costs pennies compared to making one out of fur. Fleece is pretty versatile for its price, just once again make sure it’s anti pill

Why the fuck is your solution to features of a capitalist society that people should expect lower pay for their labor? If you break it down, most fursuiters make barely over minimum wage on each suit if even that. Making fursuits is a highly skilled process that should necessitate even higher prices, you’re just too used to buying cheap shit that was made in a sweatshop overseas by grannies and children who are basically paid in pennies. If you’re going to complain about how much the system fucks people over, direct that anger towards corporations that make medical care unreachable, or those that refuse to pay a living wage. Don’t bitch at individual artists for not undervaluing their labor because your retarded friends just have to have a neon pink fox costume. Not being able to buy expensive things sucks, but for the love of god people are dying because they can’t afford medical care and housing. Go fuck yourself.

>are cat girls consider furries too?
No. Fuck no. Monstergirls are by and large considered shit by people strictly into furries with how much they clog up popular media in place of actual anthro animals, plus how much normies seem to conflate furries and monstergirls (and the male equivalent). Especially with anime, but live action shit has a major problem with this as well. Though that could just be a budget to do it properly being difficult if we're not multi million on the budget.
>if not where would you draw the line?
It's less a line and more a design mindset. When the character isn't "Literal human with accessories tacked on." but is "(Insert animal here), but with proportions edited so they're human-esque and bipedal.", then you get into furry/anthropomorphic.
I get this is likely a bait post, but fuck if this doesn't rustle the jimmies something fierce.

Your looking at 'popfur' prices. They don't represent the actual average price for a fursuit. Which while obviously less money = less quality on average, 'popfur' prices are not at all representative of quality. Only Le namebrand of how recognizable the maker is. Which usually results in a "Muh style" situation if you have a character wit ha defined look that may not mesh 100% with that maker.
If you want more realistic prices, you have to shop around and really dig to find people. Part for the massive price hike with the popular ones is because they're popular, they get more offers for work than others do, meaning they have to filter people with the price.
I wouldn't spend much more than $1500 for a complete partial, $2000 for a fullsuit myself.

Jegus.
Psychologically, the point of furries isn't that they're animals so much as that they're not human. They're more like an elemental or eidolon than a space alien or fantasy race.
The reason furries are all things like foxes and wolves is because uncommon animals like Glaucus Atlanticus or manuls don't have the same cultural background. A furry is like an abstract idea of cool. This is probably why they get associated so much with searing highlights and rave music- they're supposed to feel very adventurous

Some stranger walks up to you with his features completely concealed. He hops from foot to foot like he has downed a can of Monster or worse, and speaks to you in an unusual manner that implies he is either not sober or completely sane.
Furries are radiating stranger danger to outsiders. A quality suit won't make things better. It will make them not worse.

The "UwU, look at how cute I am, getting up in your face" shit is not all, or probably most people who fursuit though. I find that shit actively obnoxious, and this is from someone who has gone out 'in public' (Right next to, going to a convention, but still) in such a costume.
Most of the problem is between the notion that "Furry = sex thing" and a lingering "5 monkeys and a ladder" effect from the earlier days of the internet when furries were even more obnoxious than they are today in the minds of normies everywhere. Resolve both of those by way of explaining, while in suits that don't look like ass, what the actual deal is, and most rational people will usually understand.

The board is slow because cosplay was in decline even before covid and Discord sucked the social life out of 4chan. I like it personally because its further away from reality, which is kind of apart of the fun for me. Maybe others aswell but I can't speak for everyone. >Is there a reason the suits aren't more form fitting and well proportioned?
kind of difficult to do, if you make it that tight you pop a seam moving, good quality faux fur doesn't always stretch. or sometimes stretches in only one direction.

>> No.10658625

>>10657987
Baggier with bigger heads is straight up easier to make. Stretchable faux fur exists, but it's a pain to get a hold of and only exists in asian markets last I was aware, only in short pile lengths (Long hair would make the stretching redundant) and only in a couple colours (White and a couple beige's if I remember correctly.) Which while you can die the white, the fur's expensive enough that most would be too squeamish. And that's not even getting into how it still needs to fit PERFECTLY to the wearer, which if they gain/loose weight now the suit doesn't fit properly anymore.
The closer to the human head you go, the harder it is to make a pleasing head shape that takes into account the fact that you need to see out of the bloody thing, and generally a humans absolutely huge cranium / they need to breath / can't compress things, etc. It can be done, and has been plenty, but it takes more skill than just sculpting literally whatever with a vague idea of eye placement and sticking that onto a human head.
There's other reasons to (Like how just slight body padding is kinda hard, or if you need internal rigging for massive tails or stilts or whatever, that will require padding to not stick out, which now you're bloating up the body to stay visually proportional), but those two are the main ones.

EVA foam and upholstery foam, the two most common used foam for fursuits, is both perfectly safe. Upholstery foam is the stuff that couches and cushions are made of and EVA foam are those big puzzle piece mats that a lot of gyms and kid daycares use for flooring. As for resin, as long as it's fully set and you wash it after it's setting then it's perfectly fine.

the anon here who went to a sperg fit. Yes, it costs a shitton to work as a tailor or seamstress in developed countries. the tax is high as hell where i live, the material costs are big cus they come from who knows where and the hourly pay that one would need to have to support themselves is high.

there’s a reason all fast fashion and even luxury brands rather pay women and children cents per hour than proffessionals in their country.

here, the minimun pay for a professional would be about 10,15€/h and the work of full suit would take one to six weeks so let’s say 3 work weeks with 8 h work day (adding sundays double pay) the costs of only the work would be 1 461,60€ for that. Add to that to your fur, fleece, lining fabrics, stuffing, all custom face molds and other shit you want to that, it can easily be double of the cost of work. of course if you want a basic dog or wolf with basic coloring the cost will be much less.

glue and resin should be fine after they've fully cured and outgassed
particulates from fur, foam, etc are not good to eat or breathe but probably won't kill you in normal amounts

They are very inconsistent with updates. Legit its been 3 months since the last message and they just said that they "Need to order magnets" I have no idea what they are cookin. But I am really happy with how it looks and excited to get my hands on it eventually.

Ahhh so they’re doing magnetised eyelids for you? Thats going to make it so fun to take photos! When you finally get them you should share tonnes of photos!

>> No.10663991

>>10663980
Yup, they actually did send me a wip of the eyelids before going on radio silence. I think those will be great for photos and I'll make sure to snap a bunch with silly expressions haha.

>> No.10664089

>>10663851
Worst case if they completely ghost you, eyelids are pretty easy to make on your own if you have hot glue and scissors. Depending on the look you want, all you’ll need is magnets and black felt

i actually used blanket stitch on my fursuit, it's very strong despite what that image says. use strong thread too.
also, VERY IMPORTANT, make a trial run first from some scrap fabric or cheap linen, there's a french name for this, something like toille? but its not that. cant remember it. but don't fuck up your good fur, it's expensive.

oh also, see above pic, make your fursuit in a minimum of four parts (seams running vertically) as this helps you make it conform to the curvature of your body. seam down each side, one at the back and another around your tummy patch, assuming you make one.
duct tape dummies are popular for making your pattern.

Post partial fursuits that have proper head-to-body size ratio. Kemono and toony heads are cute and all but they look way better if they actually fit the wearer and don't look massive.

Here’s one of my fursuits that I made, I try really hard to keep my partials small. She’s getting refurbished soon for some nicer ears, nose, and shaving. I have a skin tight bodysuit for her but have no good pictures since I wore it at MFF for 5 minutes then Current Events happened.
