Oh, weird.

Well the tl;dr is that Baby JP used to have an infamous international order staffmember named Sana/Tocco-chan who would be extremely rude to foreigners in emails, sent damaged items purposely to foreigners, and banned customers for complaining about missing or damaged orders, etc. She basically singlehandedly ruined Baby's reputation with the international comm for years before Chinese lolitas made enough of a fuss about it that she was finally fired and Isobe had to personally apologize for her (which as you can imagine, is a big deal for a JP company).

You can find an old shoe review on the EGL LJ comm that details an example of dealing with her. Though the drama that finally got rid of her happened a few years ago, I think around 2016?

>> No.10551924

>>10551922
Oof, what a mess. Especially considering we all have a much easier time ordering with BABY jp site compared to AP as far as them shipping internationally and their mail order forms and whatnot.

I know this is not true but the conspiracy theorist in me is wondering if she was an AP spy planted to kill BABYs international business and reputation, just because of the recent posts about AP and BABY SF having some sort of weird rivalry lol

>> No.10551926

>>10551924
Nope, she was actually a personal friend of the Isobe's which is why she was kept around for so long. She was less of a staffperson and more of a personal friend they brought in to help with orders as the company grew larger rapidly, but I guess they didn't know the extent of her behavior (or didn't care) until it started damaging their reputation with the giant Chinese customer base. She sent some really fucked up stuff in those emails, you can see the caps in the 2016 threads when the archive comes back up.

I think lolita started to decline, after lolita had become popular in china. Now we have burando catering to Chinese nouveau riche, and as they want to flex, burando produce tons of ugly plastic shit. China itself only adds fuel to the fire with taobao cheap and ugly dresses. Lolita was meant to look luxurious but 10$ op cant be seen as such at any point. Instead any weeb can afford it now. Social medias are full of itas wearing plastic. Last but not least, have you thought about how bad poly is for environment? And also rebellious culture shouldn't listen to totalitarian country babes with sugar daddies.

I washed a petite patisserie jsk (tiered brown) that smelled like smoke about 6 times: First 5 I put it in warm water with a lot of baking soda, let is soak for a few hours, then washed on delicate with a gentle detergent. Then once dry, I put it in the freezer for about 3 weeks in a clean zip lock bag. After that, one more baking soda soak and wash with gentle detergent. The smell is now gone.

Hanging it outside in sun a tiny bit may help too, but I didn't need to. The above steps I did didn't fade the print or give it any extra ware, it looks brand new.

Sweat = living bacteria on it I think, so I am not sure if the above will help with that, but it helped me with the smoke smell.

I can confirm that Sana was really difficult to deal with. I once received a damaged item, and she got really quite nasty in her reply, initially being rather patronising, then insisting the item wasn’t damaged at all, and looked as though I was about to get banned. Yr both wrong. Sweat stains/odors are caused by a few specific acidic compounds leftover after bacteria on the skin has broken down proteins present in sweat.

As an aside, most Asian people don’t produce the proteins that are broken down into these compounds, which is why they don’t really get BO, and goes some way to explaining why Jfash brands spit out polyester garments with reckless abandon in a country with notoriously humid summers.

>> No.10552382

This. Idk where this rumor that Asians don't sweat and smell comes from except people's weird fantasy that Asians are superior lol. Most women you won't notice their BO because it is a bit less and many women wear scented products, sweat pads, use scented wipes for sweat, etc. but men or people who aren't good with hygeine? People stink and smell sweaty fairly often and just because it's less than a different ethnicity doesn't mean it's not gross.

Does anyone else feel kind of unsettled or cringe when you see lolitas dance on TikTok or Instagram videos? I don't know why but I just can't look at it. Especially when someone just wants to show their coord but they have no idea what to do so they just do a weird dance for the camera.

Probably better suited to the stupid questions thread but the convo about Baby’s customer service got me thinking; will Baby ship to a Tenso address without any issues? I’ve only ever ordered direct from the intl’ site in the past in the past but I’ve been using Tenso a lot more since covid. EMS has been running fine to my country but all those shipping fees get very costly very quickly so I prefer to consolidate where possible.

Sorry, what I meant to say was most Asian people don’t produce the proteins that are broken down into the compounds that produce BO. Wait that’s exactly what I did say kek. I feel foolish for assuming reading comprehension on a Chilean bookbinding forum :^)

About 85% of south Asians lack a functional ABCC11 gene. Gene not readable = transcription no work = no protein

>> No.10552459

>>10552431
Yeah. This has nothing to do with thinking asians are perfect. Anon is right. Many asians lack the gene. MANY does not mean ALL which is why you sometimes smell very stinky people on public transit, especially men. Children aren't really taught about deodorant because most of them don't need it. Its a point of embarrassment and a gap in health education. Deodorant is sold in the pharmacy in a very small section, or sometimes at convenience stores, and isn't widely available in general and grocery stores. Smelly adults either literally don't know how to stop being smelly or they don't care. They're the genetic minority. 15%- so if you're on a crowded train in the summer, about 1 out of every 10 people may smell.

>>10552386
>many women wear scented products, sweat pads, use scented wipes for sweat
You should know that scented products don't remove the BO scent. Haven't you ever smelled someone put on perfume over their BO? They just smell like BO.... and perfume. Scented products are also still a bit taboo and they are only lightly scented. Strong scents aren't considered usual or appropriate in the workplace.

>> No.10552460

>>10552459
But if you wipe the sweat away from the BO prone areas the smell will be mostly gone?

And one out of ten people seems like a huge gap. 1 out of every 10 people on a crowded train is still like 3-5 people minimum on every train car.

>> No.10552462

>>10552460

If you wipe the scent away from a BO prone area with a scented wipe that doesn't actually remove the bacteria on your skin that is causing the smell, you will smell again quite soon. What you're smelling isn't the sweat itself. The smell can't be wiped away with the water droplets. It lingers on your skin. And how many women do you see shoving wet wipes into their armpits in public?

Exactly. And of those 3-5 people minimum, maybe some of them know how to use deodorant because its genetic and their parents taught them, or they googled it because it was a concern, or they were teased in school and learned to go to the pharmacy to get deodorant to fix it. Which means that some train cars won't have a single smelly person in them, some will have one or two very smelly people, some will have 3-4, and some will have more.

>> No.10552467

>>10552462
Every train I was on where I was the only non asian foreigner had at least 3 smelly dudes tho.

And of course not in public but in a restroom or something in between where they're going, and if they don't smell super strong to begin with it is easier to temporarily cover or remove the smell more effectively.

I used to do most of my coord brainstorming on polyvore and once it shut down I never really found a good alternative. I know there were some much smaller sites floating around at the time but they lacked a lot of polyvore's features and catalogue of other items for ideas, so I never went and checked back on them.

>His fiancé is a very sweet lady who is very thrifty. She makes all her own clothes and and will usually find a practical use for something, rather than throw it out (i.e recycling old bottles and jars to pot plants).

>I had a Baby The Stars Shine Bright Strawberry and Cherry Ruffle jumperskirt that I didn't wear anymore, so I was planning to sell it. From memory, it cost about $400.

>I put it out in the main room next to a pile of clothes I planned to donate to Good Sammies, so I'd remember to take photos of it for the sale. I then went away for a week to visit my grandparents

>When I came back, I noticed the pile of clothes had disappeared. Cool, my dad and/or his fiancé had donated them for me. But wait... Where was the jumperskirt?

>It was then that I saw the sight portrayed in the uploaded. My dress had been cut up to to make an ironing board cover and a tablecloth. I don't know where the rest of the material is.

>It appeared that my dad's fiancé had assumed the jumperskirt was part of the donation pile, and thought there was no harm in 'recycling' it for her own uses. In her efforts to pretty up the concrete-y wasteland of a house, she had unknowingly destroyed an expensive brand dress.

I think you misunderstood. Most people think things are taking forever and say last year was the longest year of their lives, but 2020 passed by me just as quick (well, quicker desu) as every other year for the past 10 years.

I've never met anyone who feels the way I do about time. People will say it's because I'm getting older, but I will literally sit down and lose 4 hours and it felt like I've only been conscious for 15-30 minutes despite not even being asleep and literally 4 hours passing me by. 10 minutes feels like 1 minute. I'll set timers for things like tea, so 5 minute timers, and it feels like they go off after less than a minute. I want my vaccine but I feel like I'll blink and it'll be July and I'll have gotten it already. Like, wasn't it literally just October a couple weeks ago? It's at the point where anticipating things makes the time warp quality worse - excited about a package I just ordered that'll get here in ~2 weeks? Feels like maybe a day or two and then it's here.

I'm wondering if it's related to dissociation? Like maybe I'm dissociating really hard and that's why time seems so weird. My time warp feelings became a lot more intense during/after my severely abusive relationship. IDK. I just wish it'd get better but it seems to be getting worse.

time goes by slower when it's filled with memories. a day when you learn a new hobby, try take-out from a new place, and have a video-chat get-together with friends will go by a lot slower than a day when you do all the same-old same-old shit. that's why the moments when you receive a package are the only blips in your timeline and everything else blurs by.

Setting aside the cringey furbait, I can see what they were trying to do, looking at the insane popularity of Usakumya/Kumakumya releases and trying to spark the same magic on the AATP side, but I don't observe gothic and classic lolitas being as into mascot/character releases like that. I don't think it's going to work out in the long run.

But lore wise, you're right, I can see that working. I wish they'd take it in a more whimsical and slightly dark tone, playing off the menacing Brothers Grimm aspects of the wolf characters in fairytales rather than the cute plush and furry accessories route.

>> No.10570047

I think they'd have been better off doing a boy usakumya or coming up with a wolf closer to kumya styles in more masculine shades or something. I can imagine using the same template for a fox and wolf as well since foxes are tricksters in Japanese folklore sort of how wolves (and still foxes) are sly in western stories.

Imagine a Kitsunekumya or Ookamikumya? I think it could look cute and they could make Japanese folklore inspired prints using yokai stories or something as a theme without it being a full on wa lolita dress cut or shape...maybe my brain is getting way too ambitious but I trust them to execute a busy print like that well and the texture of their cotton is so nice.

NAYRT but the closest thing to a wearable mascot I can think of for classic/gothic is probably that one dog scarf. And that was released under VM's casual normie brand.

Ayrt (none of the other replies were me) but yeah I know it was recent which is why I said they "just" released them. And regardless IW is still a classic brand. No need to backpedal because multiple people pointed out brands of all substyles releasing cute stuffed animal shit. Some people have even suggested part of the reason many black kumyas use deep blue accents is partially to match or appeal to people who like to wear moitie blue. Not sure how accurate that is but considering most sweet brands don't use that shade of blue super often it's not crazy.

Plus many kumya owners in particular only wear them to events/keep them in their bedrooms as room decor as well, and use regular bags as everyday wear. Which is also partly why a lot of Japanese girls are always selling their kumyas with no straps.

Excuses. You're just kind of wrong. Sick of insecure gothicfags acting like sweets are any more embarrassing or crazy than any other lolita style to normies. The reality is you're not secure enough in your own style or sense of self so you criticize other substyles. Sweets rarely complain about other substyles, idk why the other two complain about us so much other than feeling like they need to overcompensate and cater to normies. It also doesn't address the fact that many people wear more than one substyle of the fashion anyway.

Not all classics/gothics but still, enough on cgl that it's annoying and old.

Ok but how many times in a thread do I hear sweetfags shit on classic and gothic. Gothic is overpriced, Mana is a tranny, classic is so boring it's grandma fashion. Even to yourselves you try to distance yourself from various prints you view as ageplay by loudly denouncing those prints. Just face it, we're all neurotic insecure bitches here. No one is better than anyone else.

But how though. No one has actually bothered to explain how besides spamming a bunch of novelties that everyone knows exists and have nothing to do with the discussion?

When was the last time you saw a gothic or classic coord with a mascot character print, accessory or bag? It doesn't happen often because the mascots aren't to a lot of wearers' taste, which was the original point of the discussion if you bothered to actually scroll up and see that this was about Captain Chris. That is the discussion

No one was talking about sweets. No one was talking about normie reactions. This is about neither of those subjects. If you just want to rant about meanie gothics and classics the AP thread is >>10566115 that way.

The novelties were to show that there is a market for plushies in gothic and classic. So it makes sense that AATP produces items to fill that niche. People might buy it for display, or for themed meets. Who's to judge?

Nart but I literally never see any of that. No one here ever really disrespects mana and people refer to classic things as grandma like in a positive way as far as I've seen (we even had that silly grandma couch print camoflauge thread once), the worst I can tell is sweets mistaking classic and more casual stuff for looking normie when it's not and that's more newfaggotry than anything. I don't think all of one substyle or another is bad or insecure but I do see way more shitting on sweets than the othwr way around.
