No it actually isn’t. Once again, there’s a huge difference between actual slave labor, and underpaid labor. Making this false equivalency dilutes the actual cases of real slave labor, which is unpaid, involuntary, and in the case of Uighurs racially/ethnically motivated.

>> No.10609525

I'm curious to know how people who are trying to boycott Xinjiang cotton are approaching buying cotton pieces. Are you eliminating buying new cotton pieces entirely? Does that mean your not buying cotton normie pieces? What about Western indie brands and the Chinese indie brands that haven't outright supported Xinjiang cotton?

Until AP, Baby, Meta, IW, VM, and other brands outright put out statements regarding where they source there materials then I don't think we should judge immediately. Since AP moved production to the Philippines they could be sourcing cotton from alot of other sources since it's a island nation. They might not even know where there cottons sourced from and this probably rings true more for classic since they could use floral prints or trim that could be from anywhere.

"But if you bear in mind that Xinjiang cotton accounts for 85% of Chinese production and 20% of world supply, the chances are high that you've got some in your wardrobe."

I’m not sure if I want to step into this steaming pile, but I run an indie brand and wanted to chime in on this. We don’t use cotton because it is impossible to guarantee it’s sourcing without paying the astronomical cost of locally produced cotton. You literally can’t even ask your producers where it comes from because China has cracked down like crazy on people demanding non-Uighur cotton and has even blacklisted companies as unpatriotic when they simply state that they don’t source cotton from xinjiang. It would put my production team in China in a dangerous position for me to ask for that information so I chose to work with RPET, which is recycled. Big brands are slow to move and unlikely to do anything to perturb their Chinese base. Since Uighur genocide has been relabeled as a patriotic effort to improve the economic conditions of Uighur people and is widely supported among the general Chinese population, I wouldn’t be surprised if AP and the like eventually advertised their use of this cotton.

I like prints in this collection more than those from the past two seasons, especially Galaxy Cocktail. But I feel like the cuts are too casual. Maybe it's the lack of custom lace. Galaxy Cocktail only has bias binding tape on the bottom, Heartful OP uses some sort of mass produced eyelet lace, Polka Dots OP has a ruffle made of the same fabric as the main piece, Cherry Stamp has a very simple scallop lace, and the polkadot apron skirt has a very simple ruffle made of tulle or some other semi-transparent fabric.

I don't dislike Risa, I just dislike her seeming lack of enthusiasm. I much prefer RinRin, Misako, or people who are really into lolita and excited to wear it. Even most other Asian models tend to look bubbly or happy but Risa barely ever cracks a tiny smile. Reminds me of Mandy from the Grimm Adventures of Billy and Mandy. I bet she'll tear a hole in the fabric of reality if she ever dares to look like she's having fun in a stock image.

In her defense though, anyone would have a hard time feeling cute and happy in some of the nu-sweet shit AP puts out. If the lookbook is any indication, the spring pieces this year were a fluke and AP is for the most part going back to making ugly (to me at least) dresses. Oh yeah, definitely. I'm not excusing her behavior, just thinking of explanations for why she is doing it.

I think even regardless of her shit behavior I want AP to use a different model because she is doing a shit job at making the brand's clothes look desirable, which is what models are supposed to be doing. I saw Risa Nakamura at a conbini in Roppongi recently. I told her how cool it was to meet her in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother her and ask her for photos or anything.
She said, “Eh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “eh?” but she kept cutting me off and going “eh? eh? eh?” and closing her hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard her chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw her trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Crunky Bars in her hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Okyakusama, you need to pay for those first.” At first she kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When the cashier took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, Risa stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, Risa kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

To give Risa some benefit of the doubt, there are some articles from the Japanese rumor mill that she has some degree of mental struggle and is just generally a shy person.
She took a break in 2018 from acting activities for health reasons.
https://www.cyzo.com/2018/02/post_149812_entry.html

I personally think she is just not good at expressing herself/not good with strangers (which yes, is somewhat ironic for an actress). iirc she went to school (university) for acting, but dropped out, it's unclear if it was really to pursue modeling or maybe she didn't have good potential at the time.
At the AP tea party last year on zoom, Risa seemed to be trying hard to make small contributions to the conversation and smiled a lot for the camera.

However, angry dialogue on an image board is not going to help save Uighurs from slave labor, but national governments banning the import of fabrics produced via slave labor & the import of manufactured garments in which the raw material is produced via slave labor would help stop Uighars from being forced into labor.
