I honestly feel like AP is only popular because people (Chinese lolitas and covidlitas mainly) like the old releases so much. Then that spills over to "liking" the current releases because ~it's AP~. I don't think the illusion can keep going for too much longer though. You don't see $1k-2k WTBs for the new releases.
I don't think AP is going to close down or anything, just that it will be much less relevant after a few more years of same-y limp polyester all-over print releases. I mean look at us already - no one even talked about the dresses in the latest release. The only thing people barely cared about were the aprons and jewelry.

What other brand has 1-2k WTBs for new releases? This is a weird standard to set for them. You see $400-500 scalper listings for their new releases, which didn't happen ever before. The demand right now is insane and it's always the same sour grapes people mad that AP isn't Old AP anymore and wanting them to fail/become less relevant because of it. There is zero evidence of this so called decline that everyone keeps trying to manifest on them. Fatties do this a lot too.

Sorry, I realize my last post wasn't super clear - my context here was that old AP releases are being sold for $1-2k, and there are often WTBs for this much as well. I've had people personally message me out of no where, offering thousands of dollars for old AP stuff.
I was trying to point out that even popular releases like JCT and Ice Cream Parlor don't have people thirsting after them, to the same level as old AP. I'm 100% being biased here, because I think new AP is embarrassing, but I think there's some proof in the way prices are manifesting. It is way cheaper to buy new than it is to buy secondhand. Sure, AP sells out of everything, everytime. But that's because more people are in the fashion now than ever before. It's not because AP is "better" or even more "popular." It's just a result of AP never increasing supply.

I don’t like most of APs solids right now, but even back in the years everyone is so nostalgic for, people didn’t excitedly discuss solid releases with only a few exceptions. There’s just never been as much hype for solids. Candy Fairy for example has gotten more popular with time, it wasn’t very popular upon release. And Nakayoshi Bunny was met with a resounding “it’s cute but the bonnet looks like a satellite dish”

I can’t think of any time when a new release immediately turned around and got sold for thousands. Even Sugary Carnival in the heyday of the print didn’t go for that much when it was new. It takes awhile for a dress to reach that status. It took Honey Cake over 5 years for that to happen.

Before the MTO, only a few CTPs even existed. The rarity by itself merited the high prices.
What I don't get is things like Dream Fantasy and Decoration Dream going for $600+. I already have multiple colorways of both, but those dresses aren't particularly rare or in physically short supply.
Side conversation, but I was talking to a friend recently and we were both kind of shaking our heads at how individual dresses don't "mean" anything anymore. Newbies don't discern between different releases and there's no basis or value. It's just "it's old pastel AP" and suddenly every dress is $1k+ even if it's from a lucky pack. That's my number one reason why I don't think sweet prices will ever come back down to 2016-2018 levels. We've broken the glass ceiling that once was CTP and Puppet Circus.

>> No.10627670

>>10627665
Right, my point was that at first it was really exclusive, and then MTO after that but with the community being much smaller and not a ton of people necessarily buying it, there were probably less total in circulation prior to the rerelease than you might expect for a standard release AND if people were going to buy this piece they probably wanted to keep it; combined with dress turnover in the fashion probably not being as crazy high as it's been since the rise of instagram, people back then weren't as eager to buy a dress for one pic and then resell the way many do now so it wouldn't have even come up secondhand as much.

Then once one or two people decide to pay big bucks for it, the piece becomes cemented as a status symbol and worth a lot, and for some pieces it stays like that for a while regardless of popularity because no one wants to sell it for retail when someone else got 1k. It's like how PC is finally slowly selling for less and less secondhand despite being more rare and special than like, SC which was overpriced bc of sweet boom bullshit.

There is really not always much logic to what sells for a lot besides the amount of cash people have to blow on a whim for a dress and how much those selling secondhand want to exploit that desperation (if they want to more power to them), so even if logically CTP was never as rare as people thought, the circumstances surrounding it leading to the slight rarity being exaggerated fucked with demand and what people would shell out for it in a particular way that impacted its price long term.

The exact same reason honey cake started going for a lot, people realized they liked the print or changed their opinion on it. Personally I didn’t care for decoration dream when it came out but it’s grown on me. It had pretty bad series photos and at the time everyone wanted milky planet or sugary carnival (which was rereleased in 2011)

The big releases that year were SC rerelease, toy fantasy, twinkle carnival, dream sky and chess chocolate. French cafe, aqua princess and decoration dream did okay. honey cake, petit patissire, the country of sweets rerelease, sugar hearts, sheep garden and triple tart were met with just a shrug.

fairy kei uses pastels. you're thinking of decora or pop kei which are similar looking but not the same style. i do agree though that AP was taking lots of inspiration from those styles during the 2010s and there was lots of overlap between AP sweet and fairy kei/pop kei/spank/decora styles, but the key there is that there was overlap. similarly to now, many lolitas rejected the newer trends that AP was following and ignored the fact that AP was clearly trying to push things like sneakers and mini skirts to their customers. honestly AP is the most like "fast fashion" of all the major brands, because they follow trends so closely and in turn don't have much consistency (unlike brands like baby that makes the same kind of prints and styles that they did 10 years ago.) though, honestly, this is probably why AP is always so popular. they're on top of trends and therefore have wider appeal, that gets them more customers but unfortunately strains their regular customer base who like the look of certain releases that AP stops making.

>> No.10628793

Look at it on the japan site. I believe those measurements are an error.
Japan site lists it as follows:
[Size]
・ Length: Approximately 89 cm (including hem frills 4 cm)
・ Bust: Approximately 92 cm
・ West switching position: Approximately 76
cm
・Shoulder width: Approximately 34 cm・ Length: BNP to approximately 32 cm
・ Sleeve length: Approximately 33 cm (lace 3 cm included) )
・ Cuffs: Approximately 28 cm

There's no shirring in it/not stretchy fabric.

Nayrt but absolutely nothing is guaranteed until AP actually drops the MTOs. For all we know, AP could skip them if they became disinterested. It already sounded like AP was wishy-washy on them because Angelic Prophet mentioned the possible lack of colors/cuts. It doesn't bode well.

So are Candy Fairy and Nakayoshi Bunny, which go for higher secondhand than Petit Bouquet has.
