There's going to be a heat wave in my city this week. My parasol is ready but my gothic wardrobe is crying.
How do you gulls survive the heat? What are your go to pieces for the hottest days of Summer?

I have a short sleeved black lace top (offbrand) that I wear with cotton jsks. It does suck to go into crowded, humid bars anyway so I carry towelettes in my purse. Haven’t broken out the parasol yet, but it might come out once we hit those 95+ heat waves.

Airy chiffon, short sleeved OPs, breathable cutsews, corset bustiers, parasols, and crew socks.

Luckily I don't have to work during the day in summer and luckily heat waves never last long where I live. I get up early to water my plants and prep iced tea for later, and then nap in the middle of the day. If I have to go out, I have a couple short sleeve blouses from Miho Matsuda that are noice in the heat.

>> No.10635308

>>10635189
I wear skirts with an in-built petti so my hoopskirt won't look weird together with either a cutsew or cotton blouse, depending on the coord. And ankle socks of course I need more of those.

>> No.10635310

This is a bit gross but I sweat a lot. I shower twice a day in summer. I use clinical strength antiperspirant, and I've ordered armpit pads to protect my blouses, but is there anything I can do about facial sweating?
I always sweat all my makeup off on the way to meets. I have Urban Decay's setting spray but it does not seem to do much. In particular, eyeliner comes right off. I use gel eyeliner from Inglot which is supposed to have good staying power but it does not last more than an hour or two on me.

Any tips?

You could try green marble setting spray if you want something more hardcore. I also love one/size point made eyeliner by Patrick starr. I have pretty watery eyes and this eyeliner is smudge proof, waterproof, and lasts perfectly all day and night.

Thanks, all! I think I'll start with the Green Marble as it will help all my makeup stay on, not just the eyeliner.
I've tried a tonne of different eyeliners, felt tip, liquid, gel, etc., and I will say the gel one from Inglot has so far been the best. All the others lasted 30 minutes at absolute most. This one I get 2 hours out of with the setting spray. So I will try it in combination with Green Marble and after that if I don't have any luck I will go down the list of new eyeliners to try!

I don't tend to wear makeup most days and just focus on sun protection, maybe a bit of blush, lip tint, and clear mascara on days where I wanna do a little extra. Cotton OPs and Parasols are your friend. I also wear mainly old school so no or light cotton petti is always an option.

I would love to see more summery coords that make use of brand open toed shoes, blouseless looks like with halter JSKs or just short sleeved OPs, and high ponytails or other "cooling" hairstyles and whatnot. I definitely think using bracelets/jewelry on the wrists rather than wristcuffs helps me feel less sweaty in summer and it makes the coord feel more casual anyway.

A lot of Europe doesn't use AC I have heard,, at least in residential places. Plus people in other countries walk and take public transit far more than us burgers and even with AC public transit is a lot warmer than being in your own vehicle with the AC vent right near you.

Also some people just like outdoor activities like walks and eating outside. I do these things in lolita but only evening or early morning to avoid peak hours of heat (it gets above 100F where I live)

The beach is kind of awful for lolita. Your hair falls apart after 30 minutes, it's damp and bad for clothing, if you want to play in the water you really don't want to bring brand. That being said tho btssb had some swimsuits, pic related, if you're into secondhand swimwear. Maybe some cute hats with a frilly swimsuit would look pretty cute if you want something frillier.

If you didn't use AC in your home or car at all anywhere west of the Colorado river and generally south in the US, you're probably gonna literally die of heat stroke real quick, plus some people live near where there are tons of forest fires and need the air filtration AC provides when everything near them is smoky and literally burning for weeks. I don't live in that part of the US but even in places like NYC where it's not as warm the heat is getting unbearable because of climate change. Here are some tips for staying cool in the summer!
- Stick to cotton or linen. Natural fibers help your skin breathe better and wick away sweat.
- Hand fans and parasols can be extremely useful for keeping yourself cool and in the shade!
-If you don't have a parasol and are going to be in the sun a lot, it's actually better to wear long sleeves and a hat to protect against sunburn.
-I tend to wear cute sunglasses as well to protect my eyes.
- ankle socks and a cage skirt in place of tights and petti will have you feeling much cooler.
- The less layers, the better. Generally I find myself wearing short cotton OPs so I don't have to wear an undershirt or blouse.
-Colours matter too! Generally speaking the lighter a colour is the cooler you will feel, because black absorbs heat.

Stay hydrated and safe this summer, gulls. Remember, the sun is the enemy of youth. Use sunscreen.

Nyart, but no
Of course it is, to some degree, everyones fault, but if we say humans are causing it, it looks like it’s something inherent to our species while it’s actually something about the way a relatively small group of people are living. It can easily divert us from the real problem and fuel the shallow “reduce humans to save the environment” speech which can lead to pretty awful stuff in the long run.

It's fun thinking about how you can adapt your coordinates to your lifestyle at a given point, such as your job (if they let you wear lolita), the weather conditions, what activities you're doing (I'm a big fan of EGL loungewear, for example). It's all about being a lifestyler.

I see a problem in a lot of these coords for summer. OTKs. Especially if they’re cotton. If it’s too hot to wear a blouse I see people wear OTKs regardless and that pains me; especially if they’re complaining about heat. I live in Arizona and u bet ur ass my go to coord for summer is a short sleeve cotton op with ankle socks. No OTKs in sight.
