Well I filled out the template. I've never cosplayed before so what's the best way to start? I've never been to a convention or anything like that before.
I did like JUST start blacksmithing, so maybe I can try making something with that? That might be too difficult though.

Anyways, I'm really open to cosplaying whatever. Games, anime, books, manga, history, etc. I'm not exactly muscular though so I can't really be cosplaying as Broly.

I think a Roman Cavalryman could be a cool cosplay. I don't know that they would have been super tall, but I think being tall would bring the "imposing" factor that being on a horse sort of gives you. They also have this really awesome face mask.

I'm trying to think of what to get my gf to cosplay as for the day of AX we don't have anything planned. She's average-short (like 5'3-4), white, and the characters she's going for the other days are girl Byleth, Sailor Mercury and Hu Tao from Genshin.

We're hoping to get her something that won't be too hot but is maybe a little more on the quasi-formal side? I like her to wear long-dresses and cocktail dresses, wigs are fine. Her other stuff is more mainstream so us trying something a bit more retro/niche is fine.

Not everyone is going to know the characters you're talking about. Having pictures readily available makes it easier for you to receive suggestions. You/she could also receive suggestions based on body type, aesthetic, etc. Furthermore if you took a look at the template, you'd know that you have to give 3 suggestions in order to receive suggestions back.

Tbh all of the characters you've considered cosplaying are going to require you to craft them or for you to commission the whole thing. Rengoku is the best choice out of the 4 because you can pick up the whole cosplay for like $120.

Shinji Ikari from evangelion, Minato Arisato from persona 4, and Keiichi Maebara from higurashi came to mind. All pretty simple "average guy" characters. If your hair is too long for Shinji you can always wear a wig, same thing for Minato. Keiichi has medium length brown hair tho

Howl from Howl's Castle might work for you if you're willing to shave your beard and has a pretty beginner friendly outfit I think. Guren Ichinose from owari no seraph could work with your body type if you're willling to wear a wig :)

I just can't think of a character that I could conceivably pull off. I'm in that awkward body type where I'm not thin enough to pull off most anime/game characters but not fat enough to do something like Choji or Bob from Tekken.

Imo Crona fits you best from your picks. If this is your first cosplay, I would recommend staying away from intensive builds like Gwyndolin or Alucard -- though they're good to keep in your back pocket once you're more experienced. You have an advantage because most MC's are tall and thin, so you have a wide range to chose from.
