That's flat out your own opinion. Their song is definitely on the edgier/hip side, but that's the kind of music Kira makes best. And while Reso's singing style isn't 100% a fit in terms of that style, I would never say it's a bad song and they've grown a lot. Compared to the rest of the garbage in this community? The song is pretty good id say. I've loved everything Kira and Asteroid music has created and they did the bulk of the writing and production for this song. Maybe it would pass better if these girls were more accustomed to that singing style but again, I think they were able to pull it off decently well considering their background.

She really is no cap. And yeah BluePrint is...good? But not great. I had to listen to it a number of times before I got the hang of the melody and what the idea was. And some of the lyrics are a little...idk cheesy? Like the song is a carbon copy of your basic edge pop and it didn't feel like anything new.

After observing everything they've done thus far, I feel like while there is a definite mass effort to seem professional and organized, a lot of the work is on Mimi's end fronting basically all their art pieces and most the designs. And while I do see very useful strengths in Nikki and Pengy, they may not have gotten anywhere on their own. Now again, this is speculation. Their fanbase but also their own ability to raise money (whether it's their job or commission work) contributes to all the music they can afford to put out. But as far as things like vocals, lyrics and choreo...it's very basic and in some cases seems very surface level and bland.

This isn't to bring them down by any means. They've been able to accomplish a lot. And while I don't want to be that person to say their actual performance skill isn't 'deserving' of their hype, it does feel very mediocre I guess.

Generally, pop music is a "girl's thing" in the west. Most K-pop girl group fans in the west are other girls, unlike how in Korea, a lot of girl groups have male fans. Love Live has a lot more female fans in the u.s. than in Japan, where most fans are males.

This just makes it more clear that just because you have a talented or popular producer, it doesn't guarantee you any success. It depends on a lot of different factors. And this song wasn't very suited for them. For how much that song must have cost, the turn out did not justify it. They should stick with their strong suits and stay within their means until they grow more. (Fanbase and skill-wise)

Last summer, Emily from non sweet was getting shit on quite a bit on tiktok for “asianfishing”/ culturally appropriating. (I think mostly for her make up style and use of the word “kawaii”) I think Paida has had those terms thrown at her as well as some point.

The difference though is that they are actually good. They have quality dancing, singing, costumes, their live shows clearly demonstrate how much time energy and money they put into this to the point that it’s a pseudo hobby career.

Those comments have died down because you can see that their efforts are there in order to appreciate the culture, not appropriate it.

I think we’re seeing the turnover of those who were really active during the 2015-2020 scene. They’re entering new stages in life, moving, changing up their images, and were presumably affected by the pandemic. Those who find joy and even success in what they’re doing continue (maybe under a new name/brand), but everyone else tends to move on to vtubing or streaming (if they don’t leave the weeb scene as a whole).

I’ve been going through Instagram follows and see a whole bunch of soloists/groups who quietly disappeared in 2018-19, along with more who announced hiatuses in 2020-2021. Some people who had initial support/some hype behind them (Squeeze, Astreal, Risa Rosé, Urania’s Mirror, Chekiss) are largely or entirely inactive.

I’d really like to see some comebacks and fresh talent/new sounds/new images in the next few years; Melancholiaah’s group sounds amazing from the A-Kon videos I’ve seen and we could use more groups like that.

We've had this conversation a hundred times already but I'll give my opinion. IdolFests at conventions were MEANT to have cosidols. It's about holding a space for idol anime cosplayers and groups to show off and perform and bring characters to an audience. And years back then people really loved it. But now, unless I see a full, put together and in sync group of 5+ I'm not interested anymore. I've seen the same characters do the same songs a million times and to me, it's getting old. But then what else is there?

I still enjoy seeing less overdone cosplay concepts come to the stage, but I really want to see more original concepts cause that's something that I am into right now. I want to see people be more creative and ambitious than just a little dancey dance in a bought cosplay with lipsyncing. I do still think cosidols should have a space to show their work, but I think idolfests are moving in a good direction with mixing it up with original and more unique acts.
