What did he get banned for?

>> No.6313683

>>6313639
He got banned because he was trying to charge people for photo shoots at expo and MCM found out about this and quite reasonably said sure but you need to buy a stand. The response to this was to disagree with expo and judging from this campaign going on over on facebook he was probably immature about it and go banned when expo seems to have acted quite fairly

For one he doesn't do photoshoots. Two he was only disagreeing with MCMs bullshit. Three why don't you enlighten us into who he is charging for photos?

In those photos that anon is posting he's actually holding a friends camera, it's not his.

Also what MCM are doing regarding photoshoots is ridiculous, they don't actually provide the service that the unofficial paid photographers are providing. They have shitty studio set ups inside the building set up by crap photographers who can't even get a basic seamless white background set up properly. They don't have photographers who go outside and do more unique photoshoots. People hire photographers for their photography style. And the photographers who have to charge do it because they are providing a time consuming service.

Saying that there really is only a small handful of photographers that provide paid shoots that I know of, it's not even like its a big problem.

I bet CosplayPortrait just got butthurt and whined to MCM to do this

Actually Expo is being perfectly fair.

Charging for photos at Expo is like selling fanart.

If you imagine Expo as the anime or appropriate fandom and the photographers as the fan artists, said fan artist still need to get a table. Otherwise what they're doing, in or out of an event, is illegal. It's a really small thing and probably doesn't affect the fandom/Expo as a whole but it's still illegal.

Also, I'm not sure everyone here has read the newsletter and is misinterpreting what the Expo is actually saying you can't do.

>> No.6315229

>Hi

>It has been brought to our attention through Facebook, Twitter and various other means that certain people are offering paid for Photo shoots at MCM Expo Events and other paid for services illegally.

>Charging for any type of service without being a registered dealer or exhibitor with us is not allowed!

> Information on the people already highlighted has been sent to Excel Security and Event Security.

> Charging for an unofficial service that has not been agreed in writing by MCM Expo either inside the building or on the Excel estate over the Weekend of MCM Expo from Friday until Monday inclusive is not allowed.

> We are more than happy for people to organise FREE photoshoots for their groups and of course for memories but at no point will we allow these to be charged for.

> If you wish to book a dealer stand so that you can charge for a service then email dealers@mcmexpo.net

> Please also remember that to be onsite you need to be in receipt of a valid wristband for the day or days you are there, this is the same anywhere inside the building or on the outside contracted areas of the venue, wristbands are and will be checked by venue and event security.

>We are sorry that we have had to send out this email but we need to highlight the few who try to ruin a great weekend for the masses.

> If you are organising a meet, free photo session, picnic or any other MCM Expo community activity remember to register it free with mcmfringe@mcmexpo.net

> We hope everyone has a great weekend as we are sure you will but please adhere to the above.

> Please do not ignore this notice.

The Expo is not telling anyone to stop having fun or that they can't take photos of their friends etc. What they're saying is, if you're going to offer a professional service (which is defined as paid work however small the payment) then you have to do it the same way every other company/dealer/booth/artist/stand at Expo does. By paying for the right.

If you look at this from the perspective of a dealer for example, you have to pay for your table and make that back before you can start earning money. You can't just set yourself up on a blanket in the Excel Centre to peddle your wares. So for photographers to be wondering around earning money for nothing is unfair from their perspective surely?

Also the Expo isn't saying that said photographers have to be chained to a booth or a stand, they can still be wondering photographers but that they have to pay for the right. And this doesn't apply to free photographers at all, as they are not making a profit off the back of someone else.

Now I have no idea what the Expo is asking in terms of cost for these photographers and maybe someone better informed than me can tell you. Given the fact that the photographers I know who have started asking for payment don't charge very much it seems unlikely that they'd make back what they pay the expo. So perhaps the solution is either to argue for a cheap license to charge around the expo and charge cosplayers accordingly or to photograph for free.

>> No.6315301

>>6315240
Good point, actually. I've heard mixed things about the booth pricing thing, somewhere I've heard £10 and another place I've heard £150, so I guess it's all down to that where we decide if it's ridiculous or not. The cheap license idea sounds like the best solution.

Can someone who knows their shit when it comes to Law please look this up and stop all this fucking speculation. I would but I really don't give enough of a fuck yet.

>> No.6316252

As much as I like Cam, he can't really complain about being banned. He was rude to MCM and deliberately went out of his way to send them an abusive email. Someone who emails "I'll take my fucking shoots and if people want there shots they will pay for them. You won't be seeing a fucking penny of it asshole. Go fuck yourself." is just asking for trouble. You can express your feelings without swearing and being aggressive, especially when it's a situation that doesn't even affect him.

A dealer stand at Midlands is £110 for a centre table, £125 for a perimeter table. London will be more expensive, considering that extra dealer wristbands for Midlands is only £20 and for London they're £40.

Memorabilia Birmingham the prices are £195 for a perimeter table, £140 for a centre table

A solution for photographers might be to take the photos for free but then charge for editing or public release of the photos. To my knowledge this isn't affected by the MCM.

That's what Cosplay Fever did anyway right? Took photos for free, stuck some up online and stuck the rest in a book for profit after the event that none of the featured cosplayers saw a penny of?

>> No.6316351

>>6316252
I don't know the guy, nor am I bothered about the paid photography business.

But good on them if he was genuinely so abusive. Sounds like he was trying to be edgy and "honest" or... I don't even. I'd be embarrassed to be friends with someone like that (although I'm sure plenty of people could say that about me).
Why people use horrible language, especially in that kind of capacity, I just don't understand.
How does anyone ever think it's ever going to help a situation or be of any use?

As for MCM, I'd be curious to see if they'd inforce this at all. What are they going to do, give security guards a wanted list to look out for?

>> No.6316371 [DELETED]

>>6316351
With the thousands of people attending, I have no idea how they would even enforce that. Although he was told that security will be informed and will be looking out for him if he does try to attend. If he wore a costume though, I doubt they would recognise him.

All the booths are dealers, not from expo, while some of the free wandering photographers are from expo. Plenty of reasons to bash the event, at least pick real ones?

Expo is surprisingly lenient until you dance around in front of them going look at me breaking the ruuuuules, ala OP, too many shitty photographers spammed the forums, now expo HAS to be seen to do something, clap clap everyone

>>6316298
Technically, private event, private property, photo permission is entirely on their terms, their terms are no making money from the event without the dealer fee, so now or later is the same

Cosplay fever are dealers and they get release forms, they're totally covered to make any money they want out of it
