6400779 No.6400779[DELETED]  [Reply] [Original]

I originally went to /fit/ for this, but they're not helping.

I have a pear shaped body. Pretty similar to the image posted. Sizes are 30-26-36. I'm already working out, going to the gym etc. But I want to know what are some exercises I can do to lower my waist size and hip size, I want a 22 inch waist and 34 inch hips. I'll obviously still have a pear shape body just want it to be more proportioned.

>> No.6400782

they aren't helping because you are an idiot.
you cannot choose where you lose inches, where you lose weight.

>> No.6400787

31-22-33 here.

It's genetics and where your body naturally deposits fat. Do you have extra "fat" in your midriff? If you want to lower your measurements, you're going to have to lose weight. You can do all the crunches in the world, but it may only lower your waist to 24-25. You need to lose the "fat" on top of it. If you don't have any "fat" there, that's just your natural waist measurement and you cannot do anything about it.

Also realize that if you exercise to lose weight, your chest size of 30 inches will inevitably go down as well. You can't spot-target certain areas - if you lose weight, it comes off from all over (usually upper body first).

For exercises, I would do squats, pilates/yoga, and abdominal exercises. Eat healthy. And don't starve yourself or attempt to lose weight you do not have. No measurement is worth your health.

A drop in the bucket? You can lose 200-300 calories a day ALONE through 1 hour of exercise. That adds up.

As you are completely undereducated about this whole topic, you are also forgetting that exercise serves to increase your metabolism for hours after you've finished. It also serves to build muscle which raises your daily calorie requirements. Overall, it's NOT a small drop in the bucket.

because the 200-300 calories burned in an hour of working out is a number you get from someone who mindlessly runs on a treadmill for an hour and thinks they've accomplished something. it's what people do when they want to say they've worked out, not when they actually know what they're doing.

>> No.6400936

that depends on how you run mindlessly, if you magically are trained to put it on an incline and add resistance and just go for an hour it can be good. but if you're like most people and just turn the machine on and go for an hour at a comfortable jog you wont get much out of it other than a really basic run.

Wow there is so much dumb in here. SO much dumb. Besides the two or three that are attempting to argue sanity, have any of you ever worked out a day in your life?

I'd say go read the sticky in /fit but that's obviously not going to happen, so OP! Here is what you should do!

FIRST. Watch your diet. Now, I'm not saying GO on a diet. I'm saying WATCH WHAT YOU EAT. Count calories. Don't overdo sugar/carbohydrates. Go to this website - http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/calrmr.htm - put in your statistics, and find out how many calories you should be eating.

NEWS FLASH: If you eat too little, IE, crash diet, it is NOT SUPER EFFECTIVE at helping you lose weight. Eating below that number calculated in the link (henceforth known as your RMR,) will cause your body to go 'HOLY CRAP I'M STARVING' and slow down your metabolism. The RMR is the number your body needs to just run, day by day.

Now, after that, go to this calculator - http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/issa64.htm - put in your stats and activity level, and it will tell you how many calories you are burning that day. To lose weight, eat ABOVE your RMR but BELOW you total calories burned in the day.

So now that we've got diet down, you have to think about exercise. You're not going to be able to spot train, there's no such thing as that, in general the goal is to lose fat overall (that's where diet comes in,) and to work muscles so that you won't look skinnyfat when you DO lose the weight.

>> No.6402172

>>(continued)

So while cardio is... acceptable to work out in, generally unless you're running a LOT (or using something like an eliptical on very high resistance,) its not going to make you form that nice tight booty.

So the best workouts, in the /fitizen/seagull's opinion, is going to be weights.

'But anon,' you may say 'isn't lifting weights going to make me bulk up?' The answer to that question as FUCK NO. As females, we have a FRACTION of the testosterone that men have, it is impossible for us to get huge and bodybuilderesque without either steroids, freakish genetics, or extremely regimented, targeted, workouts - generally a combination of all three.

What lifting weights is going to do is build muscle and make you very toned and hot (Picture definitely related.) And by weights, I don't mean the little brightly colored yoga weights.

No, I mean do squats. Do deadlifts. Do bench press. Do as many compound lifts as you can, because they are fucking awesome, burn lots of calories, and give you a great full body workout. Don't be ashamed if you have to start out low, but you WILL see progress if you push yourself, and you WILL see results.

The final note is, if you do take my advice and go lift real weights, make sure you're getting enough protein for your muscles to recover. A good rule of thumb is to aim for a gram of protein per pound per day.

And go read the /fit sticky.

This is now a /fit Friday thread. Just a day late.

what? you turned a normal tracking of calories into cognitive behavioral therapy

Just log your calories, weirdo. The sooner you treat nutrition as equations the sooner you can stop emotionally eating and attain a physique.

Because if I have a pen in my hand I'm going to keep writing and making observations. Also it was interesting to see the patterns I never noticed before.

For the record, it's not that I was including why that made people near me uncomfortable, it's that I was tracking it at all.

If you want to lose weight slowly, just diet. If you want to lose weight quickly long with a thousand other health benefits, exercise and diet.

Why is that so hard to understand? I feel like I'm surrounded by lazy fat people.

You don't have the test levels to do that, unless we're talking months with a calorie surplus.

HOW WOULD YOU LOSE WEIGHT FASTER WITH EXERCISE?

What the hell?

Run on a treadmill for 30 minutes, then go lift some weights for another 30 minutes. Boom. 500 calories or so (estimate) lost, WITH ADDITIONAL HEALTH BENEFITS of upping your metabolism so you continue to burn more calories, and gaining muscle so you still burn more calories. Now, eat 500 calories less than you normally do.

You've more than doubled what all you pathetic little girls are doing by only "dieting."

Ok so add up all those calories you would burn from exercise and the increased metabolic rate and subtract them from your daily caloric consumption. How is losing calories to exercise any different from losing calories to dieting???

Not that guy, but you should work on your reading comprehension. Calories lost to exercise should be attributed to your BMR, and you should THEN create a calorie deficit. Not the other way around.

OP. I'm 5'10", 36-29-43. I can run an eight minute mile, my abs and hips are defined, but i can tell you there is nothing you can do, besides losing mass, exercise wise about making your hips smaller. Stop eating excess sodium, drink more water, do a gut cleanse and don't drink alcohol, that should shave some off your waist. If you want to more proportional, it would be easier to just bulk your upper body.

Also, some required reading.

or you know, you could do both, and stop sounding like gym junkies and or ED kids. building muscles helps burn fat because muscle naturally burns fat faster just doing what it does, and diet is also a big part loosing weight, but you can only go so far only doing one or the other.

but you would lose them from increased physical activity. so either you don't consume them to begin with or you do consume them and burn them off with exercise. in terms of caloric deficit it is exactly the same.

I question the idea behind dieting to lose weight. As someone who has never dieted in her life, remained the same weight for 7 years, and weighs 100 lbs, I think there's something to be said for not fucking up your metabolism through yoyo dieting and crazy diets that appear in every magazine.

Something in your lifestyle and metabolism means that that's fine for you to be 100lbs regardless - however that isn't true for many people, and their lifestyle/metabolism combination means that they are heavier, possibly to the point of being overweight or obese. I agree that crazy dieting and yoyo dieting is not the way to go - it's actually changing your lifestyle in a way that will stick that truly allows people to lose weight and keep it off, including what you eat and what you do.

True enough for fats and proteins. But vitamins and minerals are essentially calorie-less and very necessary for proper bodily function, and the jury is still out on whether artificial means of getting them (such as vitamin pills) are as affective as normal consumption. And, as others have stated, exercise is GOOD for you - it's mood lifting, feels good, improves your lung and heart functioning, and not only can cause you to lose weight but gain muscle in areas where it is useful and improves your appearance. Why would you just not eat when instead you could enjoy the same foods your body craves and also benefit from the exercise you should be doing anyways?

>> No.6403159

>>6403126
You realize that the reason you have never dieted is BECAUSE you have maintained a constant low weight, right? It's unlikely it's the other way around.

That said, I agree that binge-dieting is terrible for your body and general emotional health. But your particular story doesn't provide any evidence for that.

Holy shit, full retard. If you put a certain amount of energy into the human body and you don't use it, it will be stored as fat. Use that stored energy, and it goes away. Counting calories will always work unless you're retarded.

funny thing is, that pic's not pearshaped, that's more like hourglass since the boobs to hips ratio is similar but she was a slim waist.
My pic is pear shaped. It's got almost zero boobs, but loads of hips.
Now onto your question. You're stupid. Simple as that. You either want the shape to be more prominent or you don't, also maybe if you did some spinning to tone your legs and but, it would reduce your hips, but then again that will only happen if your diet doesn't involve much fats, because if it's fat what you wanna lose then you're an idiot and you should idet, not exercise.
