Our school is pretty segregated, the well-mannered nerds and the otaku parade usually kept their distance, but all wanted to get into the library early so it resulted in us kind of congregating there before the bell and pretending we all got along. I'm in physics, so I don't meet a lot of women, but I'm sure there are plenty of intelligent ones in other fields. This isn't relevant at all. Most of the best books have been written in the past century(most of them by men). There are plentiful of good american writers (read the /lit/ sticky if you want info on this) and they're mostly men.

I agree on the part that we have to experience something to determine if it's good or not. But I'd rather not read some book about the midlife crisis of a soccer mom. I read books for entertainment and I don't find those kinds of book entertaining.

Actually, even 200 years ago there was huge stigma towards educated women writing. Women haven't been able to freely publish without stigma since around the 1940's. I know, shocking isn't it? Women haven't been allowed to contribute without stigma to scientific ventures since the 1950's. It was also very common for women to publish under their husband's names and not their own even as far back as the 1600's. Historian's are currently discovering that many great works of artists were actually done (in part) by their wives or female assistants.
