Last thread is autosaging. ACen 2013 is only 8 days away.

Also did we come to a consensus about a seagull meetup at ACen? Me and a couple of other seagulls are wondering about this. We need to make up our minds soon.

depends, what hotel are you staying at?
Only place to get liquor in walking distance from the con is the gas station by the mcdonald's. Or the overpriced hotel shops. There's a couple bars at the hotels and there's some MLB (some bank?) park place with a few bars.

Personally I'm arriving Thursday morning and staying Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday night, then arriving back home Sunday night. (I'm out of state.)

Dayum that's out of the way. Well, you should ask your hotel if they provide a shuttle but if not you can take 223 to the Rosemont CTA hub and walk from there http://www.pacebus.com/sub/schedules/route_detail.asp?RouteNo=223

Yeah that's what I was thinking but then I thought we could get a good sleep on Saturday night, because I know me and my group will end up staying up pretty late, and then spend Sunday just exploring Chicago, then go home Monday. But I don't know how acen typically is early Friday or if theres anything going on Thursday. Also I assume theres not much to do on Sunday in chicago because things would close early. But I don't know for sure since I've never been. I couldn't find the schedule on Acens website yet so it makes the decision harder.

I personally have no idea what >>6831159 is talking about. I've been to other big AP events with the designers there and from a guests perspective ACen's tea party was extreamly similar. Small party game thing with prizes, chat with your table, take pictures as a table, get up and wander around and mingle with the designers and other attendees, ending party game with prizes, little nibbles and tea in between. The food at ACen's wasn't the best but I assume that had to do with the fact that it was the Hyatt and not something that the event co-coordinators could do anything about. I will be attending the tea party this year anything from last year I should be aware of?

I enjoyed it even though I was running on 2hrs of sleep. Didn't like how they allowed vic mangina to crash it. They raffled off a ton of AP items (like 2-3 dresses/jsks and a skirt or two with a bunch of misc. stuff) Everyone was really pleasant and the hosts were friendly.

This is a conversation about the morality of doing it. Should they, not can they. This is irrelevant.

Because beyond being a heavy piece of machinery, something that is still considered a real fire arm, and something that could still be seen as a real firearm by the general public and attendees, forgive if I'm wrong but a rocket launcher is usually 5 feet in length or longer.

As far as the firearms argument goes, Illinois is one of the most clamped down states in the union.

They are a non-issue state.

I really don't understand why it's so hard to realize that there's a right place and a right time for different things. If you want to bring a deactivated WWII Bazooka or Panzerschreck out in public and play pretend, there are WWII reenactor sessions all throughout the midwest.

Otherwise learn to craft and make that shit out of resin.

I'm just going to briefly go over how Rosemont IL works, in case you're not from around here.

Rosemont was founded by old Italian thugs, it's a gated city to keep blacks and jews out. Every single cop is on the take and most were hired because they're related to, or know someone politically. It is perhaps the most corrupt city in America.

They have convention centers and they have all sorts of other fun things, like a casino in the next town for good reason, they bought it and can control it.

Do you know what happens to faggots who tote weapons around their little shit utopia?

Neither do I.

Rosemont is a mafia hub and it's why I can't fucking stand being there for Acen. Every tiny detail about the area, from the shit accommodations surrounding the area, to the casino that was magically built there a few years ago, was tailored by the mob to gouge the fuck of any poor soul that has to suffer staying there for any extended period of time. And EVERYBODY, especially the hotels, are in on the racket. I wish Chicago made better progress for conventions with McCormick though; unfortunately everything is so expensive when you start getting into the city.

To in-state seagulls, I'm sure you all know that feel. To out-of-state seagulls, the CTA is only a few blocks away from the Hyatt and will get you downtown Chicago for a few dollars in under an hour. It's super easy too; there's only one line to Chicago (blue line) and just head south.

I'm not exactly a "seagull", moreso just general longtime 4channer and there's no other place talking about ACEN.

No cosplay so I'll be in a red hawks shirt. Cause it's the cup.

I might be giving anime name that tune a try. Sounds fun.

>> No.6847365

Okay, so how would everyone review/rate the panesl/events they've been to so far?

I've always considered these panels here a joke since I don't consider ACen a convention for that. Its a cosplay convention, not an informative one. I went to three fan panels yersterday -- one about telling if an anime is good or not, a murder mystery panel, and one about Japanese mythology in anime. All of them were horribly disorganized and uninteresting. The Japanese mythology was probably the best, but the bitches had no idea what they were talking about and pretty much only read "tvtropes" and "wikipedia" (they listed those as their only references really).

Samurai Dan has been the highlight though. He brought in these two awesome bear-dogs and his stage show was awesome. I saw my friend compete in some fightan tournaments as well, which was neat.

Arrived late, had to wait till 1 to finally get my badge. Didn't get as much as I wanted.

Castlevania - Pretty cool, rundown of the history and panelists who definitely knew what they were talking about and fans just as into it chiming in a lot. That Leon cosplayer was unexpected and just awesome.

Japanese Mythology- Interesting yet boring as fuck at the same time. Probably the way the presenters did it. I did learn that shinigami was a western concept from Grimm though. That was fascinating.

Funny party in the fog - BEST PANEL. Real touhou lovers and all the music up my alley. I can't stop listening to end of days now. PI-HYARARA

The whole "Shinigami is a western concept" thing seems like common knowledge to me. To be fair, I have a bigger obsession of mythology than most people, so that's probably why I knew all nearly all the stuff, even that Kappas like cucumbers. Only thing I didn't really know was that their was a collective yokai for objects that come to life. I thought like "a living lantern" and a "living set of armor" would be two different yokai, not one. I even knew about the wheel that drags people to hell (because of Okami to be fair).

Well damn.

Put 16 people on to ambulances. Hope none of them were seagulls. Please note that bushes don't break falls well, giant suits with masks that cover your face probably don't help you stay conscious in a hot-ass rave, alcohol is okay in quantities less than half a gallon, and barbiturates don't mix well with ecstasy.

Also, throwing a punch at my paramedic partner is a Felony in the state of Illinois. (I'm just a med student, so you can hit me all you want with no repercussions). It probably wouldn't have been so bad if you hadn't done it in the presence of two fucking police officers.

Anyway, you might have seen me run around carrying a giant blue bag or shouting at people to move out of the way (sorry bout that). I worked on night shift and was the one that wasn't wearing a hat.

>> No.6850264

That was probably PD. Unless the congoers touch IRT, they can't really touch the guests. However, if they swing or attack IRT, then it becomes "Self defense".

It was nice grabbing a few of the fucking GIANTS that work IRT to serve as visual intimidation while I talked down a belligerent. I got to play good cop with them.

It was fun, really. Pretty straight forward.

>>6850066

Possibly. There were two that night. I was in on one assault on EMRT (which was odd because we aren't cops, we weren't there to punish anyone). There was another assault where my senior, Medic 3, basically pinned the guy down with his knee.

The team at work are all actual EMT-Ps (myself being the exception), so it was fun as fuck sharing war stories on the downtime.

It was too bad I couldn't see any of you though! I was hopin' to get a boardgame going. Working the night shift meant that I was waking up at ~2-3 PM and trying to see as much of the con as possible. I figured I'd get the most out of panels, but I think next time I'll just find people and chill with them and make a few friends.

For me most well made/best looking/etc toss up between the power rangers and that iron man with the helmet that goes up or down via switch.

Most unexpected: For me it was Kato Marika or Hataraku Maou. Not only are they recent but weren't that big too. That was nice.

Both sound like what happened outside my room. I woke up because of shouting and listened through the door. Sounded like sound guy swung at someone he wasn't suppose to. When I went outside to see, there were at least four men holding this guy down, someone said "you're spending the night in jail" and the police came and said, "oh you again." I was pretty surprised to see so many people out there.

I saw that they had EMT waiting outside the rave, just sitting there. Gotta say its pretty pathetic how they have to pre-plan for these disruptive and drug abusing people. The con in my city has very little of this bullshit and is still an over 20k attendance con. I know there's many wonderful people there, and I met many of them, but those who cause this shit should be seriously ashamed of themselves.

Might have been me. I wasn't wearing a hat.

It's a good thing that we are there, though. Avoiding major adverse outcomes (and liability) is often best avoided with an early response.

Yeah, it's too bad that people make decisions like this. But it's going to happen with a rave this size. The vast majority of people (some 99%) are responsible.

Half of my fun is fucking with congoers who have altered mental status. Examples include, the meow game, making them perform absurd dances as part of a "sobriety test", and including absurd questions in the MMSE ("what's your name? What's today's date? Where are you right now? Who's the president? Who's the president of russia?... He doesn't know the president of russia. He's clearly hammered.
