There's a sort of checklist that helps you out but you don't have to follow every single rule. (For example, picking to wear a smaller amount of layers during hot times.)

I'd say it's what others have summarized, it's not flashy, it's comfy and it is something that is sort of stacked on. Sometimes it follows the foresty theme and sometimes it follows more of a vintage feel.

I see them on the streets relatively often. I guess they just don't post much on the internet, for the same reason you don't see many chubby Japanese lolitas posting: Japanese people on the internet are usually mad harsh towards bigger girls.

It's ironic, because mori is a very welcoming style for a larger shape. Everything is loose, flowy A-lines, and if you want to cover your body up there are endless combinations of jackets and collars and ponchos and scarves you can play with.

I'm planning on wearing mori, I've collected a few things so far but I won't really begin to wear it until I've lost a little more weight. (Health reasons more than anything.) But seeing the pics gets me inspired and I keep pushing.

I know Kamikaze Girls is old school and not cool at all anymore, but there's that part in it where Momoko says that everyone dresses the way they do because they wish to make others perceive them in a certain way- like if you wear mori, you probably want people to see you as someone who likes pretty things but isn't too fussy, probably gives at least a couple of fucks about the environment, is more comfortable when she's not showing a lot of skin, etc.

Loose, flowy lines and lots of layers tend to make fat girls look fatter. Defining the smallest part of the waist, tailored shapes, and not layering thick, bulky things on to make you look even more like you take up all the space in the universe.

That's why anorexics who are trying to hide the fact that they are dangerously underweight tend to wear loose, baggy clothing and why when the fashionable thing was for women to be chubby by modern standards at different points in history, those points tend to favor more fitted bodices and lots of shaping garments that create an hourglass figure.

People will think what they want, no matter what you are wearing. I stopped caring a while ago. That girl might be chubby, but she has a small frame, which really makes all the difference in mori. I'm 100 pounds sopping wet but my shoulders are massive, and since mori hangs off of your frame rather than clinging to it, I look like a circus tent in the style. But if you have small shoulders and can get the clothing to drape over you properly, it doesn't matter if you're sickly thin or quite chubby (barring hamplanets, of course), mori will look cute on you.
