7045479 No.7045479 [Reply] [Original]

General crossplaying, post tips and tricks for both FTM and MTF crossplaying and share good examples.

To kick the thread off: Any binder recommendations? I have a full length one from underworks which isn't bad by any standard, but the material isn't the most comfortable and it tends to roll up. I have about a C, I think? But my breasts are rather firm so I have the problem where they at times are pushed to create a cleavage inside the binder even if it is completely flat if I don't watch them...

Either way, I'll post what I have in the meantime.

I get that looking for drag queen shoes for the guys is a good idea, same with buying women's shoes directed at women with large feet, but anyone have any experience with it? Reviews?

This is mostly good advice, but that last tip about the woman's deodorant always makes me cringe. Apart from smell, deodorant is pretty much the same between sexes.

I would recommend everyone at cons - man, woman, anything in between - use a non-scented anti-perspirant, the kind you can get in more medically-inclined places. It's so much better for getting rid of confunk than masking it with a chemical scent.

>If you can smell your own deodorant/perfume and you've put it on more than half an hour ago
Fixed.

A thing done by horrible smelly people worthy of contempt is assume that because they stop smelling their deodorant/body spray/perfume after a while, then it's worn off and they need to apply more, and more, and more, until flies near them drop out of the sky and small children run away from them in tears. Truth is, the nose gets 'tired' over time and blocks out smells.

All this said (and speaking as a person allergic to spray deodorants) I would rather smell all the Lynx in the world than stand behind your average foul convention hydrophobe. Jesus CHRIST, why are there so many smelly nerds? It's not even a problem that requires deodorant to fix, only BASIC FUCKING WASHING. When I am elected Queen of Conventions, I am making everyone sign an agreement that they will shower each morning before they come in, and that anyone smelling like a leprotic turd in a corpse factory will be thrown out.

And it is a thing, unfortunately, that cis cosplayers reblog trans people's binder giveaways and then whine that they have the right to. They're for trans people, mostly teens, who can't use a credit card online or literally can't afford a binder, and you've got cosplay girls going "but I want to accurately portray a character and I can't affooooord it." I'm a FTM who occasionally crossplays as female characters for jokes. There must be more of us.

Once you've transitioned and your body is how you thought it should be, it no longer matters which gender clothing you wear or if you're dressing as your original gender as a joke, because all that matters is that if someone were to rip off your clothes you'd look like the gender opposite of what you were born. It's the fact that you could "prove" you are the "correct" gender if you want, or that in everyday life it'd be obvious which gender you were, it's not about "crossplay = wishing to be that gender" or feeling any need to go back to the gender you transitioned from.

Not sure if I'm making sense there. I just wanted to clear that up.

In theory, a transman should be able to crossplay a female character. I'm cisgendered female, and when I crossplay as a male character, that doesn't mean I want to be male.
The problem comes in, and why a lot of trans* folk avoid crossplaying, is that people make assumptions based off of trans* folk crossplaying. There's the possibility of looking like a fake, just like you say.
We could argue that trans* people should not crossplay in order to avoid the misunderstanding, but it's a lot harder to argue that simply by crossplaying they are 'revoking' their identity gender.

Now if they never presented as their identity gender in day to day life? That's a different argument. It can go along with crossplay, eg "They never present as male in everyday life and always cosplay females!", but not "They present as male in everyday life but sometimes cosplay females!"

>> No.7059215

Yeah, I do it as a joke. Yeah, really.

A man who was born a man can crossplay as a joke. So can a man who was born a woman. There's no difference to me. If you haven't finished transitioning and/or are not passing as male to begin with, that's another story. But in that case you wouldn't want to crossplay for the life of you.

I know plenty of trans people who cosplay and crossplay. Guess what? People who crossplay aren't temporarily "becoming" that gender. Guys who crossplay are still guys. Exactly. People have a hard time understanding that not everything is linked/related. In a way, I think it's like how some people think a person crossplaying is gay or lesbian automatically. That's not how it works though.

There are a ton of possible combinations for any given individual who happens to be straight/gay/bi/etc., male/female/transgendered/gender-neutral/etc., who cosplays or crossplays or does whatever the fuck they want. I guess since the human brain wants to create links/relate things, one could argue that gender, sexuality, and whether they cosplay/crossplay IS related, but only for that individual because it's part of their identity. That said, it's an individual's identity, not the identity or attributes of a larger population or group.

You could always try the homemade binder technique and buy/import the extra wide elastic, throw in hooks/eyes tape and save money that way.

Tutorial here:
http://www.deviantart.com/art/Home-Made-Binding-Tutorial-203524180

Example of the elastic: http://www.designeralleyfabrics.com/prod-1104.htm They ship internationally.

If you can't get your hands on that, there is a very ghetto way of making the above binder using the extra wide ACE bandages. Since you are cutting lengths of it and finishing the edges with hooks and eyes, it cannot continue constricting as you move throughout the day.

I'm a 32J and bind for crossplay regularly. For me, binding is about knowing how to use posture, using a sports bra under the binder, and tucking my boobs to the side and down. There's a little bit of boobloaf going on, but it's not too bad. I've just accepted that I'll never get truly flat. Pic related, I'm on the left.

Seems fine to me and you're right, posturing is a lot of it.

To be honest, I don't understand why many girls aim to be "truly flat". It's not the only way to look more masculine. I'm a 34B and even I can't get "truly flat" with my binder because there is muscle under there. That said, if you can get flat enough to pass boobs off as nicely shaped pecs under whatever you're wearing, you're fine as many guys aren't even "truly flat" and I'm not even talking about just the bodybuilders.

The binder has not arrived yet( I get the impression the influx of purchases has taken their shipping department aback), but I will definitely report on whether it is effective when it does!

Also, to answer the question about binding: it's really hard. It's sometimes a bit upsetting because it's like, sometimes I wanna just not have boobs all over and my wraparound is really, really crappy, and it's so thick that it hardly works for stuff that isn't multilayered and loose. I'm hoping that this one works, since I heard good testimonials, and hey, ten dollars doesn't destroy my budget.

It's so, soo hard to find reasonable binding options. Underworks smalls are too small for me to get into, but their mediums are practically just a regular tank top on me. It's kinda weird, too, since my boobs feel very "dense" to me -- is that a weird way to describe them?
