I bought these shades from a StoreEnvy store, and I really like them. My eyes can be seen through them, so I have to work around that, or consider getting orange contacts. My issue is the screws, though. The screws are pretty noticeable. What should I use to paint them black with with? I read that I should use black nail polish.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of fantasy and science fiction novels. Anne McCaffrey, L.E. Modesitt Jr., and Ben Bova are some of the authors I like that I can think of off the top of my head. Anyway, it was pretty simple. For the bit over the face, I just made a rectangle and folded it over so that the folds, when cut near the base, would fold over the next one's seam. The bit covering the top of the head was done in strips folded back and then sewn onto a piece beneath them (It still needs to be properly cut and frayed, like the rest of it), and the cone was just a bunch of strips sewn onto another piece that was wrapped around a base structure inside it. It starts out "Flat" from behind another ridge, then wraps around back under itself so it looks like it's all one piece.

Make up's atrocious. Smooth that out, and have your hands match your face. The mirror in the chest is completely pointless since the purple wrap is supposed to cover up her wound. Green paint on wrap could be more solid and less perfect-circle-y. Chainsaw's not bad but needs a second or more layer of paint and possibly some sanding. The lines on the skirt should be more prominent. And, personal preference, the skirt should be longer and tighter. Horns are really thin and she could do with some eye make up.

Tattoos are non canon near the wrist and uneven as all hell. Once again hands are lighter than face, invest in better make up or better setter. Piercing's off centre, and the dress bunches at the waist (most notable on the symbol) where it should be smooth. Dress doesn't look like it fits her butt. Horns could use a better paint job (it's really jarring from the yellow to the orange).

The last con I went to- Otakon, I did a layman's count of how many cosplays weren't anime. Granted, SNK groups amped up the Anime portion more than the previous year, but I'd say a healthy 50% were from things that weren't of Asian origin.

Just to name a few, Assassin's Creed, Doctor Who/BBC Clusterfuck, Adventure Time, Avengers/Marvel, Supernatural(?! There was a big group on Sunday) and an assortment of nostalgia-bomb kind of programs (Hey Arnold, etc) and so forth.

Yes, Homestuck was a pretty stiff portion of that, but I think most Anime conventions are moving toward pop culture gatherings than Anime Conventions anyhow. And cons would be wise to embrace that, really. It would only grow their numbers.

When a cosplay is as simple as Alpha Dave, there's no such thing as nitpicking. basically, the shoots organizer started the photoshoot off by having everyone sit in a designated location and then scolded everyone at the top of her lungs about her personal experience with other homestucks/being a homestuck.
she went on to say we were all immature and needed to straighten up so we could be respected but, a simple "Hey guys, lets be on our best behavior" would have sufficed as opposed to her getting emotional and parading up and down the hall like a dictator.

a lot of people just got up and left.

i nearly lost it when i heard her say "no, I dont need to calm down, im fine"

Basically Heroes of Cosplay showed up early for their filming timeslot and forced all of the Homestucks out of their scheduled area, which was also the only indoor meeting area large enough to hold them. Everyone was forced into a different place where they had to try to hold half the group in different rooms to keep it from getting even more crowded.

As though I needed even more reason to hate HOC.

Yeah, I'm still a seething ball of rage at this. I was late to the meetup, but I wish I had been on time to tell those fucks to take a leap off the balcony if they wanted to get back down to the lobby. They weren't D*Con staff or hotel staff, just tv douchebags and had no authority to kick people out. While reserving areas in advance of the con isn't officially recognized, it's certainly an unspoken rule that people abide by and common fucking courtesy. But not if you're a Hero of Cosplay. so I'm in PA and haven't been too impressed with the crowd there. its a trip both ways but I've been looking into the NYC and MD crowds. I see there is going to be an nycstuck sock hop party or something in Octobver? anyone have any info about this crowd and if this party thing would be worth the trip?

im doing grimbark jade soon and i really want my eyes to look cool. im having a bit of trouble though! the comic switches from looking pure white to bright green and i dont know if i should just invest in some white mesh contacts or just go for some creepy uv light bright ass green ones. any advice?

Aside from most of the kids doing fandom hopping from this to more popular series, what could be done so that people don't automatically sneer and jeer at Homestuck no matter the context? Someone mentions wanting to cosplay Homestuck and they get derided, for instance. Is there anything that could be done? Are we just supposed to face this stigma of apparently being the worst fandom?

Imo, though, the only costumes that are even worth not sneering at are AU costumes and possibly the ancestors, since there's more complicated takes that are possible with those. Homestuck outfits are just too simple, and the batshit fandom doesn't help, either.

Basically just try not to be insane, have good quality cosplays even if you're doing simiple designs, and hopefully the stigma will just fade away as Homestuck dies.

There are definitely some imperfections... the stiletto boots, the flat hair, the fit of the coat.. An attempt was made, and I can at least appreciate the idea behind the front cut of the coat. I like that it attempts to show the skirt and isn't just one long formless trenchcoat-type thing.
