Anyone off to Play Expo this weekend?

Play Expo - October 12/13
MCM London Comic Con - October 25/27
Doki Doki - November 9
Birmingham MCM Expo - November 23/24

And that's pretty much it for this years cons. How's everyone getting on with cosplay plans this year? Or is everyone already underway planning for next years cons?

To continue on the SCG name change.

>SCG - Super Cosplay Girls As a Major cosplay group, we felt the "sexy" part of our name was hindering us as an ambassador for Cosplaying in general. Too many doors were being closed because of the possibility that SCG was a biased group to "good looking Men and Women". We want to change that, and prove that we support and encourage all amazing cosplays and cosplayers alike.. regardless of body shape or size! We hope you like the new direction we have chosen and continue to support us on our new journey. - Wolfe

But then their entire fan base would disappear. It's no different from making a "Sexy girls" facebook page and asking people to submit pictures of sexy girls for guys to add to their fap banks. Look at most of the comments, it's just neck beards and mouth breathers trying to make innuendos.

I doubt it will change the general attitude of the page.

If you are into gaming you would probably want to go to Eurogamer Expos. As for anime related events you would want to go to a convention and Ayacon is generally the better event to go to (although I've never gone before and have only stuck to London MCM Expo), but as many on here have said before you may want to avoid event run my Mike Towers due to more than a few negatives mentioned before.

>>7150288
You generally get figures from games and animes, you can get anime DVDs or Blu-rays and manga too. There are also posters too.
You can get the odd hentai manga, dvds or games too and there is always different people's stories or experiences of the YAOI Guy.

As for the items if you've seen certain anime related merchandise before it's likely you will see the same sort of stuff at the event.

For activities there is the seagull meet which is suppose to entirely be relevant to anons on here who are going to the event and in the event you can take in game card tournaments such as Yu-gi-oh (I know a bit about it) and Magic Then Gathering (know hardly anything about it other than it's there).

There is also the cosplay photo shoots and competitions, and there's also participating in discussions or questions and answers in the stage/seating areas for games, films or other relevant things to the event.

The names pretty misleading too. It's nowhere near anything like MCM, Play or anything else that calls itself an Expo. It looks like it might have quite a bit more going on this year, but previously it's been more a small trade fair/conference with a few stalls, gaming areas and a little too much promoting the uni as super epic place to go if you want to get a job in video games.

Late reply but w/e I'm doing Japanese at SOAS and if it's weebs and weeb activities you want then you're looking at the right place
Maybe my years an exception to >>7150686 's friends because although p much everyone is a secret weeb they are all nice, normal and capable of normal social interaction. The serious weebs have mostly dropped out already (the drop out rate is insane around 50% by the end of first year?)
The anime club isn't anything to shout about though

There wasn't a map available at the centre except at the info booth. I was looking for a particular stand and managed to walk around the expo main hall for 2 hours trying to find it. I went outside to the booth to ask if they could tell me if the booth was there (it was a Bushiroad game space) and they explained that the expo was split onto two sides. Went to the other side, there's a massive Konami space for playing konami games. The map they had showed the bushiroad space as being right next to it, but again it wasn't there. Turns out they have S4 and S3, and haven't taken the wall down between the two. Walk into S4 and there's NOBODY in there because no-one has found it, and tons of companies looking distinctly unhappy.
Which means I'm having to go back today to find the other shops I was looking for whilst walking around.

Anyway, if you're not already there, I would recommend taking the cable car from North Greenwich. It lands a few minutes away from the centre, and it means you don't have to get a shitty replacement bus service. You get a lovely view of the Thames and it can be paid for with your Oyster.

Well how else do you want people to pose? Just stand there and look bored? It's best when they pose in character. The main issue I always have is there are too many people around and it's difficult to get a person to move to a place where you can get a shot without people behind them or some weird objects like bins etc.

I know some folks go into the car parks etc to shoot just because of this.

I was thinking of getting some folks to go to a location and take a set of shots with something that enhances their character(s) and makes it look both dramatic and professional with good lighting, good lenses etc.

I do realize however that most folks are happy with the shots they get on compacts and mobile phones. But for those who put some real effort into their costumes/makeup perhaps they would like something a bit more 'pro'?

I agree with you on the statue being a bad choice, as it seems like everyone used it, from the numerous doctors to the night-vales. This whole talk of meet ups is a bit... eh. Guys, I tried a CGL meetup and it sucked balls. We're all friends there, sharing vodka, booze, chips, crisps, drink even letting people stay over at our places.

Who needs a meet up, it's more fun to socialise. Honestly, next expo, don't plan shit, just go nuts. Avoid mosh pits.

Next event I will hire a hooker and other someone to join me if they're good with going halves on the cost.

Oh I saw you. I was Magikarp yesterday.

There were a few people who seemed to be seagull-esque, but I didn't want to ask. I made friends either way. From now on let's all just dance to the DJ and not worry so much about meets. It's hard enough finding people as it is.

Not the hooker, it would be the other person who is getting in on the action with me.
