The dress is shit halloween store, the ears and tail don't match the color of the dress, those socks came out of fucking nowhere (why would they have purple bows?), and the shoes are shit. not to mention her complete lack of attempt to make that headband sit on her head well.

If she wanted it to be good, the dress and ears should have matched, the dress should have white on the chest like a fucking Eevee does, the socks should have been tan, the shoes would be acceptable being dark brown or tan, probably boots, and she should be wearing a wig so her hair is the correct color for Eevee.

Fuck, I know that Gijinka has a lot of room for interpretation, but it should still be recognizable if you remove the ears and tail.

If a woman has a cameltoe, it means it's TOO tight or, like the picture in question, they forced the pants too far up. So it's their own fault.
But then, there's a difference between a bulge and being able to see the whole outline of the guy's balls and everything. That's disgusting.

It's basically summed up as most of the time bulges are just a result of male anatomy mixed with non-baggy clothing, while cameltoes are a result of women not dressing themselves correctly.

Honestly I've hated Shingeki fags for this argument well before the anime aired. They'd bring it up in manga art threads on /a/ and I'd always give them shit. I'm not sure if they still think the manga is well-drawn, as they keep it to single threads now that there are so many fans. They certainly don't post in art threads now.

The common argument is that his scratchy style fits the action, though I believe it's a manifestation of poor line art and lack of knowledge about movement. It's a shame because the manga could benefit greatly from better character designs (execution of the designs might be a better way to say it) and better composition during action scenes. He adds all these motion lines but in many cases the composition makes it so that it's just not dynamic. It doesn't look the character is moving he's just covered in scratchy black things.

To you, given how the series exploded in both US and Japan there has to be some sort of appeal. The story is good, the uniforms look cool, the universe is intriguing and the lore has enough unanswered questions to keep readers coming back. It's a different art style than other manga, and after seeing that other artist draw those spin-offs, I just think that the scratchy details fit in with the overall style.
I'm not saying 'wow its so amazing best in the world so great!' or anything, but where he fails he's also better at other artists for. Many mangakas have a horrible case of 'sameface,' where all characters look the same. Or, as a next step, they have different faces but all the same body types. He at least is good with character design, and not only is every character different, but you can tell familial resemblance clearly. And it's also my personal opinion that he draws faces, particularly eyes, very well. He's able to tie their features(again, particularly the eyes) into what the characters are like. Bert's eyes often look clouded-over, and Christa's look clear and innocent, etc.

He's not the most amazing artist, but his art isn't completely horrible like you seem to try to make it out to be. It has its strengths.

He does the basic "add identifiers to a base". One has a part and a cravat, that one has freckles, she'll have a hook nose, let's give this one an innocent look. The scratchiness I'm talking about is with line quality, just compare the woman there in that Ito manga and any static frame of a character in Shingeki. It's his line work I'm talking about. The woman there has a smooth outline, her hand is defined, and she stands out in the composition (something Shingeki is SHIT at). The bodies and her reaction are scratchy, but look great. A lot of Miura's art uses that same technique for shading. It does not look good in Shingeki. It is poorly drawn, and like I said, it does not add to the terror. Things we can really relate to or understand are often more terrifying. I feel the titans would be significantly more scary if they were well drawn.

He most definitely was NOT an amateur when he drew Berserk Prototype. He had already won awards and been featured in Weekly Shonen Jump at that time.

Isayama is most definitely an amateur. SnK is his first serial, started only three years after he began his career. He has two other one shot projects to his name.

While I don't think his art is spectacular by any means, it is pretty good, and he manages to avert generic cuteness and give us characters we could recognize naked and bald - pretty impressive considering the sheer size of the cast. It's also interesting to watch him improve as the series goes on; compare chapter 1 to chapter 50, he's really coming into his own.

Isayama is a professional, as he is paid for his work. Also three years is a long time in a career, he's not exactly an amateur. His art is not good, and the one point you've used to defend it, the character design, is not good. "Generic cuteness" is not the look of all manga, the fact that you see it as something to be commended shows you haven't read a good deal of manga.

Anime is a little different, but most of the time designs are simplified to minimize animation costs. The shingeki anime cut costs with other ways, and I'd be willing to show you those cuts. Generic cuteness isn't always bad, and poor art isn't always bad, but Isayama's art is not good and should not be considered as such.

This entire time I have not commented on the overall quality of the series or my personal opinions on the series as a whole. Your only defense of the art has been the character designs, which I don't agree with. Huh. I mean, I really do agree that the art ranges from bad to just-passing-as-professional throughout the course of the story. It honestly does.

And I know this isn't really an argument, but as a fan of the manga, I honestly like the style anyways. Isayama is clearly more dedicated to developing the story than honing his artistic abilities (though I must say it is a bit disappointing seeing as we only get monthly releases). With how much of a downer the plot can be at times, I find the bad faces/proportions fucking hilarious. They're dissonant to the story and in my opinion, it works in some serendipitous way. They're something to laugh at and find amusing, and we've gotten some priceless reaction images out of it.

I guess my point is that, even though I'm usually picky about art styles, I find SnK's more fun/unintentionally appropriate than cringe-worthy and a turn-off to the story.
