I came to Japan in 2008, hon. My health was fine. I was diagnosed with thyroid disease in January 2012, fibro in April/May 2013, told I had comorbid CFS earlier this month, and developed the blood clot two weeks ago.

In her defense, hypo thyroid disease can make you gain weight no matter what you eat. The disease slows down the metabolism, one can't help that no matter what they eat. Of course one could watch what they eat and try a better diet/exercise plan in order to try avoid gaining or keeping the weight they already have, but hypothyroid disease can also kick start depression, which would keep one from wanting to try. I don't know her lifestyle choices or anything, but neither do you. The disease certainly isn't "the only reason I'm big/can't lose weight/etc.", but the disease does have an affect on someone's life.

Once we found my proper dose of thyroid hormone I started losing weight much easily, but between antidepressants and being put on a very high dose of Lyrica, I quickly gained a lot of weight. I've been off that high dose of Lyrica for several months now and lost 10kg. I was put back on it recently but at a much smaller dose and my weight shot back up again. Came off it and its going back down once more.

It doesn't help that I'm exhausted all the time. I can only do things in short bursts at a time, and if I overdo it I'm bedridden for days. I do a lot of walking especially now because of my DVT.

Lyrica? I was on it originally because I had 2 blown discs in my back, so it was control the sciatica. My hernias healed, so I was weaned off it. I was put back on it by my rheumatologist for fibro pain but the weight gain and horrifically violent nightmares were enough to get him to take me off it again. Also, take an honest look at how much you actually eat. Many people don't realize how calories stack up throughout the day. I try to stick to 1500 a day, as I'm small, have a low BMR, and only run a bit every day, and I go over really easily despite eating fairly healthfully.
