What's /cgl/ know about Ever After High?

I got extremely wasted on some kush, caught the first two episodes on netflix and it's adorable. It's littered with cute fashion, funny little jokes and a fun story line. Maybe I was just high, but I loved it. I just wondered if there were people in the community who knew about it and loved it like I do. I can't wait to see more.

I hope this series gets insanely popular.
for reals, I would much rather be known as 'those princess girls' or royals or what-have-you rather than "those living dolls from tlc's my strange addiction!"
although it occurs to me that since they *will* be making dolls for EAH, this is probably the perfect crossover of lolita/'dolly' fashion that Venus Angelic was hoping for when she coined the term 'dollita' and maybe I should be nervous about what this heralds as far as our public image. it might just reinforce the idea that we all want to be bobbleheaded twig-figured anime girls.

Yeah, my local walmart is awful when it comes to EAH and MH. They have absolutely NO MH dolls and the only EAH dolls they got are Cupid and the Ashyln & Hunter 2 pk. They've got more god damn Equestria girls dolls then even the EAH dolls. Thankfully the local Toys'r'us is better about their stock. I can actually find new MH & EAH dolls there.

Actually her shoes matched her headbow.

Insofar as lolita styling goes, I find her coordinate's just really lacking because everything she's wearing is so simple, but I understand the animators may have simplified it rather than draw a million pintucks and ruffles that they thought they didn't need to. I really wouldn't wear this coordinate and call it lolita fashion though.

Apple and Maddie both have lolita influences too. Not straight up lolita but definitely influenced. Lots of background charaters too, and the recently posted pics of Cedar show her to have a pink printed dress that looks pretty loliita too.

I'm still convinced there's a lolita on the design team. Even if its not straight up lolita (cus for real Mattel is not gonna give two craps about "the rules") it definitely reeks of it.

To be fair, Draculaura in MH has been said to have an interest in Harajuku fasion so it's not unheard of that the designers might be taking some nods from "quirky Japanese fashion" for their MH and/or EAH lines.

Just out of curiosity, why does this matter so much to you anyway? The top of Apple's outfit resembles a prom dress rather than lolita.

Madeline's dress seems to have a shiny sequined bodice and sparkle tulle, which makes it look more prom like a prom dress than a lolita dress. Besides, the colour and print combinations are so bad, anybody attempting to tag this as lolita would probably end up being posted in the ita thread.

Seriously, just let it go. Whatever influences are in the designs, the results turned out more prom dressy than lolita. Why do you care so much whether lolitas accept these or not anyway?

It's not based off of Disney canon, obviously. There's not much to "explain". Calm your shit.

In the book, they make comments about why Apple is born blonde. Her Father is blonde and her Mother is ebony haired. That's just tough shit. It's how it is.

These aren't direct descendants. In EAH world, it's a practice that has gone on for years since the fairy tales were first written. Basically, each year, the children promise to relive their parents stories in order to preserve them so that they won't ever be forgotten. Each fairy tale has it's own kingdom. Apple White pledges to follow in her Mother's footsteps, relive the tale of 'Snow White' (and is unafraid of her poisoning), and eventually rise to become the next Queen. Briar will relive the tale of 'Sleeping Beauty' and also, eventually, become a Queen.

Theyre not based off the Disney princesses, and are the daughters of the fairytale princesses instead.

Yes Snow White's original fairy tale mentions she has black hair, but does not mention her prince's hair color. Snow White could be carrying a blonde gene for all we know, as could her prince. They bang, they produce a blonde kid, they name her Apple.

Honestly the only thing I'm confused about is whether Prince Daring is someone's brother? I mean, logically he'd have to be, he's the son of Prince Charming who definitely got with one of the previous princesses. And all the princesses seem to be accounted for so

I get why you'd think I was serious, since I've seen some idiots get all up in arms. Like that one girl who made a comic with Red and had the woodsman be a bad guy. People just pooped all over the floor. It didn't phase them that in the same comic Red was a wolf girl, though? People choose weird things to get upset about.

I didn't actually know the plot beyond the OP picture. Having the children of the fairytale MCs sounds neat. The haircolor seems like a good way to make that distinction.

Basically the whole franchise (both Ever After and Monster High) is that the characters are the teen children of the famous characters. Monster High is more loose and pretty much just "here is a teenage Frankenstein girl and a vampire, what hijinks are they up to today". Ever After High has more of an overall plot, where the teens are supposed to pledge to recreate the stories of their parents, and their parents before that. There's a plot twist of some characters refusing to go along with this and trying to control their own destiny.
Each show has its own morals I guess. Monster High seems more about accepting everyone's differences and being friends, Ever After is about following your own dreams instead of everyone elses expectations.

I think the real life equivalent of her shoes would be black pointes. And well, I love pointes. The shoes of the doll (if she ever gets one) will look awkward as fuck, for the shape of the feet does'nt allow them to stand on their toes. Hence the weird look of the shoes in the webpisode, that are probably similar to what is intended for the doll.

As for the hair, it's a little too puffy.
But I love her dress, dark eyes and character. She's an excellent villain and my fav character. I want to both slap and hug her.

While I do believe some elements could be considered Lolita, I do not believe they were aiming for that look, anon.

They got inspired by old fairytale princesses and tried to give them a modern twist. I think it's more of a coincidence that they look like they got influenced by Lolita fashion.

>> No.7377498

>>7377255
Different anon but seriously? It's 2014. These coincidences AREN'T coincidences. Mattel, like most consumer/product industries, have design teams. Those design teams do their RESEARCH.

For a fashion doll they are obviously going to look at up and coming trends- which include Lolita fashion. They probably have a lolita on their team as well. The whole team would have to have great fashion sense and insight to be working in this competitive field.

And before you say that I'm making assumptions, I've worked at Disney Consumer Products North America. I'm a lolita. We have research and POP boards for all the merchandising line from toys, fashion, accessories, home goods, and licensees. I've seen lolita brands and j-fashion photos pinned on these boards all the time. We even look at what Disney Japan is doing.

>> No.7377715

You guys.

The original reason I posted that these outfits should not be accepted as lolita is because I don't want the lolita tag being spammed with them.

We get enough itas in miniskirts and cat ears claiming lolita influence as it is. Let's just keep this one out, ok.

>> No.7377795

>>7377715
I personally don't think anyone will tag these outfits as strictly lolita but it's pretty narrow-minded to think some of the characters had absolutely no lolita fashion influence. I look forward to seeing more cosplays of EAH. I doubt they will be called or accepted as lolitas since they are characters.

>> No.7378020

>>7377498
Why do you want to believe it so much? The only remotely lolita one is the Goldilocks character. No one really cares about lolita outside the fashion, and the characters that you're pushing for don't even look lolita to lolitas. Lolita will never be trendy in mainstream fashion, deal with it.

>> No.7378046

>>7377795

Actually most of the anons arguing against it don't actually say it's totally entirely devoid of lolita influence. There's no way to tell what influences the designers had.

What they're arguing is that the end results don't look lolita. Most of them do look closer to prom dresses, 80s fashion, fluffy couture dresses, a whole bunch of other things.

A design can contain lolita influences. That doesn't mean the result is a lolita outfit.

Saying that something is "lolita influenced" also doesn't mean all lolitas are going to come into this thread and automatically love EAH just because "lolita influences". Remember, lolitas have had a long history of speshul weeaboo snowflakes tagging all kinds of crap as "lolita influenced" and we've mostly hated them all.

I don't think you know how trends work. To say no one cares about lolita outside of the fashion is completely false. While we are a small niche group, it is expanding. Just how punks from London started small and now they continue to be "trendy" and have added punk elements to mainstream fashion. I don't think lolita will ever become mainstream, but it doesn't mean it isn't trendy. Brands are expanding to cater to customers outside of Japan. Indie brands from China, Korea, and Taiwan are popping up everywhere. How can you say it's not trending? Where do you think trends start or come from?

Same with EAH, their designs look lolita influenced but obviously designed to appeal to children and mass markets. I've been contacted by Jada Toys (who make Cutie Pops) for an open girls graphic design position awhile back. They found me through my previous experience at Disney. I don't like these dolls though. The Japanese government even appointed 4 women, one being Misako representing Lolita fashion, as Kawaii Ambassadors- as silly as it sounds. Even their government knows how valuable exports on Japanese pop culture effect their economy.
