Is it acceptable to make Nonon's skull beret smaller?

I had plans to make it full sized, but I can't figure out a way to do it that it won't either look like shit, or be too heavy to stay on properly.

I have headache problems so I can't hook the adjuster straps on my wigs without getting a crazy migraine. Added weight on the wig puts me in danger of losing it.

I was going to use cotton batting to stuff the hat so it would keep its shape, but then it would be heavy on one side and slide off. I tried using newspaper instead, but I can't get it to be smooth then, and it looks lumpy and not good in /addition/ to sliding off.

I tried using a folded piece of cardstock, I bent and taped it into the shape I wanted, but that looked like shit too.

Would it be okay to just... use a smaller hat?

I'll do a last comment on the wig:
Looks like this girl is trying to translate anime hair to real life. The black parts of her hair aren't glued together in perfect spikes either.
She didn't make it so the red was brushed into the strands of the black, like we've seen other cosplayers do. It all starts in the same place, she just decided to go a more realistic route with how the ends would look.
I might argue that it's a bit long, but I like how she made it.
On the costume:
I think the skirt is a little too low and short. If we look back up here: >>7411565
Ryuko's skirt sits just above her hipbones, where it looks like it hits this girl more at the hipbones.
It would also help with my second thought: flare. It looks boxy. If the skirt started above her hipbones, it would have more to flare off of.
I like the glove, it looks nice. Seconding the eyepatch/eyepatch's X is too low. The stripes are a little big, but it looks cartoony, so it might get a pass if you look at it that way. Though since she's going the realistic route with her wig, it should reflect on the rest of her costume too.

Could I ask what exactly the things on the sides of Ryuko's hips are? Pouches? Holsters? Guards? I don't get it.

Custom made or they commissioned someone. Zentai suits have a different fabric than what most cosplayers are using, so I assume they do mockups via tape/saran wrap and then make patterns from there, using trashbag fabric.

Too much is usually too little, honestly. Think more theater and less daily-wear. You're probably used to seeing yourself in what you paint on every day, with "over the top" meaning bright lipstick,more intricate eyeshadow/liner, or falsies.
Theater wear you've got to be crazy over the top, or it doesn't read on stage/camera. You're also cosplaying a character, so if you've got some exaggeration it just adds to that 2D-to-3D deal.

I noticed you brought your lower lashes out a bit to extend the look of your eye. Good. For your top lashes, you should focus more towards the outer corners. Maybe adding a second pair of demi lashes that goes out a little farther?

Are you wearing contacts here or plan to? I can't tell because of the picture quality. If you are, the shade of blue is just too dark. If you're not wearing contacts and actually just have brown eyes, then nevermind.

I maybe you should try putting on nude lipstick or even concealer on the edges. While your lips are full and beautiful, Satsuki has sort of a tight mouthed feel.

Not many anime series (pretty much only KLK, AoT, Cowboy Bebop and Stand Alone Complex), because I'm not a weeaboo but I watched The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Oz, The Wire and even pleb shows like Breaking Bad, Lost and Game of Thrones so your opinion is pretty much worthless compared to mine.

Of course, Ryuko is not exactly some stellar character compared to characters from shows that are meant to appeal to an intelligent audience. But as far as Kill la Kill goes, she is the best. She's the only one who gets actual character development. Retards from /a/ and /v/ bitch about her, calling her "edgemaster" / "edgy" and similar buzzwords, because they watch all the shitty anime shows with the shitty protagonists that they get shocked when she behaves like an actual human being with emotions (a 17 year old / teenage girl).

Compare that to their "beloved" Satsuki who is a legit terrible character. She has not changed at all from her beginnings and even though everything she's done has been demonstrably been for fuck-all, the show is still worshipping the ground she walks on. Like, fuck, if it had been as simple as "Satsuki is imprisoned and the Elite Four team up with NB to bust her out" it would be fine, but no, its specifically portrayed as "Satsuki gives the signal for the elite four to come pick her up after she busts herself out." Even when she's had dead to rights by Ryuko she still magically comes out on top. Like, yeah, she fucked herself over in the long run by targeting NB, but the show seems to be actively trying to ignore that fact. People bitch about Ryuko being static but there is literally not a single thing Satsuki has that wasn't handed to her on a silver fucking platter by the narrative.

You mean she built it up from all the resources she was given by her mom and all the abilities she was given by the writers.

Not that any of that matters whether a character is good or bad. Likability is also meaningless. A good character = flawed character (human beings are flawed) that goes through realistic character development and their personality is a reflection of their upbringing. Ryuko is nowhere near a one of a kind character, but the best shonen protagonist since Shinji, because she at least gets all those points checked. You have a genuine, valid explanation for all her actions - even if the actions include raging all the time, "losing her way" and whatnot that makes her unlikable to you. Yet the fact that you can track all of them to something that happened in her character's background also makes her the best written character -- of this show.

Satsuki? Flawless. Prepared for anything. No inner struggle, no monologues, she was born perfect and is always fearless and every time she loses she has to win just another way. She never "loses her way". Gets molested by her mother - shrugs it off. Locked in rape dungeon for a month? No change in her personality. She even saves herself, because, hell why should she use her chance to become human for once. Surely, these characteristics make her likable to many. But they are also the typical traits to look for when identifying bad writing.

That's all I have to say to that. Even this post was pointless because I'm probably gonna get called "fucking male scum" anyway, even if I don't have a penis.

Remember when she and Soroi are reminiscing about when they first met when she was five? She mentioned that she never told him she thought his tea was bitter for fear of hurting his feelings, because she was "such a kind-hearted girl back then" -- does that sound like Satsuki to you? It sounds like she was a happy, sweet girl at one point, but she's had to harden herself. She never betrays the pain of wearing Junketsu until it becomes physically unbearable, and even then only her very closest confidants know. It's not so much that she doesn't have inner turmoil, she's trained herself not to show it. I think we may get a taste of it later.

for anyone looking to make a nui wig, here's a pretty good tutorial.
instead of what this girl did though, i recommend more wefts than you think you'll need to make it look like actual hair (hers looks too glued down, imo) especially to connect the drill curls to the bases.
also for the love of god get the right color wefts, not yellow like this chick did.

Honestly you'd be better off making the foam base then draping two entire wigs off each foam form and giving them a curl at the bottom. Shellac-ing hair to a crazy form just offsets the color and looks ever more unnatural.

I was thinking of buying the cosplay online and then kind of improving on it from there? The shoulder and belt spikes look like complete shit on the premades. And then comes the issue of the headband.
