Need help on making a flower hair accessory, anons.
I've made flower barrettes before, but only with one flower (I just glued it to a hairclip and shoved a ribbon on).
I want to make a barrette with multiple flowers though, like pic related. How do I make it all stick together?
Sorry if my question isn't clear.

>> No.7478514

The best way to do it is to look up tutorials on how to do floral corsages. It's a very similar principal.

You'll probably need your flowers, floral wire and tape, ribbon, and possibly hot glue or craft/super glue.

they seem pretty easy to find on ebay if you search "straw boater hat." and there's a couple on aliexpress, not much variety though. if you order through taobao you could probably pick up all of the other necessary supplies along with the hats themselves.

aw thanks anon!
It was actually super easy to make, I'm sure you can make one too.

I just cut two pieces of heavy interfacing and quickly sewed them together to create a base, then glued some lace around it (just in case the edges peeked out from under the flowers).
Then I just glued a bunch of flowers on. I didn't make the ribbon though, but I'm sure it's not too hard tying a bow and sewing a little charm to it.

Just a heads up for anyone looking for nice flowers, since I've had trouble finding quality looking ones at my local craft stores - look for potted silk flower arrangements. I found one at my local tj maxx (for us Americans) with really nice flowers for a decent enough price. They're more expensive than what you can find at craft stores, but look miles better.

The sash was pretty ghetto because of time contraints but I'd like to make a proper one sometime. It was basically two pieces of ribbon on top of each other with a small stitch every 5cm to hold it together. I then glued a half pearl on top of each stitch to hide it.

I have so much organza ribbon lying around because I saw a few cute crafts with it and I was like "oh this will make my ribbons so light and airy!" and bought maybe 25 yards. Before I realised I hate working with organza. The feel against my fingers is worse to me than fingernails against a blackboard.

So that was stupid.

So it's sitting in a box and every time i go into the box it's like going through a box of snakes. And I did this to myself.

5cm organza ribbon. This is where I bought it from

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=15350115916

I've used a little bit of purple, but that's it, so you'll be getting three yards of everything except purple, which is a bit less

>green
>black
>navy
>red
>pink
>purple (less than three yards)
>champagne
>brown

So it comes to slightly less than 24 yards.

As you can see it didn't really cost me that much, especially when you consider that I bought maybe 120 yards of ribbon in that order, some of it velvet, grosgrain, and satin. So name your price.

If you're interested, my e-mail is up there. Just keep in mind that I'm in Europe so shipping might be a little pricy. But it's organza ribbon sooo maybe not. I honestly hate feeling organza, so I'm not touching it until you say yes, haha.

I'm not the person who made it, you'll need the actual measurements from them, but it's either just a long square of lace gathered in the middle to the desired length and then the top lace sewn over the gathering, or it's a strip that's curved around, then gathered, then the top sewn on. The flowers are either part of that flat crochet lace, or they are sewn/glued on. The ribbon is just sewn on underneath.

I bulk bought some ribbon off taobao and wanted to try my hand at making some hairbows. I can make about a pair an hour, and use mostly sewing with some hot glue and super glue. Do you ladies see a market with these, and how much do you think I should charge for them? I'm still practising some beginner's techniques right now, but I hope to make fancier bows in the future. They're cute but kind of ordinary (and I don't think the stripes go well as a bow) so if I were to even see them on sale for a cheap price like $3, I'd still think something like, "Well, I could probably get something like that for $1 instead on TB..." If you add some lace and charms you might get some sales. Hairbows are really saturated, I could throw a rock at tumblr and hit 10 girls opening up their brand new bow/decoshit shop. Usually the bows look like shit and are wonky as fuck
These I could see actually working but you NEED to add stuff to them. Bow shops like Royal Rabbit succeed because they actually offer something the average person can't whip up in an afternoon
Those striped bows are pretty wonky looking though, I would work on those. The blue & white ones are the nicest
My only tips are not to make them too long, chubbier bows = cuter. When I make bows, rather than just tie the middle part around and secure it, I first take a little piece of thread and wrap that around the middle and pull it tight and tie it. Then I pull and arrange the "bumps" in the middle so they are perfectly even and have a nice middle groove. They stay pretty secure this way. Then you wrap the middle ribbon around and secure it. It's worth the extra effort because you will get neater bows, if you just throw the middle ribbon around them without securing it first you usually get uneven indents.

That book is impossible to navigate. Measure the ribbon so it runs the length of the brim, and heat seal the ends (lightly run a lighter over them). Crease or iron the ribbon (low heat setting, test your ribbon first) along the middle to create a crease. Run hot glue or UHU glue along the top rim 5-8 cm at a time and press down the ribbon for a smooth cover. Then do the bottom. I'd recommend hiding the meeting edge by the flowers.

I can't see the taobao link, this is an image board so post the image. Usually ribbons on hats are really easy to remove (just secured with a stitch or two or a dollop of glue) so don't worry too much about removing it.

I loooove the little cute strawberries. have you ever considered making strawberry themed scarves and mittens, where the majority of them are red with dots, and the trim was green leaf? I would go crazy for that.....

I've seen Moon Bunny's stuff. I like them, but it's all just way too sweet for what I wear. I just wish I had needle felting stuff/knew how, because I think what I like most is how they do snouts.

>>7484555
Thanks. I'm not quite sure I understand what you're describing. In my head, it sounds like a white dotted red scarf a big leaf at each end, and I don't think that's right.

Wondering is anyone has tips on making an actual lolita dress? I have a draft of what I want it to look like and Im going to make the pattern soon, but I was wondering, is there anything i should keep in mind? (this isnt my first dress, just my first lolita dress.) Where do you suggest I get the fabric, lace, ect? I want this to be pretty good quality. I usually get my stuff from hobby shops or (dont judge pls) walmart. Also, I have a sewing machine, but I feel like I should get a serger. Is it absolutely neccesary, or is there something else I can do to get the same effect? Thanks!

It's pretty rough. It's mainly the seamlines and the decorations I'm going to do; it's a jsk, with lace and buttons on the bodice and pearls on the straps, and then some bows on the skirt (a bell shape), plus some lace and a nice ruffle trim. You know, average, I suppose, for sweet. I'm not sure if I want to do corset lacing in the back or a zipper; I'm terrible at zippers but I've never done corset lacing before. I'm also pretty blind on gathering the fabric of the skirt so it has room for a petti, I feel like such a newbie! gosh

>> No.7491875

>>7491851
Zipper, definitely. Corset lacing on an unshirred dress that's big enough to get on without a zipper will just create bulk. Look up tutorials, they aren't as hard as everyone pretends they are but they do require precision. Make sure the hem of your skirt is at least 2.5 yards total circumference or you won't get that sweet lolita poof.

This isn't quite DIY, but I am seriously considering altering my jellyfish OP into a JSK because the sleeves are pretty awkward and unflattering. The sleeves are serged to the armholes and don't interfere with the side zipper, so it should be a pretty doable alteration.

Could I get some opinions on whether this is a good idea or not? Pic related, some crap photoshop to show what I'm thinking of doing.

I'd buy bows that looked like the skinny velvet one on the left, or the other velvet one or one shaped like the big green one. Ones like the pink blue and stripe Id avoid simply coz every and anyone makes those and they scream cheap to me. Though at least yours aren't wonky.

Why not just try for a trade? Or sell and buy a rerelease, Krad claims to have fixed the shoulder issue in the second run. It looks strange and really impacts your resale value, so proceed carefully.

>>7492957
How much would you pay for them? Just to get a feel.

>> No.7492964

So what all purpose glue do you recommend to get for crafts?

Like for gluing ribbon and flowers and what not?

PVC seems too weak. If with hot glue gun, is there a difference between glue sticks or am I just shit at using it

As they are now, $5 a pair is the most which sucks for you putting an hours work into them. I'd feel a little better getting velvet bows from Taobao because I'm sure they do them quicker with special tools for mass manufacture and whatnot.
Sorry anon, just seems such a small thing like a little bow won't get you far. If you attached them to things like socks though I'm sure you'd be pulling more in, especially with velvet ribbon since satin ones and the like ring home too much with cheap eBay sexy lingerie

>> No.7493543

>>7492963
I got the OP because I like the much better than the super high-waisted jsk, but my wardrobe is really JSK and skirt focused. But this is the first I've heard about Krad fixing a "shoulder issue," do you have any more information about that by chance?

I did that to a lined, velvet OP which I hardly wore due to the strap-sleeve-things looking weird on me. I'd say do it if you think it'll mean you wear it and you like it otherwise

Jellyfish alteration anon here, thanks for the input! I decided to go for it and I already like it so much better.

I still need to rework the finishing inside and decide if I want to do anything more fancy to the straps, but I tried it on quickly and I'm really happy with how it looks.

>> No.7494425

>>7494380
It looks good! I think you did well, anon. What else were you thinking of adding to the straps? A frill? I like them the way they are.

I wanted to alt an OP in a similar manner - but by taking the sleeves off completely and creating straps to make it longer. I got the OP because the bust is bigger, but OP or JSK all lolita dresses are too short on me. I don't care about resale value because I'm not one to resell, but hacking off the sleeves and turning them into straps eludes me as a novice.

I think I might just ask a dressmaker if it's possible to do, and throw money at the problem.

Jmagazinescans and some other online places have GLB and GosuRori scans with patterns. I did a meet like this last year and just went through the patterns for some simple ones to print out. I think I also went through Etsy and just saved anything I could figure out how to make from the picture.
Some really easy stuff I remember making:
silk flower brooches/barettes
ribbon roses
star clip knockoffs
simple clips made of fleece (just two pieces cut in a simple shape, blanket stitched around and stuffed)
shoe clips
bracelets and collars made of really nice quality wide lace (pic related)
I can go through what I have and do a bit of a general tutorial dump. Not sure what all I have here.

Not same anon but to do that (I think the term is ruched?) you make a piece in the right shape but longer than the actual item you're covering, then gather the edges to fit and attach. Maybe another anon has a good link for it, but its usually not that hard to do.

>> No.7494624

anyway I think this was a good idea since everyone and their dog's cousin has jellyfish now. It's a good way to make it more versatile and your coords stand out.

I like E6000 as a general craft glue. It doesn't set as fast as hot glue, but has a similar texture afterwards. Usually for flowers and ribbons though, I just sew them on. I usually save glue for reinforcing things.
