AP teaparty? Where's the info on this? I can't find anything on the mainpage nor the facebook. What can we expect from it? I've never been to one of these types of teaparties before.

This is going to be my first sakura-con. I used to go to fanime down in California, hoping this will be as fun. Also my cosplay isn't close to being done. sheeeeeettt.....

This will be my first Sakura-con as well as my first con out of state. I'm both excited and anxious. Not sure what to expect but I'm sure I'll have a good time. I'll probably only take my Quote cosplay from Cave Story.

I have literally no experience and no knowledge of tea parties. It's a bit embarrassing, honestly. What do you do there? Are there tables and chairs and you literally sit and have tea and cakes? Is it more of a presentation or fashion show?

I'd also like to know more about cgl-tier standards of what is acceptable to wear. Beyond the dresscode and realizing that a heavy amount of these people will not look good, what should one wear? Should you wear at least something from Angelic Pretty? Is offbrand a little sad? I know that wearing an AP replica to an AP tea party is pretty much the dumbest thing you could do, but that's the extent of that. Looking at Kawaii-Kon, it's actually prohibited in the dresscode.

Fashion show, meet and greet, and vendor's booth have all been confirmed with details for the former two coming soon (including casting calls for the fashion show). Tea party has not been confirmed by AP USA, but the rumor is that there'll be one.
As far as dress code, just look nice and don't wear a print replica. Most girls go all-out for these things, but there's no true standard. Like >>7440841 mentioned, it'll probably be a lot like KawaiiKon's tea party (which also means purchasing a ticket).

We're still in the colder parts of spring, the sun will fool you into thinking its going to be warm but it'll be neutral at best and chilly at worst. AFAIK the entire con is held within the convention center, so its just a matter of having a small jacket for outside adventures.

Hm, well for northwesterners it's typically sweater weather with a backup jacket for when it'll inevitably get cold. And then the next day you'd compensate for the cold and overheat when the sun comes out.
However, you're from Texas. When our summers get even close to 80 degrees, people start screaming and dying in the streets. And Texas gets much hotter than that, so I'd imagine you'd be okay with that temp.
So how cold does it get there? Our recent weather has been low forties through mid fifties.

I just found out I'm going. It just sort of happened. Now, normally I'm cool with that sort of thing, but I'm all sorts of unhappy since I won't have a cosplay. (All of mine are in a storage shed across the states waiting for the military to finish moving it.)

HUZZAH! I has idea. The people I'm going with are part of a grand cosplay for Tenchi Muyo. They literally have all the main cast but Ayeka and Sasami....except....Azaka and Kamidake!

I decided to pick Kamidake, since he's the chill one, and I sort of have an idea:

Three hoola hoops, connected with wire then attached to shoulderpads. Look ma, no hands! Then as a thick non see through fabric, felt. Hot as shit, I know, but I'm small enough inside that I will have air, and it's still early enough to be chilly out. The feet will be painted cans, and I can paint the wood relief and Juraian symbols on with either sharpie paint or fabric paint. I plain to velcro along the line at the front, for easy access to tables etc. And since it is fabric, it'll fit!

I've been deployed for a few years, so the idea might seem hairbrained and stupid. If there's anyone that can offer assistance or advice?

Sakura Con is so far from its days at the Seatac Hilton there probably isn't much of anything you can't wear anymore (it's an excuse for most people to dress up).

I've been to the last two Kumo balls, and last year's ball at Sak.
They're alright - guess it really depends on who you go with.
Depending who's in charge, and what dance / style is the general theme for that year, the playlist can be a bit of hit-or-miss. As in, you'll have a few good songs, but randomly one you can't really dance to pops up.

Worst one of the three I've been to was Kumo 2012's, where it randomly played rave music during the ball.

Good gods, the panel schedule is terrible this year. Not only did they cut back on the number of panel rooms so a lot of them got rejected (including my group's Touhou panel that'd been running for years and was a goddamn institution), but for some reason they put my friend's Im@s panel, Zapp's panel, and the Kancolle panel all at the same time, which means they're all getting screwed. But nooo, theyt had to make sure all the fuckin' yaoi panels made it in!

I finished my PAX cosplay in the last 2 days before. I'm such a procrastinator too. But this time I actually tried to start early, but I'm making 4 costumes instead of 1 so yeah... things add up.

So since our third panel got rejected (but we're hopefully going to be the first contacted if space opens up), I'm going to post this here.

We were planning on doing a third panel, an experimental one, where we play D&D with the audience, sort of. Here, I'll post the blurb we wrote up for the book.

We didn't get it for a panel, but we're still really wanting to do it. We're thinking we're going to look around the con for a good spot to do it at, then during our panels, announce to everyone who shows up when and where we're going to do it. We'll also announce on our facebook page ( Link in email field, fucking spam block :( ) when the time comes as well, for people who can't make it to the panel.

This is my guess, based on what I know...
They signed the contract pretty late (this I know for a fact) and catered events need lots of time and planning (this I know from experience). Put those two together, and it probably wasn't realistic to do something at the con. But having it offsite then means a much lower cap in attendance, because outside venues are going to have a lot less room, plus 50 people would probably overwhelm them.

I think it sucks (even though I did get a ticket), but it makes sense why they had to do it this way.

The convention center is huge. I've gone in the past without a badge. You just can't go to artist alley, vendor hall, photo ops, signature tables or any of the special events. There's also an entire section on the 3rd floor that is badge access only. Bug if all you want to do is walk around, eat some food and cosplay or check out other people's cosplays, you're fine.

Most of my hallway shots turn out just fine. You just have to kwtf you're doing.

Full-auto is full retard. Figure out where your shutter and aperture dial is, and how to change ISO, and go manual. It's not hard to look through the viewfinder and see what the camera is suggesting would be a good exposure and compensate.
