I'm going to be moving to LA (Burbank area) soon, but what is the comm like there? Is it worth joining? Do meetups happen frequently?

SoCal had a lot of sub-groups, but the "main" LA comm is moderately active. Large meets are usually hosted by Fairytale Boutique, but small meets happen all the time. The small meets are often arranged informally, though, so it's definitely worth going to some of the big ones in order to make friends and get to know people. Everyone is pretty chill, and a good number of the regulars are very well-dressed.

I'm quite proud to be in a really well dressed and really lovely community. I see pictures and secrets from some other ones sometimes and it just makes me sad tbh and I hope that none of the girls I know end up like that.

Yeah it's really nice, especially that the people who have been there longer are giving advice and being helpful and welcoming. It's good to feel that the members of the community you're a part of are walking around and won't be giving people the wrong idea of lolita. I feel like more people should put effort in to look good and learn about the fashion if they plan to wear it out because it's not only your own look you're creating, it's the reputation of your community and the way people perceive lolita fashion. Maybe we wouldn't get asked if we're in cosplay so often if there weren't so many people weebing over "cosplay lolita"


Well. I'm not even sure where that came from, but tl;dr - I love my comm and people should make an effort to be well dressed.

Our core group is pretty good but we have a bunch of newbie replica hoarders who are always whining about never having money for anything while they throw $100s on shitty looking replicas. They're shitting up our FB page and the mods will erase stuff about illegal counterfeits but other than that there's no reprieve.

I worked very hard to create a facebook banner for my state's comm.

I feel as though it really showcases our best assets and it took me a very, very long time. Thankfully, as there is a grand total of 3 Lolitas in the entire state, I don't think this will go unappreciated.

We're in the same comm I think. There are a lot of girls with celiacs in the group and that's why they're only doing gluten free at that one meet. They don't want to accidentally hurt someone. The pot luck in a few montha has both gluten free and regular foods, it's just the only the one meet they're doing that.

Does anyone else have issues getting members of your local community to actually go to meets? In my community people will only go when one specific girl hosts the meets, but since she moved almost an hour away meets keep getting further apart. which is completely understandable, it's a long way to travel when you don't have your full license yet. Despite her encouraging people to host meets and do stuff because she can't put things together as much anymore, people just won't go unless she's going. I put up an event to go to a cheesecake place, less than 5 people show up. a month or two later, she puts up an event to go to the same cheesecake place and twenty people show up. I've talked to her about it and she doesn't understand it either, and really has been actively encouraging people to go to events regardless of who hosts them.

Does anyone else have this issue?

As an admin, I've admitted that I go on there, and I actually advise new members that it can be a great resource, but if they are more sensitive I suggest they simply stay out of the negative threads. Angel here, I am sorry you feel this way. If you are a friend of mine on facebook, you can see that I try to make most of my PA's are positive.
Of course I am human and of course I have bad days, but by no means do i feel it makes me "shady". I try to be as polite to people as I can, and show the same amount of respect to everyone I come across.

Hey, can anyone tell me about the Barcelona comm, how receptive are they of visitors? I'm heading out there for Primavera Sound and Sónar, and after seen the thread about European lolis, I thought I could maybe get to know some of them.

Ugh, my tiny, local comm is TERRIBLE. They're all super cheap and try to make their own handmade lolita, but it all looks like shit. And when you try to give them concrit (as people have seen with one girl on the Closet of Frills and Lolita Mentoring Facebook groups), they don't listen and come up with excuses. There's one girl that is over the age of 20, but can't drive herself anywhere, so she's always whining that she can't go to meets or begging for rides. We don't live in a big city, we live in several cities across a portion of the state, so driving is kind of necessary. She also bought a replica and then freaked out AFTERWARD that we would all judge her and hate her. These girls are all such itas, it's terrible. The first meet I went to with them, one girl literally molested my purse when she realized it was real AP. Like literally, I'm not even exaggerating; ran her nasty hands all over it.

What comm in particular ?

Houston used to be fine. Then AM decided to become best friends with HLC. AM 2012 was the start and hen it all went downhill from there. We used to be pretty close, with little to no drama. No it's just insane. I used to be decently active but now not so much. It's just not worth it. I go to couple meet ups but I already know who to associate with.

I don't blame new girls for not actually going to things. But the whole 700+members really ticks me off for some reason.

Well, my first instinct is along the lines of >>7555417, make secrets about yourself. Preferably with knowledges only she would have. And make a couple of them in styles that look kinda different but not really. Also hit yourself hard, don't skirt around, don't call yourself a fatty-chan if you're not. If you think you have a big nose or whatever, rip the fuck outta yourself, it'll seem more realistic.
Another good thing is to go into the comments of said secrets and rip on yourself even more with ranting nonsense. That always makes the person look cray and hopefully your comm members will figure it's them.
It's also always good to sow the seeds of despair ahead of time.. casually mention to your other comm members something they did that's kind of shitty. It'll get in their head eventually that she's a backstabbing bitch, but this does take time.
If other members of the comm read cgl, you could try talking shit about them in a way that seems like it's obviously her.

Well it's not like it's about you. I think you're taking this too personally. It's not like dug through your tumblr, assessed your personality and coords and decided you weren't fit. More likely than not, there was just poor mod communication. Also, mod decisions don't necessarily have anything to do with the community at large. It's not like there was a vote, and there may even be some people in the comm sympathetic to your friend.

Things have changed with the mods. Read the last thread in the archives and you'll see what I mean.
People didnt like it that others were booted from the comm. There wasn't a lot of consultation with the mod action either, it just happened which I think was unfair.

Then at meets, reference the secrets (if dramu comes up) and laugh about how you clearly don't' have a sugardaddy buying you plastic surgery. Play it really coy and like the whole thing is just some petty vendetta. Privately, admit to people you have an idea who did it but don't want to say.
