New guide! In it we talk about complimenting eyeshadow colors according to your eye color as well as types of skin undertones. There's also a brief explanation about lipstick colors according to your skin's undertone, which will be covered more in depth in the next guide. The Google doc has been updated with stuff about body paint as well as new questions in the FAQ and a new section, check it out!

Alrighty then, I need to just de-stress over here and turn off the news before it makes me not want to leave my house on Friday. Fucking. Doing a facial mask calms me down and I have no idea what is so therapeutic about it, but it just is. I wish I could get into those makeup consultation ASMR videos, but every MUA has given me a bad look or they're so rough with those brushes against my face. Errsh.

Does anyone have their eye on any of the holiday gift sets from Sephora? I like the Fresh Sugar Ruby Romance, Lancome Best of Genifique Set, and Too Faced's Cause A Scandal gift set.

Reposting from the other thread so it will be seen when the other dies, in case anyone would like reviews for after I use anything.

Here are some samples I got from ordering Korean products off of Amazon. I used to have a Skin Food Black Raspberry Eye Cream, but I used it. Sorry for the shitty cell phone picture. The two papers are coupons for some online cosmetic market. I order from cosmetic love and package_go_fast, but I prefer the latter because they get my stuff to me in two weeks max (never the dates Amazon says, which are like a month) and they give me more samples than the other one does.

Sorry this isn't too related but I'm kind of nervous having to exchange my Naked 2 palette for a new one tomorrow at Sephora. I bought it about 6 months ago and haven't really used it all that much but I dropped it once while it was open so a couple of the tins came loose and won't stay in, plus the black completely disintegrated and fell out everywhere on the ground before I could save it. I don't have the receipt or the original box but if I remember correctly I can still exchange it for another new palette. I'm just worried that the people working there will think I'm trying to scam them or something or that I'm returning a palette that is almost all the way used up.

You could go for a warm pink and use brown in the outer corner of your eyes in form of gradient to warm it down even further and take away the gaudy effect. Blending out like your life depends on it would make you achieve a soft look.

If you want a more dramatic effect you could do pic related.

In general stick to warm shades and if you can apply a second shadow to give depth to your eyes.

Maybe something like this? I think that both looks would look better if you had a more natural finish on your lips. In the case of the brown/pink shadows because it'd add to the softness of the look. In the case of the pic in my last reply, because going for a bright color would take focus away from your eyes.

My lips are so tiny. It really sucks. I have really large eyes, and I feel like it makes my lips look even smaller. I've tried the technique of drawing juuuust above my lip line, but it either looks too obvious or not a noticeable difference.

Do I have any options other than collagen? Whenever I see girls who use make up to make their lips appear smaller I want to punch a wall.

>> No.7908591

Try a plumping gloss.
Don't use matte lipsticks as they'll make your lips look even less dimensional. Try a shiny gloss and an ombré lip look--a dark color dabbed right at the center and outwards a paler, more neutral color, with a clear gloss over it. This will help create an illusion of depth and size.

>> No.7908611

The quiz says I have neutral undertones, but I feel like I look horrible in any lipstick color I wear with the exception of one of my reds and one of my purples. Do I need a consultation, or is there a safer bet to figure out my undertones?

So I hope I am allowed to post this here.

I am making Ene's side face things out of thin craft foam. But the problem is how do I keep it stuck in my face.

I was thinking of using eyelash glue. But are there any other alternatives that won't rash up the skin in my face?

Started responding in the old thread by accident oops.

>>7901752
Not sure if you're still here or interested in making that foundation work for you, but I've been using MUFE HD for a few years. I use a flat foundation brush first to apply it and a "HD" stipple brush to blend it out. Stipple brushes are better for blending than application in my experience. Flat brushes lay it down well, and stipple brushes help get rid of any lines or uneven areas.

>>7905617
I think the first one is more bronze, warm-toned neutrals, and the second is more true neutrals that would look good on anyone. The third is very pink or "rosey" golds and browns, not a lot of proper neutrals in there.

>>7905627
The Naked Basics palettes with only matte shades are really nice. 4/6 shades are fairly light colours, and the matte finish gives a nice understated look that you can blend to be really subtle. I think Naked 2 and Naked Basics 2 would suit your cool undertones.

>>7905732
re: setting spray - Urban Decay's sprays are Skindinavia sprays so go for that. I use the all-nighter one for long makeup days. For pen liners, I've used Stila, NARS and Eyeko and liked all of them.

>>7905960
Bronzers aren't really necessary but I sometimes use a bit if I feel like I need a bit more colour in my face. If you're pale, go easy on it, especially in winter. In summer it's nice to add a bit of a "healthy glow."

>>7906005

NARS and Illamasqua seem to be obsessed with lewd blush names. Orgasm, Super Orgasm, Deep Throat, Sex Appeal, Sin, Seduction, Thrust, Beg, Hussy, Excite, Tweak, Allure, Lover, Tremble, etc.
Urban Decay is bad for it too. The Vice 3 palette has eyeshadows called Bondage and DTF.

Some of the mascaras have been nice. I've liked a few Caudalie products in their skincare samplers (like their makeup remover) but their moisturizer has a weird smell. I liked the Bare Minerals sampler too; their powder is nice. Bobby Brown's eye cream was awful for my sensitive skin though.

There are days where I really wish that Western cosmetics would actually like.. TRY when it comes to BB creams. I don't necessarily mind ordering from Amazon, but it does make me feel bad for girls who want to try BB cream and can never find their shade, yet are unaware of the Asian ones. I only trust Asian beauty for skin care and BB cream, because I honestly feel brands here to be superior for needs such as lipstick, powder, perfume, etc.

But, fuck, its just.. All of these Western BB creams I've tried seem as if they're made for these super niche skin tones I had no idea existed. They either make me look like I tried to cover up a sunburn or like I'm sick with jaundice.

Well... that makes sense. I haven't been happy with a single foundation I've purchased. All the workers at Ulta/Sephora/Nordstrom kept giving me yellow/warm toned bases because I'm asian. Even the lightest shade of the yellow colors made me look orange or sickly. I've also never worn makeup because I was also suggested coral/red colored lipsticks for the same reason. I just assumed I haven't found the right brand that suited my skintone.

I just wanted to drop a quick review: I recently bought some L'Oreal BB Skin Beautifier Redness Reducing cream.

I was hesitant because it is "self-adjusting" and I'd never tried one of those before, was it going to be some hokey thing and a waste of money?? I decided to jump and buy it because I have a rosacea, like many people, and have been questing for a product that actually neutralizes the red and doesn't cost me $50.

I have been using it for a couple of days and with the cream applied to my cheeks and chin + setting powder all over to even everything up, and day 1 it lasted my most of about 8hrs before it just started to fade. Day 2, with the addition of setting spray, everything stayed perfect until I wanted to wash my face after work [approx. wear time, 10 hours]. It would've lasted longer but as I teach at a middle school, I tend to want to detox immediately when I get home by washing my face, changing clothes, etc. Kids and schools can be so gross. Regardless:

Pros:
+ Does actually self adjust and neutralize red skin in a believable way [but see 2nd con]
+ The cream did not irritate my sensitive, dry skin.
+ Seems to last a while, which is good

Cons [really minor]:
- Formula is a lot more liquidy than expected and comes out of the tube quickly
- On me, it only looks natural on red areas. Cannot apply to entire face as indicated in the instructions. It looks too Jersey Shore orange on areas of my face that weren't red.

Overall: I think it generally does what I want it to and while I cannot use it all over my face, it's not a dealbreaker. I'm sure other people can wear it that way and love it. I don't think it would work quite as well on someone who is super fair-skinned since I've got light skin with gold undertones and had the issue with it looking orange on areas that weren't red... if you're much lighter than me, you might just completely look like you face planted hard into the bronzer.

Part Asian, have the same problem all of the time and stopped relying on those girls for anything. My veins in my wrist are mostly purple with some blue, and I look better in silver than gold.

I think I have cool undertones with a yellowish tone over it. I tan really quickly and burn really quickly. Is it common to have skin tones and undertones that don't seem to match?

>> No.7909645

>>7909637
Your skin's most likely cool with yellow undertones, which is actually really common.

People seem to think that cool skin means having pink undertones or neutral, but that's not always the case. In fact, pink undertones are relatively rare.
So, while it may seem like the skin tone and the undertones don't match, it's pretty common for this to happen.

>> No.7909667

^This.

Skin tone and undertones can often be a bitch to figure out when it comes to makeup. I'm cool skinned, but I have neither pink or yellow undertones. It took me years to figure out why I looked so "off" with certain shadow colors, foundations, and why even certain colors of clothing made me appear washed out; There was absolutely zero contrast and even though I was very fond of those light, baby pink lip colors, the reality of the situation was that they didn't suit me. The same happened when an MUA somehow got it into her head that dark brown lipstick would look good on me. I didn't look good, at all. I looked dead.

You're welcome~ Btw I got the matte Living Legend. It's a gorgeous dark plum that looks great with my warm yellow skintone, makes me look cool and pale, and is as dramatic as a black lipstick. You should try out as many at the counter as you want though.

So I'm pretty good at making a nice base for my skin, like the no-makeup makeup look. But when I try to add a little blush and bronzer for some contouring my face gets a lot darker overall. I think I'm a nc20 or 25? What am I doing wrong? I prefer to contour because my face looks really...wide in pictures if I don't. I don't think I'm using too much but contour does require blending out so idk. What am I doing wrong? Should I just skip on the blush so more of my natural skin color shows?

Used pic related this evening!
Unfortunately, it didn't work that well for me because the sebaceous filaments on my nose have just always been much deeper, which is why I use a charcoal based exfoliate once a week for only that area. However, if yours are closer to the surface than mine are, this will probably work better for you than it did for me.

There's a bit of an odd smell to this, which I am unable to place. It doesn't really bother me, but it may be a deal breaker for some people. It isn't painful to remove, but it's annoying trying to get along the sides of the nose where the nostrils are. That area, I feel, is better covered with a scrub/exfoliate of some sort because of how awkward it is. Wasn't able to pull anything because it just wouldn't stay stuck to that spot and only managed to pull one or two likely "fresh" (ew) buds of filament from the front region of my nose.

I feel as though I've used better, but this may be useful to people who don't have very deep filaments or blackheads.

>> No.7909823

Using witch hazel helps my pores shrink under makeup, but it lasts for about six hours. Too Faced's primer is excellent for that, too. Combined they're a wonderful team. >Is it all foundations or is that more of a coverage issue?
Has to do with both the quality of the foundation as well as the finish. Matte foundations may make your pores look bigger, it also depends if they're full coverage or not.

>As in, would sheer be less likely to cause that?
If by sheer you mean a more natural finish, then yes. This is why also BB creams are better for a natural finish.

I went shopping this week, with the guidance of this thread and one of those friend-who-works-at-Sephora coupon codes.

It hasn't all arrived yet or I'd take a photo, but I got Clinique CC cream & moisturizer (I've used that moisturizer for years but never tried CC cream before, I'll be using it instead of foundation), Origins Ginzing eye cream to help with my puffy/dark undereyes, Kat Von D eye primer (the UD one gives me flaky eyelids), UD eyeshadow and pencil in dark silver metallic (S&M and Uzi), UD pencil in white to try to do inner corner highlights (Yeyo, and Benefit creaseless cream shadow (Holy Smokes) and Clinique quickliner for eyes (Intense Plum) to try a "smoky eye for asian/hooded eyes" technique I found on youtube. Pretty much all those product choices were directly or indirectly influenced by cgl makeup threads. I've also got orders planned for Ecotools (I've been doing everything with one brush because I'm remedial), Nyx (lip colors in various formats) and Sugarpill (the Sparklebaby palette since I wear sweet lolita sometimes). I'm excited to try some new techniques!

It's easier to buy a new one imo.

A single sample pack of Missha's Perfect Cover BB cream, I've found, can be stretched over three applications. Perfect for a three-day convention, or just any general weekend getaway.

Hello, sensory issues anon here! I went to sephora today and got a pretty decent haul. The too faced chocolate bar palette worked really nicely for me. It's a little bit rough, but pigmented enough that I don't have to wear a lot of it so it works. Urban Decay reformulated their eyeshadows and they're about the same texture as too faced, and the chocolate palette was more cost effective and cute.

All in all, I bought
Marc Jacobs blush (it's lovely)
OCC lip tar (It's a bit too thick for me, but I impulse bought it to try out because the color was named yaoi. I imagine it's the color of an over manicured butthole)
Kat Von D everlasting love liquid lipstick (You need exfoliated lips for it)
Stila pen eyeliner (I found out the one I had before was a pencil)
Benefit's They're real mascara
Urban Decay all nighter spray
OCC anti feather lipliner
MUF birthday gift, a mini lipstick and mascara

Some shifty kiosk guy also talked me into buying a gel exfoliant that I actually really like. It left my skin very bright.

The sephora people were very kind and helpful to me and were willing to let me try products on my face. I think my favorite is the Marc Jacobs blush, the color is amazing and the feel of it is like it's barely there.

So, this was my eye serum. I don't have wrinkles, but I wanted it for dark circle reduction and was told by an associate that Philosophy was a great brand and that this would be good. I was using Clinique's All About Eyes cream, but all that does is moisturize the area and it doesn't actually get rid of circles. It just minimizes their appearance. For two weeks, I saw no change. During the third week, applying it to my under eye area caused a scalding, burning sensation and the area felt dried out yet didn't look it. There was no visible damage, but I wound up returning this half used and with no issues when I explained what had happened. Shiseido's White Lucent actually got rid of my dark circles.

Obviously, some people will have good experiences with retinoids, but I didn't.

Thank you! I'm waiting until Christmas to go to Sephora to buy all the makeup I need because it's kinda far from here, so I don't wanna go multiple times.
It really did irritate me because they took away the Too Faced booths from department stores in favor of Sephora, and Sephora's just starting to spread over here, so they made Too Faced kinda hard to get, which I also think influenced them not importing enough products from their collections. On one hand I'm glad because they stocked the NAKED palettes [which weren't available either], but it really did irritate me to have to wait a year for the Chocolate Bar to arrive to my country.

>mfw i'm kinda tempted to buy the chocolate bar palette now

I went into a Sephora today with friends, not really expecting to buy anything (I'm >>7909937 and I shouldn't be spending more on makeup) because I still need to get brushes and I want more (cheap) lip colors. After you guys talked so much about the chocolate palette I looked at it and now I want it. (Originally I thought it would be too brown, as I wear a lot of black, but the colors seem really useful.) Congratulated myself on not buying anything, and then my friends wanted to go to the Bare Escentuals store across the way... I got fascinated by a really pretty dark metallic purple, let one of the store MUAs use it to show me a smoky eye (I completely assed up trying that youtube one I like this morning) and bought more eyeshadow. I am hopeless.

Good evening, thanks for your question.~
I can only recommend the nose pack if you're someone who doesn't have very deep sebaceous filaments. Skin Food's Black Raspberry Eye Cream is for wrinkle care and while it does soften the entire area, I still prefer Mizon for their snail eye cream. Laniege's sleeping pack is better than TONYMOLY's, but oilier skin types may only be able to use it twice a week or else they could break out or get the form of acne which stems from overly hydrating your face. The broccoli toner had sort of a gross smell to it and I prefer using Thayer's witch hazel with rose as a toner, with the occasional switching out for Skin Food's peach toner. Lioele was too dark for me (most BB creams tend to be), but I already rely on Mizon for BB cream so it's not a big deal. Fair skinned with cool or neutral undertones may have issues with certain BB creams by Etude, Lioele, and even Missha. For some, however, Missha works. The Face Shop makes a good acne face wash that I like, but I tend to favor their chia seed sebum control.

Currently avoiding Skin Food's peach powder like the plague, because it caused a breakout and made my face look incredibly greasy. Also, while I have a dislike for Etude House, this actually made my face feel nice and I like the scent.

Sometimes random zits appear for no reason, but it could be caused by irritation on the skin, stress, diet, etc. So, what you could probably do is to simply wait until the zit goes away, or use a spot treatment:

I'm taking the liberty to post my pimple progress here. I know some people deal with pimples on their chins and I am one of them. Despite being The Body Shop's whore, one of their products fucked me over. Nutriganics Drops of Youth was really harsh on me and made me break out really bad on my chin. I have sensitive, combination dry skin, so it was terrible to say the least. The first picture is when my problem was starting, and the third is when it reached its peak.
After that I had to switch to Clinique again [I was on a budget so I had to stop buying from that brand, despite being the only one that didn't cause me any issues], and bought the anti-blemish solutions cream.
My dermatologist also prescribed me a gel containing erythromycin and tretinoin.
It peeled my skin off and it burned like shit but it was the price I had to pay to get rid of said pimples. I still use the toner and facial wash from Nutriganics as those do not cause me any issues, but yeah. The skin is still somewhat red and I still have some pimple marks left, but it's been a steady progress.

The first picture is dated August 13th and the last one was this morning.

Used to do with what? With my skin? Absolutely nothing. I was following a 3 step regime with the Aloe line from tbs, to control redness and flakiness on my skin. Even though the line is not designed to treat acne, it did help me to moisturize and get rid of redness as well as flakiness.

I've always had pimples on my chin with every period, so it was norma. Like I said, the Drops of Youth caused an adverse effect on my skin, because I overhydrated my skin. The dermatologist confirmed it. It was nothing else in my skincare routine since I kept using the same products for months before adding the Drops of Youth into it.

If you want to even go further back before Aloe, I was using Eucerin. Didn't control my acne, didn't moisturize my skin [it wouldn't even absorb], and it was what kept my skin dried out. I had to use Eucerin because I was broke and couldn't buy Clinique, which was what kept my skin under control before their change of formula in the one moisturizer I used from them.

She could have also added the glitter to it with another product. The only product which comes to mind which is shimmery bronzer is that Honey Bronze stuff from The Body Shop.

I have a physicians formula one, but there were only two colors offered and the lighter one is really dark and orangey on me. I guess I'll have to check out Too Faced and The Body Shop. Both are available at Ulta, right? I've been meaning to make a trip into civilization in order to try out some products before buying anything.

You'll need to go to an actual Body Shop location, because I think what Ulta carries for them highly varies store by store. At least, that's how it is in this area and for their website. Ulta, I've been told, does sell TF. If you can't find TF there, try Sephora or a Macy's.

Innisfree and NR haven't labelled their BB creams with #13, as far as I know.. That's just Missha. I've seen the former using 01, 02, etc. Do you know what the names were since they do have multiples? Or, maybe what you're looking for as far as benefits go with the BB cream?

Got two sample packets of this from Sephora..

I know that it's pricey, but I actually like how soft it makes the under eye area. It's also nice to have that area hydrated without risking milia popping up or feeling greasy. I don't have wrinkles, but I do like this better than I like Clinique's All About Eyes (the richer version, not regular). With AAE, I felt as if the cream was so thick that I'd need to be dragging that delicate skin. It was also a bitch to absorb, whereas this hasn't presented any issues for me.

Ugh, fuck. There are so many good eye creams that I've tried, but I don't have a need to own every single one simultaneously. Still using up the last of my Mizon.

Also, vaguely reminds me of the Naked palettes..

Does anyone here use a full-face colour-correcting primer? I've noticed that my face is a lot pinker than my neck. It's not particularly lighter or darker (I checked by making some pictures greyscale) but it's just really pink whereas my neck is yellow. I doubt it's rosacea since the texture of my skin is smooth and it's not irritated. I honestly think the skin on my face is just thinner so the blood vessels show through. Anyway it's weird and I'm considering getting a green-toned primer to correct it.

Kabuki brushes pick up a lot of product, you shouldn't use them to set foundation. You're probably transferring too much powder on your skin and it's making you look flat and cakey. Try a traditional powder brush and dust lightly to the areas you're oily only and leave the rest of your skin alone. A little highlighter on the top of the cheekbone and the center of the nose can help a lot too.

They generally have a trio of colours, pinky beige, natural beige and light/true beige. Pinky beige is occasionally labelled as 13 and some beauty bloggers have implied that it's the same shade (or there abouts) as missha's

I think in different lighting, it appears close to Missha's, but I still feel like Innisfree may be just a little bit darker than that. Missha always looks like it has this incredibly subtle, yellowish tint to it despite being for fair skin.

Why do you need a tutorial? Just foundation a shade or two lighter than your natural skin tone, red lipstick that suits your undertones, a neutral blush and big but natural looking lashes is all that it takes for Snow White IMO

I like to use my YSL Touche Eclat pen under my eyes and onto the the tops of my cheekbones if I'm just doing normal everyday makeup. The reflective pigments catch the light on my cheekbones and make them stand out more. If you don't want to shell out $41US try the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch, it does the same job and costs only $6 or $7.

If you want to try a more dramatic highlighter the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector is really nice and comes in a few shades. It's a liquid with a pump and it can be applied on top of foundation to add highlight or mixed into foundation to make it look more dewey.

Another anon suggested Watt's Up by Benefit which comes in a tube kind of like a glue stick. Last time I checked it only came in one color (kind of a light cadlelight gold). If that doesn't work with your skintone NARS makes a similar product called the NARS Multiple and it comes in a ton of shades so you might want to check that out too (both are sold at Sephora). I really like NARS' powder highlighters, I own two of them (Albatross-white/gold, and Devotee-white/pink) the shimmer is very finely milled and powder is easier to control imo.

The brown above her eyes looks like shadowing for an eyelid crease. A matte brown like MAC's Omega worked into your own crease would work for that. You could use a matte flesh color like MAC's Brulee for the lid.

I'm >>7918278 anon. I just went to Ulta for the first time and the associates were incredibly kind and helpful. I'm new to makeup, and the one girl just loaded me down with pretty much every free sample they had of stuff I was looking to buy. She also only approached us when we walked in to see what we were looking for, and then let us come to her to ask questions. I didn't feel pushed into buying anything at all. I'm definitely going back again sometime soon.

If you are a pale skinned bitch like I am, I'd totally recommend it. I'm going to buy it the next time I go back to Ulta. That and Benefit's push up eyeliner. I got a free sample and it's bulletproof, doesn't budge at all. The applicator is a huge pain in the ass, though.
Another recommendation for everyone is Bare Minerals stroke of light concealer. It's fucking amazing, doesn't crease at all.

DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR SAMPLES. Or to swatch everything in sight, then rub down your hand with rubbing alcohol and start again. Take your time and don't feel like you need to make a snap decision.
That's pretty much my advice, and no problem! Especially with products that are super expensive and will last a long time, ask if they have a sample to try out first. That way you're not wasting your money. Also, even if you go there with a certain product in mind, be open to trying something different. I thought I'd end up buying Benefit's Sun Beam, and ended up walking out with a limited edition product from Bare Minerals Vision of Light box set that included the prettiest shimmery gold highlighter in the entire store that I'd tried on a whim. I also ended up with a bunch of different products in the box that are great additions to my starter set, and I saved tons of money by investing in a $50 gift set instead of a $30 highlighter.
