Would you add small weeb touches to your wedding? Cosplay is out of the question but this couple did something a little more mature.

To be honest, I'd love to incorporate my weebyness to my wedding. But the example you used is tacky as fuck OP. The dress looks cheap, the staff is childish and the wig color doesn't suit her. It is possible to have elements of your hobby be it cosplay or Lolita and do it well, unfortunately the girl in the picture failed quite horribly.

It looks so cheap. That dress and hair combo are absolutely grotesque. I also hate it when bridezillas put their bridesmaids in absolutely ugly/boring dresses while making themselves the center of attention in the most tacky and obvious ways (did she really need a fucking scepter?) Why did she do senshi wands and then give them all the same dress and then have different hair? Ew. The flower girls are the only ones with cute dresses.
If I had a wedding, I would want to put my bridesmaids in dresses that would show their beauty. Assuming they're important people in my life, I couldn't bear to see them in anything less that wouldn't make them look amazing. Obviously, it still would be -my- day, but me looking beautiful next to my bridesmaids who look like peasants in comparison wouldn't sit right with me. It's downright shameful and self-centered.

As long as they had fun I guess none of it matters. But as an outsider, this is so poor and embarrassing.

...wat. The most expensive part of the wedding was the venue.
The cake looks cheap, the props look cheap, the menu is nothing fancy, and they made the dresses themselves or with the help of friends/relatives. I bet the next most expensive thing next to the venue was the materials for the wedding dress, the shoes, and the printing for the stationary.

While the dress and hair aren't the most flattering on her, I really love the idea and design. If she took the couple things she did literally like the wands, scepters, and cake toppers and interpreted them in a more mature wedding way like she did with a lot of the other inspirations she threw in, I think it could have been a 10/10. I hate a lot of themed geeky weddings because they make me cringe a lot more than they don't but I think she handled it quite well. Her dress looks like two different dresses sewn together. I wish there was more of a transition between the white and the pink. I also wish that she had either correctly matched her hair to the pink in the dress, or not tried to do an unusual color at all.

For the wedding itself, some elements are way too garish, such as the wands and the cake, but others are really neat. The art deco elements are a nice touch, and I like all of the star detailing.

Also the shoes are fugly and match nothing else in her theme.

To each their own. My bridesmaids would be wearing whatever I decide to put them in. I wouldn't make them wear something ugly, and I'd pick something that looks good one everyone, but I'd definitely, 100% have it way more toned down than my own dress. Much more simple.

I really liked her wedding, according to the blog post. There were definitely a few things that weren't quite on point, but it was ALMOST there. It'd be a good read for anyone who wants to do a more mature yet still weeby wedding. A spot to base yourself off of.
It did look really expensive though, despite most all of it being DIY. They also spent forever on the details (they did their own invitations, venu prep, not to mention the dress, etc)--I would have just upped and paid the difference to get someone professional to do it. Wouldn't want to waste so many hours of my own time.

But they seem very happy, good for them!

I personally would love to have subtle hints of Pokemon in my wedding. But the key points like dress, etc, would be traditional.

>> No.8004553

>>8004539
There are lots of subtle ways to incorporate it, from giving the bridesmaids matching gowns in the color ways for the scout they're representing, to something simple like a crescent moon tiara on the veil to even incorporating elements of Princess Serenity's white dress into the wedding dress. You could easily do your cake topper as, say, Artemis and Luna--it would look like cute cats to people who weren't familar.
There are sailor moon themed mix drinks you could add to your cocktail list. A tasteful cake would be accented in reds and golds and some blues and stick to a sort of crescent moon theme without going over board.
As for deco, lots of sheers with stars and moons incorporated in. To a grandparent it might look like you went for something of a heaven theme.
This is all just off the top of my head, mind you.

I'm not gonna lie, something like this totally crossed my mind when my fiancé proposed earlier in the year. Especially considering the fact that I've already made a princess serenity cosplay. My fear was that it would be something that I'd look back on in ten years and just be like "...what the shit was I thinking?" I think a sailor moon wedding would lend itself to really pretty designs if it weren't so literal like OP's example (nor as poorly done). The flower girl dresses are cute as shit but that's about it. You couldn't have paid me to make my own dress, in fear of it turning out something like that.

I am, however, sneaking references to musicals into the ceremony/reception. I'm walking down the aisle to "One hand, one heart" from west side story and throwing some quotes about love in random places through the venue. I'd still hardly count it as a theme though.

Game of thrones weddings have the potential to look really nice without being too campy, but...game of thrones. Weddings. Not a single wedding has turned out particularly happy in the series. Minus maybe dany/drogos and even then there were how many deaths? But nonetheless it seems as though it could translate really well into a fairytale/medieval-esque wedding without being too tacky (I.e. No fairy-bridesmaids)

I know one mainstream theme I am absolutely sick of though: country/shabby chic. If I have to go to one more wedding with burlap and mason jars I am going to lose my damn mind. I don't even try to go on Pinterest anymore.

But let me add one last thing so I don't feel like so much of a cunt. The bride and groom look happy. The bride seems really pleased and proud of herself and her friends for pulling it off. If that's the type of thing that you really enjoy and could never ever EVER see yourself growing out of, then go for it.

I'm not a fan of her wedding dress at all but other than that I really like the little details in everything. The brooches of her bridesmades light up and her scepter also lights up, there's a lot of pastels and soft colors and everything is insanely detailed without being gaudy.

She wrote up a long post on how the wedding went down along with everything made for the wedding (which was mostly everything minus food and flowers) along with how she made her dress.

Planning wedding for April and I am holding off adding anything nerdy. Why? I personally just dont know if I will still like it if in a couple years looking back and see too much power levels. I do admit that I did think of having a subtle weeby wedding someday, but that idea went out the window when a girl in our comm decided to have a "fantasy-themed" wedding this year in may where everyone can dress up in anything to attend. From the looks of it, they've sent an invitation to basically anyone who commented on her status (a majority of it being cosplayers so they'll more than likely cosplay to the wedding), and making it; I shit you not, a giant potluck to "save as much money as possible."

I'm just going to sit here and watch it be an absolute trainwreck where a whole bunch of cosplayers bring in nothing but shitty potato salads and devilled eggs.

None of my weeby interests are remotely elegant and are frankly pretty dang childish, so I don't think I could incorporate them into a wedding without cringing about it later. Plus my boyfriend's family can be kind of obnoxious about "quirky" things so I worry that they'd take it too far.
At this point I don't know if I even want a wedding. It sounds like way too much effort for something I probably wouldn't enjoy anyway (I've always hated parties and being the centre of attention) but my boyfriend actually really seems to want one. What's weird about this to me is that much of what she did with the decorating and venue theming and the flower girls are pretty nice, but then the bridesmaids, her dress, hair, and staffs are tacky as fuck. (Which is kind of depressing, because you can do a sophisticated Princess Serenity inspired wedding gown so easily. Naoko Takeuchi stole ruthlessly from actual high fashion.) With different outfits, hair, and either bouquets or classier bouquet substitutes, this would have been a weeb wedding done right.

I did not incorporate any weeb or pop culture stuff into my wedding because I knew in a few years I wouldn't care about whatever it was. It would just feel like it was awkward and dated in a way that isn't endearing. If there were something pop culture that had significance in my relationship, like we met on a Sailormoon fan site and bonded early on over it or whatever, I'd have done a cake topper or other small touch.

I got the a seperate link from tumblr, from the Bride's perspective instead:
http://www.defectivegeeks.com/2014/12/18/sailormoonwedding/

And in it she says that the dress she made was inspired by a Dior Venus dress, except she made some changes. The bridesmaid dressses were apparently selected to keep it classy and to flatter all the girls' figures, but then they handmade the cape and added those light-up brooches, which kinda took it backwards.

I guess you could either take it as the cosplayers didn't quite hit the mark on making good cosplays, or this is the reason why cosplayers should stick to cosplaying instead of character/dress design.

I gotta say, though, it looked like a lot of fun -- the bride was smiling in almost all of the photos, the bridesmaids looked pretty happy, and the photos from the photobooth showed the guests having lots of fun. A lot of her friends seemed to have stepped up to help out, too, so I'm guessing in ten years' time when she looks back, she'll probably see a lot of happy faces and a lot of support from friends, instead of "dated" and "awkward".

My knee jerk reaction even as a Homestuck is oh, fuck no. But even then there are ways to do it subtly enough no one could figure it out. Hear me out.

There are some really stunning piano mixes of the main themes in Homestuck- I used to work in a small boutique, and I had all of the piano album and some of the prettier, classic pieces playing in the background and people always asked where the music came from. The zodiac, if taken from the actual constellations, would be pretty easy to incorporate too, as table pieces (sort of like OP wedding did with the planets), and simple star patterns. Even the cake, it'd be kind of neat to do a sort of pale, faded out chessboard and sky pattern on different tiers, or the kids' different planetary themes. Light and Rain lends itself to be pretty.

It'd require a very restrained hand, and very careful color palette, but it could be done. 9 times out of 10 though it'd be a major clusterfuck of grey paint smeared on bridal dresses and veils glued to horns and bad, drawn on freckles.

I noticed this too. Attractive bride's will usually try to make their bridesmaids look their best. It echos their confidence and makes it a better party. Ugly bride's will choose the worst dresses so they can have a shot to look like the princess for once in their life, which they're entitled to. It just says a lot about their insecurities when everyone else is wearing extra layers to look more fat so the bride feels better about herself.

My sister had a Disney themed wedding this summer, her husband proposed to her at Disneyland in Cinderella's pumpkin carriage.

There were definite Disney elements but it did not dominate the wedding itself. Before the ceremony started there were a harpist and a flutist playing Disney songs as background music. The music during the the Father/Bride dance was You'll Be In My Heart by Phil Collins, the song from Tarzan. The wedding cake had a topper of Mickey and Miney Mouse in a teacup.

That was about it, she wore a conventional dress, the ceremony had a Hawaiian priest who was a friend of the groom's family, and the wedding invitations featured both family mons rather than anything Disney themed.

It would truly be the blunder of the century. I'm imagining all the guests dressed in cargo shorts and oversized dress shirts sporting fedoras and guy fawkes masks with the bride and groom clad in matching green and yotsuba A peach zentai suits. Moot presides over the couple and reads to the assembled group of shitposters and trolls entirely in greentext:

>dearly beloved
>implying we aren't gathered here today to join these two faggots in unholy matrimony

Guests of honour include Gaben, Ainsley Harriot, Zun, and Jason Alexander. The wedding reception is held at a hotel with a pool, which will be closed to the public for the duration of the party with a sign on the door reading "Pools closed due to Fail and Aids". Once the party is over and the new husband and wife depart, they are pelted with spaghetti by the guests and the man is exhorted to "stick it in her pooper, pics or it didn't happen". Gaben then eats the spaghetti straight off the ground and accidentally kills Jason Alexander when he trips and falls on his way to the bathroom. The after-party is crushed by angry /pol/tards who stab Moot to death while chanting "ZIONIST CUCK, DON'T CALL IT A GRAVE, ITS THE FUTURE YOU CHOOSE". The next morning news gets out the groom abandoned his bride in their wedding bed when he discovered she didn't have a dick, and eloped with /lgbt/ to live off in the wilderness.

Would recommend that you let random guests come in regular formal wear. My friend recently tried to have a 1920s themed wedding and most ppl showed up as flappers or gangsters. It was kinda awful and most ppl looked like they bought their outfits at party city. For a 1950s theme I would imagine ppl would just show up in poodle skirts because its a)Hard to find classy 1950s clothing and 2)Most normalfags auto think of the stereotypical image of whatever theme you pick and run with it. Hell... Elvis might show up. Finally, if you wanna do your wedding party all 1950s go for it and have masks for photos! But dont force your guests to wear them. It will just be uncomfortable.

Thanks for the tips! I'll really need to stress the formal. Definitely don't want people wearing poodle skirts... That being said we don't really have any costume stores in my country and 50s dresses are popular here so the couple of times I been to a 50s wedding they were pretty spot on.
The mask idea I had was something similar to what you mentioned. Having a photo booth with various Bioshock masks and for the wedding photos.

There's a couple of great venues I've found so far. One a bit out of our reach: a huge art deco ballroom and the other a bit small, a cafe in a arboretum that has an indoor koi pond and would look amazing with a lot of lanterns.
Most of all I'd just like a nice art deco cake and the dim atmosphere of bioshock.
