I agree. Why is it so fucking hard for people to do freckles or spots in a natural way? His eyes, nose, and lips are blended beautifully, but the freckles just look like a weird allergic reaction. It was obviously applied with a lot of skill by a knowledgeable person, so how did they miss the freckles?

in terms of skins tones, the middle section of your (ears, cheek nose) is a lot redder compared to the top half (forehead) and bottom (below the nose).

problem is that tumbr artist love to over exaggerate on that which is why they just do the bright red nose.
but sorry, im no artist. im sure theres a better terminology/explanation for it but thats basically the jist of it.

I don't understand this whole... thing. The point of most BJD faceup artists is to make the unrealistic blank slate doll into something humanlike, as realistic as possible. Blushing is laid down to give depth and natural darkness variations that human bodies already have.

Seeing these people smacking on the dark colors to areas where they are already darker than their base skin tone doesn't make them look like a doll; it just makes them look like they don't know how to apply makeup.

I pretty much agree. My understanding is that the appeal of those kind of dolls, is that they retain the typical large eyes and often impossibly angular features as seen in the asian ball jointed style, juxtaposed with the pigmentation that occurs naturally in humans. It can boarder on uncanny valley but that sort of aesthetic often appeals to admires of gothic and creepycute type stuff.

I think that say, dolly kei style make-up is a more appealing take on a similar idea/look but hey, I guess I'm not youngster on tumblr.

These paintings are obvious exaggerations to play on youth, make them appear more "innocent," etc. Any visual culture / history class would have taught you that. I'm the person you're replying to, and I have to say this actually bothers me too. As I said before, I'm not an art major, and I do not have an artistic bone in my body, unless you count being fairly decent on the piano. I'm doing a degree that would typically be considered "useful", though it's not STEM, and it bothers me that I'm sometimes seen as some mindless drone just because I never had any academic problems in school.
But I dunno, I'm friends with a lot of art majors and graduates, and they're just chill people who know they've picked a silly degree, and don't really need to be reminded of it. I've never met these whiny, entitled brats I hear so much about. I guess I must be lucky.

The vast majority is economically speaking wasting time studying art majors, the vast majority of people studying art will be unemployed or work something unrelated. And then there's the great number of people who just do art without any studies.
This has nothing to do with understanding art or not and that's exactly the kind of arrogant implication I mean. I understand art just fine, I love it. Yes there is
>don't use straight-on angles unless your face is very angled
> have a flat face (no sunken areas that cast strong shadows) that is oval shaped
>have large almond shaped eyes and/or fat pads around eye area that allow you to use eye tape to achieve a larger eye
>small nose that isn't quite flat nor wide

>basically just be Asian, since that's whom BJDs are modeled after

That dark eye makeup only benefits people who have fat pads around the eye area, making it protrude. I find that very high, straight across blush looks odd on western faces with sunken under eye areas. It depends on the face but if u try to fight your face's natural contours it may not look natural or even believable.

you mileage may vary etc etc.

A lot of the ppl in this thread have that squidward nose which throws the look off a bit, too.

Come on and ask me or any mechanic/lorry driver/plumber/carpenter what people think of their job, and especially how skilled they deem the women who do those jobs (hint: not very).
Everyone thinks of tradeswomen and men as blubbering retards who can barely speak their own language, and don't get me started how under appreciated these jobs are. Without them, you literally couldn't function, live as well as you do now or have your fancy dresses you order from Japan.

The difference is, some jobs are more necessary than others and that's a fact. You don't need 500 artists but you do need 500 plumbers. Yet both are unappreciated and you only ever hear the former complaining about how they don't get as many asspats as a CEO.
Everyone wants to do what they love but not everyone can. Nobody wants to be a clerk or empty the rubbish into a lorry every Wednesday, but everyone wants to be a famous fashion designer or artist and they start whinging about it when they see it isn't so simple. Well, you can't. It's as simple as that, best start living in the real world. Best you can hope for sometimes is getting a job you don't hate. Not all of us can be quirky bohemians or uppity gay men, and not all of us should.

No, the doll sculptors don't usually list who their inspiration is. However, there are sculptors/services that mold heads of celebrities. Some of them loosely do themed dolls from fairytales, or even Game of Thrones, but they don't really look like say, something from Disney or Emilia Clarke.

I think a philosophy degree is pretty useful if you know how to apply it.

I know a philosophy major who later went into medicine. He is an excellent communicator and actually does really well in oral exams as a result.

However a liberal arts education by itself was never intended to actually find a job. It was supposed to make you well rounded and better in things like critical thinking and analysis, but other than that, its original intention wasn't to find anybody a job.

Bio major here, seconding this. If you only get a BS or BA in Bio, you're going to be a lab technician unless you get very very lucky. At least where I live, to be actually employable as a biologist, you need a Ph.D.

That being said, if you play your cards right, you can make a lot of money. Although tbh that goes for any field, not just bio.

My advice? Start painting in food dye and pancake batter so when you got nothing but 50 canvases of unsold paintings you can still eat something.

I think there is a type of mascara that has two ends, one is this white stuff that you put on first (to elongate your lashes) and then the regular black/brown mascara to hide the colour and elongate even more.

I'm sorry i don't know that name of it. But what i do for coloured lashes i get a white face paint (like ben nye's clown white) coat flase lashes in it then coat the lashes in a powder/eyeshadow of the colour i need.

Most of it isn't really white mascara it's a mascara primer and it goes on white. Even cheapo brands like e.l.f. and hard candy have it. You can find some nice rprimers at sephora.

The only white mascara I found was Ben Nye's and so I'm sure other stage makeup brands have it.

And not to be an ass but I found this by literally googling white mascara...

Let's just say $36k a year, which is a budget of $3k a month. With rent, food, insurance, gas in a car, schooling, medical bills, children, phone/internet bills, etc. that's actually not all that much.
In my household, rent is 2k a month, not including any utilities, so that eats up a lot of budget just for rent alone.
