The shirt looks fine to me, but the pants in combo with the hair streaks make it generic punk look. And the cross. But I'm a jeans kinda person but that's just me.

I think it's when there's no "theme" to it and it looks like they just threw a bunch of shit together that doesn't match.

So, I have really bad eye problems, and I'm basically stuck with tumblr-tier hipster glasses for life, as my prescription needs large frames to work.

Currently, my frames are a light tan color, which looks fine in real life, but in photos, they still wind up looking like something a tumblr user would wear. What's worse in a photo? Tumblr glasses or lazy eye?

Not that anon but I have a really bad astigmatism, so my lenses are very thick and visibly curve. I can have (and in the past have had) glasses with small frames before but my optometrist recommended against it because my lenses stuck out beyond the frame edge as they were too thick. It looked stupid and the lens liked to pop out of the frame if handled too much, so since then I've stuck with big hipster douchebag frames or contact lenses.

Usually one can sense something sort of "off" about these outfits. It can be somewhat hard to pinpoint, because the quality of the pieces could be high-end. The model could be cute, groomed, and with impeccably-invisible makeup. But something is nonetheless missing, and the outfit feels disorganised.

Then you realize there is no theme.

It's ok to mix-and-match different items. But it helps if all those different items have something in common.

Also, if you're going to do multiple themes, you've got to make sure each are done perfectly, or otherwise they'll be unrecognizable. Don't take to many themes on at once, either, or else they may all be lost.

I remember a previous help thread where a poster said "I want to be a gypsy pirate steampunk lolita", and a bunch of anons shot her down. After her "b-but why?", the most coherent answer was "honey, nobody will know what you ARE. If you have to explain that outfit at a steampunk convention, you lose."

I have progressive lenses, and the way they're made leaves a large portion toward the sides of the lens unuseable. In order to have enough space to see, I need large glasses. My magnification ranges from +5.25 to +8.5, so even new high-tech "thin" lenses are still pretty thick.

When it's just a mash-up of things. Most J-fashion sub styles have a st of rules to follow and inspirations.
