Does anyone have a tried-and-true basic kigu pattern anywhere? Or any tips for making the 3D parts of a kigu? I really want to make myself a Lovely Horse Derpy-chan kigu and I took a commission for a friend as well, and while I'm sure I could draft one, I figured I would check with you lovely gulls first.

Here's a good basic tutorial!
I reccomend making your sleeves one piece though, just cut them on the fold. And I personally just make my hoods from two pieces, but that's a personal preference. Also line your hood.

As far as 3D parts be more specific. General tips would be to scale things down if you need to and make sure tails aren't too heavy because they'll drag and also pull the butt of your kigu down.

>> No.8183622

>>8183605
Thank you so so much! I can work with basic shapes like ears and tails, but I'm specifically stumped on Derpy-chan's head shape. I have no clue what to do with that at all.

I would also love to do a Toothless kigu, but for some reason that doesn't seem as difficult to me...even though I will probably screw up the tail completely and utterly.

>> No.8183684

>>8183622
please post a ref, but you're probably going to want to make a nose shape that overhangs on the hood.
Toothless doesn't have a lot of difficult shapes, he's just got a lot of details and would be pretty time consuming, probably not a beginner project.
Also what was the kigu your friend commissioned?Just curious!

We haven't worked out the details yet, she just contacted me wanting a kigu. She loves cats and bunnies, so perhaps it will be something like that?
I'm an experienced seamstress when it comes to apparel, so I'm not too stressed about the Toothless because, like you said, he's just a bunch of simple shapes.
Pic related was the only place I can find an actual picture of the original Derpy-chan kigu. It came up in another thread and anons told me to just make it since I couldn't source the original seller. Sorry that it's so small and isn't much help. Give me a minute and I'll mspaint a quick shape of the hood so you can tell me if I've got the right idea.

Discuss? Oh, Ok. These are not cute. No one I've seen in a Kigurumi has looked cute. They make you look like a retard. They make you look like a face in a sack. Not in a good way either. When you wear them in public you actually look like you are wearing pajamas. You also look like you are trying soooo hard to be edge queens. LOLSORANDOM tumblr tard style. Your look is comparable to those really annoying autistic cosplayers who wonder around your local mall. The ones that you try really, really hard to avoid.

TL:DR you actually look stupid, not cute. You look stupid in the lolsorandom tumblr tard, talk really loud in the food court for attention, cut my wrist when I was 13 so senpai would notice me kind of way.

Also as always here to help answer any construction questions!

>>8195914
If you're super clueless try finding the blue owl for cheap and use it to make a pattern? As far things going wrong... well honestly fleece is very forgiving, it doesn't fray and if you have to redo a seam or something it probably won't show it. Also the loose fitting shape of kigus means you don't have to worry about it fitting poorly, unless you majorly mess up. Just look at some tutorials, I posted one earlier in this thread.
Oh and if you're doing wings that are attached to the arms and the body make sure you give yourself enough fabric that you can raise your arms up.
If you've got more specific questions ask'm.

I just finished it!
I won't be able to get a picture on the egg white until this weekend, but at least you can see the buttons and bacon blanket I made.
Man, I need to figure out what to wear under this because most of my clothes are dark and show through.

Thanks! And yeah the eggs are made out of epoxy. You know how offended I was that egg buttons aren't a thing that already exist?

(Sorry I'm on my phone or I'd just respond in one post)
It is not lined. I'd like to, but wether or not I do it depends on progress on other costumes before this weekend. Now that I'm thinking of it maybe there's egg print fleece or jersey online.

Don't line it with fleece your face will roast. I always line with cotton, jersey could work too. Even yellow polka dots or stripes would be cute!

You even made the buttons? I seriously thought you had bought them since they look so good.

Noted! polka dots or stripes didn't even occur to me. I won't be able to go fabric hunting until after con, but for now at least it's meant to be viewed from the side.

Dang what a compliment. Thanks, it's good to know they at least pass the five foot rule.

Go to Ebay. They're as cheap as $12 there with free shipping.

I thought I was the only one who still liked Bub and Bob as mascots. Totally agree a kigu would be cute. I feel inspired to make some t shirts...

I also have a loft bed with about 25 plushies under it including a life sized wolf and Dulux (old english sheepdog) plush. The bed takes up like 90% my room though so I have to keep the remaining floor space open... But if you're looking for one search for 'loft bed'.

A magical thing called apoxie sculpt. I wasn't sure I could make buttons either until I saw my roommate using it for a sword hilt. I just made the egg first and let that dry and sculpted a loop on the back. Pretty solid too. None of them have broken and I've tossed the thing around and flopped on to my stomach. One of them gave me a bruise.
